Default Bnr s4 build

S4 is coming in soon and I want to know if I will be needing to fab a coolant line like for the s3? If anyone has and tips on installing the s4 I'm all for it. This is the first time I will be doing a project like this.

MS6 or MS3? Too many details left out. Are you referring to coolant feed or return?

I've got an S3, and there was no "fabbing" required at all.

I can't remember why because it's been a while, but when we installed my S3 it was widely suggested to use a 6AN braided hose for the coolant return back to the EGR so that's what we did. It required cutting it to size etc.

@fivefingerdeathpunch; the v2's came with a hard coolant inlet line so I didn't have to do that. The s4 probably comes with the hard line too.

How did the install go for you guys? I just started tearing everything out. I've been recording every step as I'm going along. I'll post a link as soon as the first part uploads.

I don't have a pic right now but anyone know what the nipple on top of the exhaust manifold is for? There isn't one on the stock one. Do I just screw out the nipple and put a cap?

Got my base map and everything looks solid. No boost creep like I had w/ the S3v2. It's slow as shit (spring pressure only) but I know once the tune progresses it'll be a blast.

Ugh. K04 started to show it's smoke recently. I'm liking all the good things I hear about the s3 and s4. All these recent threads are making it hard for me not to buy now

I got my first revision back from Justin and after cruzing on it for a few miles I felt a jerk and then her a ticking noise .I'm pretty sure I bent a rod. I hear it with slight throttle pulses and fell vibs in the clutch. Going to do a compression test soon.

Pop n drop from sp63? FJ Performance?
When I contemplated building my own engine it came to about 2500-3000 for parts and that does not include special tools needed for measuring and installing everything. So getting it built might be worth it if you have a good shop near you

Got a quote from an auto parts store for a reman w/3 year warranty for 3400 otd and 460 will be returned with core. 2940 after tax and core! The part # is Dffr. I think it is the same one edge sells. Anyone else have one of these? Haven't seen much reviews on these

Check the discussion about the pistons and head studs, everything else is pretty much a subjective choice.

How did this happen on a first revision of the tune?

There can be no connection between the tune and the timing of this problem, because:
1. the larger the turbo the harder is to get it to make significant boost down low where rod cracking and bending events can occur.
2. the first revisions of the tunes are usually conservative in therms of both boost and timing just to get a baseline and a feeling of where the engine and turbo are, what is the preload of the wastegate arm, wastegate spring, gas quality, piston crown contamination, intake valve contamination, leaks of all kinds, rattles and false knock, and so on.

So even if you jump on the throttle with both feet it's hard to do such damage, not to say only while cruising around.
So my guess is that the engine was wounded previously and it was just a matter of bad luck and bad timing that the wounded/previously cracked rod bent only now. Stock tune MS6s and CX7s are more prone to this than the FWDs.

It always hurts to hear that someone's engine is in a bad shape. I remember how I felt myself when I figured that I may have some cracked ringlands when the engine started consuming oil over night (like one quart every 300-400 miles).
However the situation is not that bad. Get yourself some good pistons, some rods, an engine rebuild kit + gaskets, a good meth kit and reward yourself with supercar acceleration in a totally uninteresting family saloon and make those rich kids with porsches jump out of a moving car thinking they are actually standing still.

Thanks guys, still don't know what route I'm going but I'm selling my wife's car and whatever I get from that will determine which way I'm going.

I don't think it was anything he did. Old engine kinda knew it would soon but didn't think this soon. Gives me an excuse know.

Default Bnr s4 build

Started the car today and let it warm up before I did the compression test and the knock sound was gone. Felt no vibes in the clutch and did a few high revs and it sounded nice. Then I did the compression test from driver side to passenger side.

Not good, was hoping for the best.
Sale pending on wife's car so hopefully soon
