Default 801MS3's GT3071r Project
Thought id document this since i have been taking pictures... First off big thanks to Mark from SU for the hookup, Driver311 for the porting help, and Lenny for answering questions and posting his turbo build thread.

Im using the ATP GT3071r as most of you know this IS an IWG setup. This is the newer "revised" version of the iwg, meaning it has a bit of porting and a larger flap.

Here are some pictures of the turbo BEFORE porting.

Looks good, hopefull that will be enough porting, if it isnt, then youll have to go ewg, cause you did all you can basicly=youll be fine.

Your car looks pure sex, so having a 3071 in there to back up the looks will be a good thing...Nice nice.

Anthony.......My steedspeed mani will be @ my doorstep next week, then I can slap turbo in and drive down to get tuned by Timmy...another 3071 ms3 will on the loose in the Pacific Northwest

Not looking forward to the install on this. after doing mine i wanted to die. good thing its all bolt up and not fabricating or welding or dealing with all the shit i had too deal with. im thinking we can do this in > 6 hours.

Not till next weekend.. Still need to pick up some coolant and hope that the random silicone hose pieces i have will work for the hot pipe to turbo. And crossing my fingers on the stock hard coolant line "bending" far enough to re-use.

Sorry to waste your time if you already are aware of this, but make sure to test fit the bend on the coolant line by screwing it into the turbo and hooking up the oil return line before you mount the turbo.

We didn't do this on my 2871 and trying to tighten the hard coolant line bolt and bend it while on the turbo was a super pita once mounted to the mani.

In for results of the 3071R with an IWG. If it's do-able with a little porting (aka no boost creep), I think this will end up being the setup I eventually go with, if I do indeed go big turbo.

Well, let's just say that'll be the bolt-on turbo I might go after. Driver311 has made 395 whp on a bolt-on 3071 IIRC, so I feel like one of those, if the IWG works out, would be almost exactly what I'm looking for in a turbo. Really streetable, only slight turbo lag, and minimal modification/fab work.

Hopefully you can come up soon and we can finish up your setup and throw it on the dyno. That way we have two cars similar setups on the same dyno to see how they compare. I really like your car bro. Went out and ripped the car around for a bit tonight.. MBC was all the way down car holds (13-14) pretty steady off iwg spring. So from the initial test drive it looks like the porting is working to control the boost in the lower psi range!

More updates as i turn up the boost and try out new maps and whatnot.



Also i forgot to take a picture but i did modify the stock coolant inlet line (the one you are supposed to "bend" bending didn't seem like it was going to work so i cut off all but about an inch of the straight after the banjo and picked up some high temp hose and ran that instead. I'll take some pictures of that also.

Yea the point of this thread was to encourage those like me who are (currently) not interested in a full ewg setup and want the simplicity of the IWG.
I really hope this setup works out and does what it's supposed to do and others can use the porting as a blue print to run a kick ass IWG direct bolt on setup..
Shit.. Driver311's car is all the motivation they need, but a little backup couldn't hurt.

I used the ATP 3071r with external waste gate housing it was a very simple install and with the dump pipe it sounds amazing...

Went out again tonight and gave it hell, went wot for the first time.. turned the boost up to 15-16, feels pretty good for being on a very mild tune and 15 psi. Took some logs that ill post up later. Also ill throw up pictures of my gnarly coupler setup.

Now for more tuning and more boost!

Not so far on 15psi..

Cp-e 2.25" to 2" reducer that came with FMIC


The turbo inducer is about 2 1/2" shorter than the ko4 so i am in need of a longer reducer.. however as far as i could find there aren't any longer than 3" (the one i already have from cp-e)
So i bought a 2.25" joiner and another 3" section of 2.25" silicone and 2 more t clamps..



All together it's a tiny bit long but it gets the job done.. I also drilled into the cp-e coupler for a boost source. Heres what this frankenCoupler looks like.

Cut the joiner? I have a 2" exhaust pipe that I roughed up with sand paper and the coupler hasn't slipped running 21psi.

I went through something similar w/ my cpe fmic. The couplers it comes w/ are ghetto and really thin. I was looking for longer than 3" and all I found was 2.25" x 12"... so I could make 3 4" ones. But I said the hell with it, and just ordered new, thicker ply ones from vortex (they're almost 2x as thick as the cpe ones). Your frankencoupler looks fine.. maybe trim it like Brian said.

nice austin.. u went BT.... i will be runnin a 3076r after i get back from this deployment... i need to start getting a build list together of all the odds and ends becuz will be running the tr10 custom FMIC so all my piping will be custom. might run the hotpipe under the motor if i can figure it out and not scrape it off on bumps lol... did u use stock mani? or stock mani position atleast? hit me up dude

Brief update..

Did some logs tonight.. Just want to say that if you are considering going IWG but are worried about creep/spike... DONT BE! This porting as far as i can tell completely fixes those issues. My boost is VERY stable right now no spike or creep at almost 17psi...
For those who care enough to open a csv file i have attached a 3rd and 4th gear log.

This is still on a pretty baseline tune.

cp-e pump... Driver311 and i have been messing with the tune.. planning on getting some more msf help to fine tune it.

Got it locked at about 18.5 tonight, saw 315 g/s. need to go down about a click to get to 18.. Ill post more logs if anyone wants to see them.
