Default BPV Failure

Just wanted to let others know about Corksports BPV and be cautious as the internal spring will fail. I contacted corksport regarding the spring failure and they will not cover the cost of replacement for this failure (the part just became 4 years old and out of warranty). If you read around regarding the BPV you'll see others have had failures too, so clearly it's a design or manufacturing flaw. Support said they would only be willing to sell me the spring, but that $10 spring now becomes $30 USD due to shipping to canada for a part that should never fail.

So those in Canada be warned and I'd recommend getting a different BPV that's more reliable and won't have a spring failure. Corksport has really slid in reliability and support. I had their coilovers and they failed, and now their BPV failed. Sad to see and I will probably avoid corksport now.

Edit:

Corksport called last night and said they will warranty the part. Thank you Corksport for doing the right thing.

The original spring did have a habit of breaking, but they've since changed manufacturer and may also now be using a stronger material (still wavespring design) for greater durability. luckily, when i realized mine had popped, i was able to get a new one shipped out free of charge. sucks you've got to eat the cost for that hefty Canuckistan shipping fee.

How can you tell it's fucked? I've had two CS BPVs, both Non-dual port, my old one sounded normal, my new (to me) one noticeably blows off longer, and sounds like it's winding down (sounds amazing to be honest). No flutter though. Is this a sign it's gone belly up? I'd rather it work properly than to sound cool, which is why I replaced my forge.

Best way to tell is to open it up and check. The recommended maintenance time is every 6 months, so during your maintenance of the valve you can inspect the spring.

Also, a little update, Corksport called last night and said they will warranty the part. Thank you Corksport for doing the right thing.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I ordered assembly grease, too, to service it while I have it apart. Hopefully everything goes well

Frankly, you should consider picking up someone's spare stock BPV. It is an elegant dual diaphragm design that works flawlessly, holds boost well to higher levels than the K04 can safely achieve, and is extremely reliable.

I've run the stock BPV with my mods below for almost ten years now, dynoing 300/300 and 13.2 at 107-108 with my fail 60 ft. 60-100 mph is 6.0 seconds, enough to get me into the 12s, if I could launch worth a shit.

I fuckin' agree. No need to bi a bpv until the stocker starts crapping out or your goals are high as giraffe pussy.

Unless you're not talking about the OP, wouldn't running a 3076 call for an upgraded BPV? I guess I was under the impression that the stock BPV was only good until ~23 psi. I only want clarification since I'm seriously looking into a BT this summer and I'm factoring in the cost of a new BPV.

Hmm, this is very interesting. I'm trying to set my car up to be capable of around 26 psi, dont know if I'm going to run that much but if a stock BOV will work that will save me some cash up front for a bit until I really want to upgrade.

BTW, what do you do to service the CS BOV? Just take apart and grease?

Personally I'd upgrade the OEM BPV for anything more than 22psi. Anything up to that OEM works the best (but you won't get that ricer sound).

I didn't see OP's upgraded much larger turbo. I can't speak to whether the stock BPV could hold boost up in the 20's at higher rpm. I know several here are tuning for the K04 with boost in the 22-24 psi range at lower rpm, but those tunes taper back to 16-18 psi range at redline.

My tune has boost peaking at about 19 psi under load in the 3,500-4,000 range with taper above that. Stock BPV is as tight as a nun's pussy at those levels. So, honestly don't know about how it would work with the bigger turbo. Should be able to pick up one cheap to nothing and try. Wouldn't really hurt to try.

I see now that Corksport is going to honor the warranty and replace the spring free of charge, so alternative solutions may be moot. Maybe they still hang out here and saw the commotion. That's good of them.

I wouldn't run stock on more than maybe 21psi (and that's still dependent on the unit, some just seem to work better than others), and definitely not on an upgraded turbo.

@LenSpeed6; to service the CS, just open it up and grease it. make sure that wavespring is still in one piece. don't overtorque the allenbolts on reassembly.

Here's what I discovered during the lube process. It was from the very end of the spring, no biggie. Rest is in 1 piece. It also blows off noticeably quicker and quieter, which is good.

Also the reason I went CS is because the piston opening is much larger than the original and I figured the more air it moves the better. The opening is gigantic compared to the Forge's, which is why I swapped that one out.

Just to clarify, OP was sent a new spring free of charge.

The stock BPV can hold boost pressure up to 23psi no problem. It's actually the fastest acting valve out of all the valves you can use.

Upgraded turbo's push a lot more air, so the minute you upgrade your turbo is when i would recommend upgrading your stock BPV.

Most people end up upgrading their stock BPV because they notice it starts leaking.
