Default Maisonvi BT build

So because of my turbo looking like a freaking 5 alarm fire Ive decided to go BT. Figured I would start a “Build” thread.

I was going to go BNR S3 but decided against it because Bryan said they were 3 weeks out, and with the sale edge is having I can get a good deal on a 3071 and have all the head room I need without being on the crazy right of the compressor map. So hopefully edge finally gets back to me today so I can get this thing on order. If all goes to plan I will be installing on the weekend of the 13th.

Here is the parts I have or am getting for the build:
ATP GT3071R – Awaiting PO from edge
HTP 3.5” Intake – Already Have
4” – 3.5” Silicone Reducer – Awaiting PO from edge
Bosch 3 Bar Map – On order
PNP MAP connector – Hopefully I can get one in time, Mattjackson86 is currently out.
MAC 3 Port ECBS – Already have
ECBS Pigtail – On order
GFB 50/50 BPV – Already have
Freek Tune – need to talk to Justin about getting a base map set up.

Hopefully that is all I need. Anyone see anything Im missing?

If I can get the turbo quick enough from edge I hope to port it to prevent boost creep as I am running catless and a big intake. I really need to do it the weekend of the 13th too because I am busy for the next month so hopefully it all goes smooth.

well updates already. Things arent quite as smooth as I hoped.

No MAP cables till the 15th.

And since it tool a little longer than I had hoped to get my order placed with edge, looks like I might not even get the turbo in time either.

It is what it is I guess. Thinking maybe it wont happen till the first weekend in May now. Or I will just take a vacation day from work and get it done.

P.S. I have a BNIB PNP MAP connector in my BT parts pile. If you aren't able to get one by your install day you can have mine and get me back when yours finally arrives.

Thanks for the fix. Way to do all my work for me today.

And I may take you up on that cable offer if the turbo gets here next week. I will let you know. Thanks.

I think there's a PNP 3 bar with harness in the for sale thread. Its under "trimming the fat" I believe. Someone correct me if wrong.

I lied. Lol. I'll try to find it.

Ok quick update:

According to the shipping info the turbo should be here Thursday. With luck I will have time to port out the wastegate (anyone know if there is a how to on that around somewhere?)

The plan is for the wife and I to maybe dig into getting things apart on Friday, then really get going on installing Saturday. I will post up a time once I talk to the lady, but I’m thinking 10am on Saturday to get going on it. If you are interested in helping out, let me know and I will PM you my address.

I also got in the connector for my ECBS, as well as my 3 Bar MAP. @MattJackson86; rocks and is going to try and get me a PnP MAP cable in time as well.

Other things to go on if there is time: Hawk front pads and a home-made vacuum block to keep it all clean.

Last thing is to get ahold of @atvfreek; here and get a base map set up so I can drive to work on Monday. All in all it looks like this might actually happen. Here is hoping for no major snags in the install.

You'll need one for the exhaust manifold and one for the downpipe. Edge has the gaskets but you probably can get them cheaper from somewhere else.

I just switched out my DP and the gasket seemed fine, so I left it. I will have to look at the exhaust manifold one and see what that will set me back.

I know there's a DP gasket on eBay for $35. Probably the cheapest you'll find. I just sold one for $65

Working on getting things all in order. Turbo should be delivered today, hoping to pick up the necessary tools to port it tonight. I will post up some pics when I get a chance.

Looking at my pluming layout. Anyone who knows what they are doing want to check my little map here? Not 100% sure I have it right. Much appreciated.

If you do port the IWG, be very careful and take minimal out. Even the slightest bit of over porting and boost will be an absolute nightmare/impossible to tune. If I bought one, I probably wouldn't even touch the IWG port.

Really? I was under the impression that because of being catless and going to a 3.5" intake I would have major boost creep issues. You are the guy tuning it, so if you think I should leave it Im good with it. Plus its one less thing for me to eff up.

Atp does port it more now butttt it still creeps a little.

Once over, say 21 psi, the creep seems to go away on most.

Honestly unless your going to run lower than 17psi I wouldnt worry about porting it.

sent to you from me

Exactly this. The turbos that have been left alone from ATP, usually creep to about 21 (but so do some BNR setups). We will be running more than 21, so I would leave it as is. If it creeps to much, you can port it. But it's better to have to port it later, than to buy a new hotside later because of over porting.

Yeah, kinda. The car is still in pieces. Im actually pretty frustrated with the situation.

I should have known this wasn’t going to go smooth. It never does. A red flag should have been when I called edge to get pricing and everything on order after not hearing anything from an email after a day, and all I got was a message that said their voice mail was full.

I ordered the 4"-3.5" reducer and a T-bolt clamp for the turbo from edge. I got them last week Monday, and right away saw the the t-bolt clamps were all the wrong size. I contacted them and Alan got back me saying he accidently ordered the wrong ones and would ship me out new ones and a packing slip to send the old ones back. I was hoping to have them by the weekend, but they never arrived. Figured I can just use some hose clamps till I get them in.

Saturday comes around and once myself and Bryan finally got the turbo in, I find out they also sent me the wrong silicone coupler. They sent a 4”-3.5”. I emailed them, but they were at MNM, so I was pretty much screwed. I ran down to autozone and had them order one for me. (should be in today). I emailed them Monday asking about my coupler and where the T-bolt clamps were as well as sent them a PM on the forum. No response. I finally just called an hour ago and found out nothing got sent and they will put in the order now.

So now I have to send them back all the stuff they sent me, and my car has been down for 3 days more than I expected. Luckily I have been able to bum a ride to work off a buddy who I owe huge.

Everything is still torn apart and hopefully the wife and I can tackle it tonight if the coupler comes in and tack it together with hose clamps.

All in all I know edge is a beloved vendor on here, and their prices literary cannot be beat, and Im trying to be understanding as I know they were busy getting ready for MNM, but Im left really unimpressed with the service. I want to believe this is just a one-time fluke. Maybe I will be happy when my car is up and running and Im not being carted around by my buddies GTI. It is what it is I guess.

I would like to give a shout out to @Funkster777; for all the help. I could not have done it without you.

Other than the problems noted above, taking the K04 out was less problematic than expected. Several things have to be moved to make room but simple. Lost some coolant with the lines to the turbo. The GT3071 looks great. Three sets hands were needed several times. MAP was put in. It was great to get to help and so some work on a car (I miss that with mine down and since it is two states away, I cannot help with it much). Hopefully everything will get together tonight.
@maisonvi; Thanks for the opportunity to help.

It Runs!

Got it running just before midnight last night. Drove it to work this morning.

Havent really got on it at all yet, want to get 30 or so miles to get the fuel trims to settle. Hoepfully this week I will be able to get some good logs for @atvfreek;

Im so freaking excited, you all have no idea.

Also, dealing with @EdgeAutosport.com; has gotten better. I called up and talked with them and they have sorted everything out. Im thinking this was a one time misunderstanding and I appreciate that they are doing what they can to fix it.

I want to go BT but I can't decide which way to go. My pocket book says BNR S3 but my nut sack says GTX3071. Throw in my brain's input which says this is a DD so stop being an idiot and I am getting stressed out over nothing. Plus I am leaving for the UK in a couple weeks and who knows how much money I am going to waste over there.

do like I did and go in the middle. GT3071. With edge's sale till the end of the month, its only a couple hundred over the BNR if you sell your stock for a core to someone.
