I also like the red 3, but I REALLY hope that mule's hatchback isn't final... It looks like a major afterthought. It's so awkwardly shaped, but maybe that's just the photo.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the rake on the rear hatch or how long the hood seems to go on. I'll leave my final judgement until/if a Speed version is announced.

talked to my dsm recently about the new mazda 3. Here is what I can tell you so far.
No mazdaspeed version is going to be offered right away, they are going to want to wait and see how the new 3 sales first.

Mazda is pushing dealerships to empty there inventory or older 3's so the new 3 will be coming out sooner then we think, also mazda here soon is offering techs new product training here soon web based and instructor lead on several things and I think one of them will be the new 3.
From what I have heard the skyactive D will be offered in this car.

And lastly, he said the 3 looks nothing like the spy shots and or other images floating around the internet, but that it does look hot.

I hope you are right @motherfnmonsta; I am not really liking the spy shots out there, looks more like a CX-3. Bummer about the MS3 gen 3 but hopefully they decide not give up their market share of the hot hatch market.

They will never give up on mazdaspeed, but we never know we may see a new mazdaspeed 3 or even a mazdaspeed 6, but I know we will not see any of these in a awd format, cause of auto insurance would be stupid high and no one would be able to afford a mazdaspeed cause of insurance.

2.0 and 2.5 but Skyactiv models this time and spring a Mazdaspeed version out within a year.

I know there is a 2.5 skyactiv gas model so far, someone I know well was driving one of the camo cars and that is the engine it had installed.

I like the front, but I'm not a fan at the angle of the rear window. Its too steep and throws off the look IMHO.

The front is great, the back looks a bit mazda 6 wagonish. Either way I am wandering through the dealer to check one out in person.

I think the design is much like what happened between the Gen 1 and Gen 2, you like it or you hate it, not much middle ground.

I think the sedan rear is an improvement. I think the front end is nice. I hate the rake they have on the hatch though. Maybe it can be helped with a MS type spoiler to drag the lines back a bit but I'm not very hopeful from first look.
