Default AWD Axela/ Mazda 3 Info?

Just happened to come across this today:
yMAZDAz4WD SYSTEMbANZ

What do you think? We knew of/had heard about an AWD system possibly in Japan on the Axela (Mazda3), but so many people keep saying that is just a rumor. Looks like it isn't a rumor. If you browse around you will see it for the Mazda 2 (demio) also.

The prospect of a 4 wheel drive three makes me very excited. Even if its not a speed, a 4 wheel drive three would make one hell of a fun winter car

It's true, but people still seem to not believe it when we tell them, so I figured some photo evidence would help!

No we just ordered it. The rays engineering wheels are avail too. Those are stupid expensive. I priced a set out, for me they're over 4k. Eek.

On another note, there is a 14' 3 around in michigan with a set of mazdaspeed wheels (legit forged 5 spoke)

Only set I've ever seen in MI. Apparently he has the only set in mi, they are super rare. (Light gold with alum lip).

If you're interested in seeing what the kit looks like I think we pre loaded a 3 on the lot with one too. I can get some pics maybe (if it didn't sell).

Cool! It's not terribly new news though, as both the 1st and 2nd gen MZ3 were available with an AWD system in Japan.

I never knew the gen1, and 2 were awd. Why doesn't someone overnight parts from Japan?

If you search AWD speed3 on youtube, some UK company built a gen 1 and a gen 2 AWD system. It doesn't look imported

If there was an awd kit available it would be a hell of a lot of work I bet, and also very pricey. Possibly worth it if it worked properly

Because RWD sucks, is impractical, is not faster by any means or at least not as fast as a FWD or AWD on a compact chassis. It's good for drifting and that's about it.
A RWD car needs a lower center of gravity, a totally different weight distribution, and that's pretty hard to get in a compact cat. A longer chassis like a premium sedan or a roadster can achieve all these.

The second you think to hit the reply button and call me a moron think about this: why are there so few RWD cars in the rally championships and still so many FWD cars? And why the FWDs are faster there, sometimes faster than some of the heavier AWDs?
FWD with a proper alignment is no slower than the equivalent (in power/weight) than a RWD, and was faster than an AWD on any type of tarmac (we don't drive fast on gravel or ice where RWDs will suck even more, and AWDs will shine). The RWD/AWD have the launch advantage but once above like 30-40mph the 60/40 weight distribution in FWD cars means you actually have more weight on the traction wheels than a RWD.

The only true issue with this is that a FWD car will reach its limits in therms of power than can be put down to the ground sooner than a RWD or AWD. That's a limitation for the RWDs as well compared to AWD, and as we see more and more supercars move from RWD to AWD unless they have tons of aero sutff (like the P1, AgeraR/One, LaFerrari, and so on) and are designed to run fast only on smooth asphalt, not bumpy roads or in more complex conditions like the ones we encounter in the daily driving including snow driving.

So if it's not FWD then AWD is the only viable layout.

And if you're concerned about the future of the mazdaspeed3, well, it will have the 2.5T engine they will put first in the CX9, just how the MS3 and MS6 had the CX7 engine. Petrol turbo FTW! I'm not sure if moving to AWD is good or bad, but with AWD it will be a better all-round car. Not necessarily faster though, straight line or cornering on decent asphalt.
Ozynigma likes this.

I just hope they don't retard it down with a bunch of stability management.

My Brother's Golf R has that. He can literally WOT and shift without hands on the wheel and the thing corrects itself to go straight. = ghey

Why don't you sugar coat it? Haha

It made about 350awhp on the dyno too with a very expensive ethanol mix, port injection in a JMF mani and a GTX35.

The Genpu didn't live up to expectations and the motor blew after the IWG GTX35 was 'bodged' into an EWG setup.

The Genwon still isn't on the road, and has a twin charged setup up. I'm no expert, but a few people say the boost tubes are plumbed in wrong and the supercharger is the wrong type.
