Ebay turbo experiment

Yeah, I noticed the really weird discharge setup on that turbo and was wondering how you'd get around it. Standard t25/5-bolt would have been much easier, but oh well.

I think we're gonna be pleasantly surprised with how this thing does, haha. Hell, 375whp would be respectable for how cheap it is. I'm thinkin the spool is going to disappoint more than the power.

Butt dyno says ebay turbo is win. Turbo is laggier than the 5557 but thats to be expected with the 6mm larger compressor wheel and larger turbine a/r. Car feels slower in 3rd gear which is more than likely b/c I don't hit nearly as much boost in 3rd due to the extra lag+3rd being such a short gear but fourth gear is an entirely different story. The car feels like a runaway train when I hit 25+psi. Today i was headed to the liquor store and ran into a blue srt-4. He proceeded to tell me he had a 42r on his car and was making 500whp and asked if i wanted to run. I told him sure went outside and turned on my bottle warmer and went back into the liquor store and bought a bottle of wine. We lined up 3 times and i pulled him pretty good the first two when i sprayed. I let him take the hit on the last run without spraying and he kept a car on me. I doubt he has a 42r unless he's upgraded cause I've seen videos of his car racing.

I just got annoyed with some of the childish behavior on the forums and decided to take some of my information down. I figure its a priviledge for those that get to read about the results instead of having to go out and produce them. I'm good now so im going to continue posting information. Ok, well i figured out why the turbo was feeling laggy, I had a bolt back its way out in between the turbine housing and manifold , so i had a nice exhaust leak. I replaced it and no more lag issues. Judging how the kkr560 turbo has performed so far I would recommend it. Butt dyno says 400+whp. After, reading about the ebay turbos on more well established forums and checking it out when it came in I'm not too surprised its working.

Yeah, but I already have a 2871 sitting around...I personally would only buy a cheap turbo if I were broke and my current turbo died, haha. If this thing makes good power and is *reliable* then I would definitely buy one as a backup.

"If installed by a certified professional." I don't know about you, but I'm not having some shop monkey install my turbo and charge me $300 for it.

Since there aren't any compressor maps one thing that anyone should do is familiarize themselves with compressor inducer/exducer & turbine inducer/exducer sizes and how they relate to the HP rating/spool of a name brand turbo b/c they will give you a much more accurate estimate of what type of HP/spool to expect. For example, the ebay T67 only has a 58mm compressor wheel and a 54mm turbine wheel where as a precision t67 has a 67mm compressor wheel and a 68mm turbine wheel. The ebay t67 is probably only good for 500whp where as the precision 6768 can probably make 800+whp.

No, I'm going to hold off on the 6262. I was going to have precision swap my 5557 for a 6262 during the warranty process but since my turbo wasn't bad and since I didnt want to fork over $1400 I was just going to stay with the 5557. I only picked up the ebay turbo to feed my curiousity and determine for myself if they were pieces of shit or not b/c if you dig around on other forums people that have had first hand experience with them have generally had a good amount of success. Considering my car doesnt feel any slower than it was before, and there aren't any mechanical issues at the moment with the turbo I'm pleased. Ill get the logs up today.
