Doubtful, we would have a $500-$800 product that would then cost about $300 to ship. The market for these is pretty small.

Here we go again. "No one is going to buy that stupid ricer hood scoop!" *CS sells 100 in under 48hrs*

And this will probably fit the regular 3, so the market should be huuuuge. I'll go ahead and say it so you can have great success again...

No one is going to buy that stupid ricer spoiler.

What about a replacement panel for the scoop that deletes the hole?
Or even just a fancy plug for the stocker?

You guys don't want to delete the hood scoop. It works in conjunction with the undertray to create a pressure differential and doing that would be detrimental to engine bay cooling without replacing the scoop with some source of top/front entry (ducting). If your goal is to create a grill on your valve cover, then go for it.

I want to find some one who knows CAD and get a prototype made. Anyone here wanna' help?

But you don't make one to fit the aesthetically superior genWIN? The paint on my spoiler is faded, despite (or perhaps because of?) frequent washing/waxing. Still glad I don't own a gay genpu.

So since this is made from fiber glass with cf wrap, inb4 it weighs more than stock plastic one. That was a little disappointing but makes the price point more understandable.

The paint is slowly falling off my hatch so I plan to get rid of it in a year or 2 and replace with carbon (because racecar and cheaper than repainting). I would buy one in a heartbeat if there was a wing for the gen 1. I would just make up some brackets to use the CF while getting rid of the stock wing

I just think it'd be something good for temporary scenarios like right now when I am forced to drive home from work in the rain.

Unless it's a solid FG piece I doubt it weighs more than the stock spoiler.

The genpu hood scoop increases under-hood pressures when the vehicle is at speed. It actually reduces the efficiency of the coolant radiator and a/c condenser by reducing the air velocity over the fins (thus reducing convective heat transfer) in favor of ducting air to the TMIC. For folks with a FMIC, the scoop does nothing except be rice (because it is now non-functional) and increase BAT's because your FMIC is dependent on the same airflow as the rad and condenser.

Trust me, I am and enga...engena....enkaner??....I'm good with math.

If the scoop were modified such that it became a hood extractor (like the evo's hood vent) it would greatly improve cooling and make a FMIC more effective.

Yes- it does create a high pressure zone up there and would in theory decrease flow down there. But now if there is no pressure differential up top, what is going to cause air to flow through the engine bay? If all of that hot air is trapped it will cause heat to soak from the back side whenever you stop or slow down, no?

The only way we would really know is if someone duct taped off their hood scoop and measured temperature in the engine bay while operating while also logging coolant, charge air, and oil (hah) temps. If someone wants to do this, I'd be curious to see the data.

If I still had my Pu, I would try it. We need someone to step up because I am now curious as well.

Most cars, ms3 included, evacuate air from the engine bay under the car. Generally it exits through the trans tunnel and below the firewall. I can definitely see where you are coming from with the heat soak behind the motor. A lot of hot air escapes the bay through the scoop when at a red light, but it should be good to go once rolling. Besides, the engine/turbo is liquid cooled and we are threadjacking.

Yay carbon spoiler!

I know this is thread jacking, but I'm going to pipe in. You are both right, but are both looking at it in two different ways.
1) "Hood Scoop Cooling/Venting" - The hood scoop (while driving) will duct cool air into the engine bay, basically flooding it because of the pressure differential between outside and inside of the engine bay. While sitting though, the hood scoop becomes a vent allowing the hot air to evacuate because hot air rises.
2) "How the cooling system works in conjunction with the engine bay" - The engine bay is essentially surrounded by the fenders, hood (ignore the hood scoop for now), under tray, and radiator. As the air travels under the car at whatever speed it induces a slight vacuum as it passes the rear of the under tray. In conjunction with this, the air running into the radiator creates a slightly higher pressure zone, called the stagnation area. Now put these two together and you have a pressure differential with the radiator being the dividing "wall". Flow doesn't just happen, it has to be induced by a pressure differential. With high pressure in front of the radiator and lower pressure inside the engine bay you get natural flow through the radiator. This is also why puller fans are far more efficient.

I do have oil and water temp guages on my car both on the cold side (by accident) so I could do this. Ill have to get some glue be gone and some duct tape.

on a side note, Not many cars have a hood scoop nor need one. The only reason why the pu has one is to increase air flow through the TMIC.

I just bought this CF wing and just FYI, it's only the outer wing that you're getting. You're not getting both the inner and outer wing in CF. That's why it says on their website only for the MS3 and not the mz3. What you're getting is exactly what is pictured up above in the first post.

I figured that out after reading the instructions a couple times. The inner wing is what they refer to as the third brake light housing. It sucks - if it were both I probably would have bought it already.

It's the carbon weave that's throwing the "smoothness" off in pictures. If I had a real camera it would actually capture how smooth it is. It's a great product from CS.
