Default Since everything else is bigger in Texas...

I initially was going to do a 3071 build in January. But after some motivation and tons of advice from @I Love Brownies and after deciding that I wasn't using enough of my credit card limit, I "invested" in an ATP3076 from StreetUnit. I'm still keeping the stock exmani and boost solenoid, for now, mostly bc of money. I'll probably get a grimmspeed bcs later on but all this talk of how "bolt-on" these turbos really are made me want to do it.

So the hotside of the turbo wouldn't be bottlenecked on both sides, I purchased a Full 3" TBE from CNT Racing. And to help address underhood temps, since its been hitting the 100s the past couple months here, I bought a turbo blanket and am going to heat wrap the DP.

The NATOR Houston install meet will take place this Friday.

DP, Catback and Turbo came in last Friday. BT inlet came Monday.

IMAG0515.jpg

IMAG0516.jpg

And yet another stock vs. BT size comparison pic
I didnt even take the plastic off until today

IMAG0512.jpg

I'll prep Thursday night by removing everything so I can get to the mani/turbo/dp and also soak everything in PB Blaster. And hopefully I'll get enough sleep so I can start around 9am and get done by the end of the day.

Looking forward to fucking up the install... err, I mean, helping with the install.

You did get blinker fluid, right? While we're doing the install might as well replace your muffler belt too.

Yeah i was never too fond of that flex joint on it, especially after seeing it in person. But I liked the sound I heard in @AJ713's videos, plus its also the cheapest 3" full TBE with a cat.

Actually, when installed that joint does not flex much. It actually absorbs erroneous sounds and vibrations. What I mentioned was the actual flanges and how they line up between the midpipe and DP

I may be retarded, but how can it be installed backwards?

Yeah, I'm very confused as well on that. The flapper arm can only be mounted in the exhaust housing...so if the WGA were actually backwards, it would be so painfully obvious that I would be sad if someone missed it.

the actual flapper arm was put on backwards, it was hitting against the turbine housing and wouldnt allow the flapper to close fully.

So me and @I Love Brownies had to take the flapper arm off, switch it around and put it back together. It was so far stuck open i could stick my finger in the flapper.

Eric might still have a pic of it he can post.

Nobody checked the actuall flapper when we first installed it and it was missed, so we got it fully together and only could build 12 lbs of boost by redline! haha

shit felt like a civic si.

^^ That sucks!!

I'm pretty sure mine is on right as the flapper is closed and the flapper arm isn't touching anything.

Thanks for the heads up. Mine closes all the fortunately and nothing impedes its range of motion.

I'll have to make sure the turbo blanket doesn't get in the way either.

ATP sends the coolant in line and the oil return line. For the rest, the stock ones work fine. You will have to bend the stock coolant return line though to get it to fit right.

Muy excellente (as they say in North Mexico....err Texas)

Good to know. I'm thoroughly considering GTX3076R

I think a twinscroll GTX3076r would be rediculous (in a good way)! The more I've thought about it, the more I kinda wish I'd gone with the 76 so I could upgrade to twinscroll later. However, I don't need that much power for a while as I'm not going for any records so the 71 will suit me just fine (for now... lol).

Any exhaust housing that fits a 3076 will fit a 3071. That's why the first number is the same . The difference between the two is compressor. The ATP EWG housing fits on any 30 series turbo. Says so in the description. So you can go twin scroll if you want

I didn't think the turbines were identical between the 3071 and 3076. I think they're different trims, but yeah the housings are t3 which are interchangable.

Exhaust wheel trims are negligible. Compressor trim is what matters. A/R is what matters on the exhaust side.

For the record, if you go to www.turbobygarrett.com, you can see that the 3076 and 3071 have identical turbine wheel sizes and trims (60mm/84 trim)

We got three skinny, tall fans, but none that cause a breeze for more than a few feet in front of them lol

Man, everything was easy, except for installing the new turbo. Even the nut on one of the turbo studs that was rounded off from the factory, was easier than to deal with than the turbo install lol. There must be a particular way to put all the lines on that we did not follow lol. It made it a bitch to move around when we tried to bolt it up to the manifold.

But its on, going to finish up today after I pour some hydrogen peroxide all over the cuts on my hands. Just the dp and exhaust and then putting the intake and battery back in left.

Cuts on hands...gloves from Harbor Freight are $4, haha. I only take my gloves off if I need a lot of dexterity, then I put them back on.

Glad to hear the install went well, though. Gives me hope.

I'm a little apprehensive about altering this much shit on my car. But i felt this way when we did my fmic and its worked well so far.

Plus there was an episode on TV when i was trying to rest last night about how turbos were made. It was Turbonetics tho but I still see it as a good sign nonetheless lol. Off to finish the car

Holy fucking shit balls. Finally done...save for the CBE because i'll do that shit later.

What had us scratching our heads was an exhaust leak somewhere when we got everything buttoned up. We loosened up the DP nuts and retightened them and same thing with the 4 turbo nuts. Still heard the leak. Saw the turbo gasket was bent a little bit so we decided to loosen up the nuts a little bit to straighten it out with a screwdriver...nothing changed.

Finally, @lbn beers suggested we grab a mirror and look around it. Apparently, we failed on the install turbo bc no one noticed the washers sitting on the turbo, so there was a big gap all the way around bc the gasket was sitting on top of the washers. So we removed those and got it all together and it runs beautifully. Starts spooling around 3.5k. I stay out of boost putting around my neighborhood more easily now.

Gonna baby it a bit more until I get dialed in by DJ but pics will follow soon.
