Default Top Mounted Downunder Build

Hi guys finally decided to plunge into BT territory and create a thread.

Car is a True Red 06 3 MPS....one of the first models sold in Australia.

Bought this from a dealership with 43,000 km on the clock (26,000 miles) and have just clicked over 80,000 km.

Previous mods were HTP 3", HDI FMIC, Autotech HPFP, UR Test Pipe, Rear Muffler Delete, Cobb AP V3 with Stratified S-OTS+ tune, Denso ITV22s, JBR 88a RMM and BC Coilovers.

I've been tempted to go BT for a while now so decided one day to start ripping the bay apart and putting her in the garage

Started lurking the BT Build threads for inspiration....flirted with the idea of BNR S3 which led to a GTX3071. But after seeing @Justin@Freektune; work his magic with the PTE5858, i found what I feel will be a fun setup for a daily driver

Parts will be acquired over the next couple of months as its currently winter here so wont be able to tune for a while.

I've got my wifes CX5 to use in the meantime so I've been wrenching on the car after work when i cbf.

Stock Mani/turbo/DP are almost out...waiting for a friend to come round with an 02 socket and some other tools

Started a wire tuck while it's all apart...just need to solder a few wires and re-wrap in loom

Sold most engine mods except for Test Pipe, Plugs and HPFP and the current build list consists of:

JRD Top Mounted V-Band Mani
Precision 5858 0.82 a/r
Turbosmart Hypergate 45 EWG
Treadstone TR8
Kozmic Motorsports 4" Intake/K&N 4" Filter
JBR: EGR Delete, TR8 Brackets, 3 Port EBCS
Bosch 3 Bar + PnP Harness
Damond Motorsports Power Steering Cooler kit
Proflow Oil Feed/Drain Lines
Custom:
3" V-Band DP (add v-band flange to test pipe)
EWG Screamer
Undercar Intercooler Piping

Got in touch with Justin and discussed my goals/future plans for the car so will be getting Freektuned once everythings buttoned up

Will get a leak down/compression test before tuning to get an idea of the health of the block although I only plan on running a 98 tune for now and will be happy with anything over 350whp

Picked these parts with headroom in mind and will eventually add a JMF intake mani, SP63 Secondary Injection Kit and up the boost on an E85 mix.

Hopefully with Justin's tuning skills, a good flowing setup and low mileage block I won't have to rebuild anytime soon, but it will go forged eventually.

Leaning towards 17x9 RPF1s and 255s but leaving wheels/tyres til last.

Will update as parts arrive and I get shit done!

Oh and I'll donate....lol

Any links to the manifold supplier? A quick google search didn't help me much.

Is that manifold a custom piece or did you get it off a website?

Not much to update...did I half assed mock up because i was bored.

Got some alumium bends coming in the next week and will start doing the custom under-route IC piping!

Found out that my wife and I will be expecting our first child early next year and we've had a few issues with her business that need to be sorted so the rest of the build will be put on hold for a little while, but all thats left is to purchase the turbo and braided oil lines and fab up the DP/Screamer Pipe

Got the POS stock manifold off today and loosened the DP bolts....wasn't as bad of a task as I expected.

Received my JBR 3 Port EBCS and noticed the vac line fittings are different size to those on my EWG so decided I'll be getting new fittings and running -4 stainless braided lines.....probably overkill but a bit of engine bay bling never hurt anybody

A little confused on how to route the lines though.....

Or

have a 14psi spring and will be running about 21/22psi till aux fuelling is added to the mix so which would be the best option?

Go the second diagram which is three port. Your tune will need to match this.

Anything above K04 should run 3 port. I have just switched my K04 back in temporary and left the tune in 3 Port to control it too.

I am running the second diagram with an IWG with its second port blocked so nothing is VTA.

It looks like the EWG can be set up without an intake nipple in your second diagram. I am not familiar with that setup.

You probably need better advice on this from whoever will be tuning your car.

I use the first method you showed...Perrin explained it very well here (see External Wastegate version 2) :

I dont know why they call it 2-port on your diagram...its actually a 3-port setup!?

By the way, that mani looks pretty good

Any issues with running -10AN lines from this part of the VC to a vented can (crankcase ventilation) and welding up the stock breather? Will be mounted on drivers side (RHD) where my washer fluid tank used to be.

Check out this post OCC and crankcase pressure testing diaries

I think that is from his stock motor, not positive what he's doing on his current motor.

You could also do something similar to this as long as the manifold allows it. I put some 1200° F rated sleeves on the hoses.

@SarcasticOne; i'll let you know once its up and running! @Etipp98; RHD so our brake booster is right where you'd mount the can...otherwise thats how I'd mount it. I've actually found a smaller can that will mount infront of the battery so will be doing that instead.
Was looking to make my own HPFP cover but mounted my 3-Port there instead with the supplied bracket

Turbos finally in but not without a few issues as expected.

Compressor housing is practically touching the cowl so I'll have to modify the v-band flange on the mani to get a bit of clearance...most likely have a wedged shaped pipe welded in then thats sorted...

Looking at the alternator, there's no way a 3" dump can fit and the EWG is hitting the a/c line so short of buying a new manifold i'll have to deleted the a/c and relocate the alternator. Not too phased by this as I hardly use a/c and it'll be cheaper than getting a new manifold.

Is the fitment out of wack since it is fully custom mani, right or left hand drive the alternator sits in the same place (think the aircon does as well), i couldn't live without aircon lol, 865ms3 didn't seem to have any fitment issues with DP from reading his thread.

@shaneski; yeah fitment is a bit off because his jig was based on LHD. With the turbo clamped on its just hitting the windshield cowl and the EWG won't go on due to hitting the top aircon line.
Dropped off the mani yesterday to get the turbo flange moved a bit closer to the VC.

I've been speaking to another guy with one of his top-mount manifolds and he managed to get a DP made up....its tight as all shit though but should allow me to get away without relocating the alternator, but A/C is definitely going.
Also, 865ms3 has a stock location manifold and kozmic dp form what I can remember

If you are deleting the a/c then relocate the alternator. It will free up some space for an easier access to turbo lines later on. If you have some free time, you can also unbundle the harness, and separate out and shorten the wires that go to the relocated alternator, and you can route the crank sensor wire to go under the engine.

@Code Monkey; relocating the alt would make life a hell of a lot easier....saw the thread which mentioned the Mazda 5 alternator being used, however we never got that model in Australia so I'd have to source one from the US
