A friend of mine who happens to be an amazing welder (made my battery box and 4" intake for me). Just going to cut the Mazda flange off and throw on a vband flange. The turbo will sit stock location.

I have the .83 ar housing on my gtx3071, I would go with the .78 over the 1.01 or the 1.06 if you're trying to get the low end like you were saying. unless you have a higher rev limiter the .78 should do just fine IMO.

I love those friggin cars! The first car I had to my name was an 86 2+2! My best friend and I were going to convert it from an auto to a manual and swap the turbo parts, LSD, etc. But his idiot cousin helped one day with the timing belt, didn't tighten it right and kept cranking it. Had a valve break off from piston contact and actually became welded to the piston top. We ended up parting it out and got our money back though.

Fast forward a couple of years later...

My buddy still wanted one and in 2006 got an 84. He swapped the turbo rear end, cut up and made a Z32 TT engine with the 6spd fit, custom driveshaft made, and threw in the towel when it came down to wiring. I was kind of pissed at him about that one because of all the work and care he put into it, to then just give up at the end.

Good luck with it! I'd love to see some pics of it when you finish it, or at least get close to it!

Cars in their garage now... time for the waiting game... I don't like waiting, I impulse buy shit haha.

I will need a 44mm EWG, Tial MR-R seems the way to go, opinions? Doubt it matters too much. I ran a 14psi IWG spring, plan to do the same with the EWG.

Just got off the phone with them, manifold should be done in a week!!

Give or take a few days. It'll also be sent to be ceramic coated with my exhaust housing while I'm at it.

Are you running it water cooled? Also how are you plumbing the vacuum lines? Sorry for the questions, I just received my EWG and now waiting for my CPE manifold to be delivered.

Water cooled is not necessary from what I remember. Haven't thought about plumbing but there are some really good threads on here about it if you do some research.

Yeah, unless you're racing, where the wastegate sees a lot of opening and closing under high operating temperatures, from what I understand, the water cooling is unnecessary. just be sure all the plugs for the vacuum ports you're not using in the wastegate are tightened up properly. when Pablo from SP63 installed mine, they either weren't installed or not installed properly, so my wastegate wouldn't open since it was all leaking out. I'm glad I noticed it before anything bad happened..

If you do end up watercooling it, there are some options for using 8mmx1.0 banjo fittings, instead of the AN fittings it comes with.

I will be watercooling mine for sure, because why not. Little thread sealant if necessary.

Where is the water supplied from? Does it require a pump?

you can use the line that was hooked up to your throttlebody.

Good to know. I assume since the ewg will be hanging off the ewg, you'll need to use something that can withstand lots of heat as the feed/dump line.

As for the manifold, car is in the shop for the test fit. Hopefully it'll be done soon.

SP63 didn't install your EWG right either?
They hooked my boost line to the wrong port on my second engine, rolled into boost in 2nd and maxed out the 3.5 bar map right after break in.
Bye Bye rings.

I'm surprised they don't get shit on for all the crap that happened to my car, I'd be surprised if it wasn't a regular occurrence. One of the bolts that held on my passenger side brake caliper was missing too (scary because I had been tuning, so yeah 130+ mph logging runs). He said it was because they had some new kid working that had since been fired.

Sorry for the thread de-rail ><, had to rant.

Went in today to check on it and a few other manifolds are in front of mine, so it is pushed out another week or so. Luckily, I learned to remain calm when waiting when I built my block.. lol

Another update... manifold isn't looking too good... they are still working on a single EWG but are having design issues.

May have to go twin gates

as the dude above this post said there is noone that can rebuild this turbo, there are allot of really good shops here and they all said they cant do anything with it being ball bearing they are un rebuild able. And honestly for 500 vs the 700 i paid for a CHRA i would rather pay the 700 for a bran new one, I think my turbo died from oil contamination metal shavings in the oil, i have since been using an in line oil filter and it has def caught some shit i clean it on each oil change and it provides the oil orfice for restriction even though i drilled it out slightly as i felt it was too small.

another note its a complete utter waste of money to try and rebuild and then switch hot sides, its fucking expensive to buy chra and hot side, you should just outright buy a new turbo if you want to go twin scroll and take my word with a grain of salt but I have already been through this. my existing hot side inlet flange was warped and I ended up needing to have it machines flat and my mani machines flat to make it seal, if it was any worse buying a new turbo would have been much easier and better end solution.

but key point here is i would not trust a rebuild when you can get brand new CHRA for a little more.

EDIT: if you read my thrad about how my EWG died and the information I provide you will see there is absolutely no reason NOT to water cool the EQG especially where it is placed in our cars all the way in the back and in some cases like mine the EWG is under my manifold

As a matter of fact my EWG is exactly where he is holding his in the picture above which I would most DEF install the water lines. its just a few bucks in fitting and tubes, totally retarded not to do it with it being an option.

Said Thread: Water cooling Tial MVS 38mm

afaik I was the first person to use the water lines and post about it which is in result to my EWG failing and causing over boost

This is who I was referred to. I was told by locals that they have rebuilt many of their (still working) turbos. Now, what that entails I am not sure about, but feel free to call AGP turbo and discuss with them; I'm sure they'd love to talk to you. 480-983-6083

I originally thought my turbo seized up, but this ended up not being the case. I had built up carbon on the inside that eventually blocked the CHRA from rotating freely. AGP simply disassembled my turbo, soaked it in their 'solution', balanced and reassembled it. This only cost me $125. The turbo itself is only ~13k miles old.

another note its a complete utter waste of money to try and rebuild and then switch hot sides, its fucking expensive to buy chra and hot side, you should just outright buy a new turbo if you want to go twin scroll and take my word with a grain of salt but I have already been through this. my existing hot side inlet flange was warped and I ended up needing to have it machines flat and my mani machines flat to make it seal, if it was any worse buying a new turbo would have been much easier and better end solution.
A new turbo with a twinscroll hotside is ~$1000-$2000 (assuming) depending on how I wanted to proceed. I was moments away from buying a 6266 before AGP called and told me my turbos actually ok. Since they told me it was ok, I got with boostjunkyz and went forward with the manifold for $750. Sold my full race manifold for $775, so I made $25 on the deal technically. Hotside was ~$200. So at this point I'm out the price of the housing and the balance and reseal of the turbo. The way I see it, this is a great option for myself since I wanted twinscroll.

but key point here is i would not trust a rebuild when you can get brand new CHRA for a little more.
Point taken, and I absolutely agree, I never thought about this route, and most likely will do this when the turbo actually dies.

EDIT: if you read my thrad about how my EWG died and the information I provide you will see there is absolutely no reason NOT to water cool the EQG especially where it is placed in our cars all the way in the back and in some cases like mine the EWG is under my manifold

Thanks for the thread and info, I've been running the idea of water cooling, just need to go pick up my car so I can get the lines routed.
See my responses in the quote, thanks for the input.

Seems so!! I'll be going over there in about an hour to check it out in person and pick up my car. Should be welded up today then sent to be ceramic coated and back to me early next week.

Next steps is to remove the Mazda flange from my DP and weld in a vband. I also just received my 44mm flange for the custom dump tube we'll be making. Also finishing up the custom 4" intake.. after all of that is complete, I'll put her together and see how she runs. Hopefully all of that happens next weekend.

im glad your turbo was saveable but it just makes me curious how it can touch ANYTHING and survive even if its just carbon I guess it did not really hit anything ?

afaik even a drop of water will fuck comp wheel couch

mine had legit burnt bearings with like 12 mm shaft play and my wheel was fucked and touched the comp housing so i really needed a new CHRA. i was out that ngiht racing and had done allot of pulls and on the way home i tried to hit and no boost .... i was like WTF i just raced like 6 dudes and now no boost !@!@?!@? wtf

but yeah when i got intake off the wheel was FUCKED.

but yeah sorry for not reading entire thread I was just wanting to chime in on the concerns made previous and FWIW I paid 1060 out the door for my 3076 from Street unit when mark was still there and i am pretty certain I paid the cost on it so 700 for CHRA and 200 for hot side basically a new turbo from my perspective. but you got a good outcome here.

i just added pics to water cooling thread.
