DJ, looking good bro. Loving the work ur doing. Hope you get the numbers your hunting for after all that work. Dammit if it ain't custom, u ain't modding, right, haha.

Good work foreal.

On the alternator, I wouldn't much worry about it. Especially being as u still have the heat shield on it ..

I had to notch out my heat shield to make room for the rear manifold runner on the pass. Side due to having no room. So now my manifold runner sits like a 1/2" off the actual alternator. At least you still have the whole sheild. I've been running unsheilded since august of last year. And no issues at all with the alternator failing or voltage drops. Of course its ur choice if yu wanna wrap. But just leeting u know I haven't seen any issues on mine. And it creates a good amount of heat.


For your dump pipe...have your looked at those baffle tips you find on the muscle cars. The ones they put on to quiet the car down while cruising? Maybe look at one of those. I heard they don't hinder flow much. And being its just one tube..you may be able to get a bigger one and minimise restriction more. Just a thought.

Anyway, get up the stellar work. Looking forward to more updates.

I really don't think i'll have an issue meeting my power goals lol. Car feels great, and it's far from tuned right now. Hopefully have some dyno plots in a couple weeks

Also, i'm still diggin the ewg. Doesn't sound bad at all. I like it. If it does become annoying down the road, i'll def look into those. Thanks for the tip.

I got the cxracing 28"x8"x3.5", 2.5 inlet & outlet. Also bought piping for it, too. All I would need now is the bov flange.

I actually was gonna do that, but then i looked at it, and it's pretty damn close to the runner on the stock cold pipe. Still probably doable. You (we) will need some small 1" diameter aluminum piping also to stub out from the new cold pipe.

Also, this will have to wait til my new tig shows up... still hasn't shipped yet.. :-/

Na, not at all. Somewhere i posted some flow calcs, and i don't think a big intercooler affects shit. Lemme find them real quick:


Volumetric Flow Equation:
Volume of air (CFM) = (rpm X displacement cu in) / (1728 x 2)

calculated

for 3000 rpm
FLOW = 121.83 cfm
for 6000 rpm
FLOW = 244.7 cfm



Volume of the new fmic (roughly 24" x 12" x 3.5", and just assume its a fixed volume even though it's really mostly fins, but this is worst case scenario) = 2 x 1 x ~.3 = .6 cubic feet.

Volume of the new piping (2.5" piping, and assume 10 feet for giggles) = pi * ~0.2ft^2 * 10ft = 1.363 cubic feet.

So in total my whole charged piping = ~2 cubic feet. (and lets assume my last fmic was maybe half that even though it was prob a lot more than half), so i just added 1 cubic foot total.

Lets look at 3000rpm, typical spool range, we know our motor is displacing 121.83cfm, which is 2.01cf per second... and at an absolute worst case, i added 1 more cubic foot of volume. That means my lag just increased by 500ms. i think i can live with that hahaha.


so yeah, basically my 0.82 a/r hotside is affecting spool more than anything, and even that spools by 3500 in 4th from a 3k floor. And if i jus learn how to brake boost, i'll be money IMO. This really isn't much different than my last setup.

Looks like an awesome project, can't wait to see/hear more.

On a sidenote: The valve cover painted black like that looks 148,915x better than stock. For some reason the stock valve cover color just bugs me when the TMIC is removed.

Build is still in progress, but my machinist has been swamped with boat motors (that's his bread and butter). So my impatient ass decided to fit everything on the stock block and run it through some hoops. I'd like to see how strong it is with a good tune, and zero detonation. And down the road i'll swap. But it's definitely good to know i have a fully forged spare just waiting in case things do happen lol.
