Pre-load is from ride height I believe, I would be interested on what the lower section of the rear strut was rubbing against.

Well, there's not much to rub unless the damage is done at full wheel lock and the inner wheel is rubbing.

Derrick what time would you prefer me to call? If I can schedule it in my day that would work better.

Thanks.

I called 8:25 EST, I understand they won't be in for a few hours, I left a message.

Last time I called regarding the damaged rear shock I spoke with Austin and it was weeks before I believe it was Sandy called me back about a replacement. Needless to say I'm not holding my breath today.

This is getting ridiculous. After everything with Shitty Unreliable Retarded Engineering, now everyone wants to jump at every other company for every little thing that happens. NO! it's not the same thing people. The other companies, like Corksport, are some of our biggest aftermarket supporters, constantly working hard around the clock for US.

I couldn't agree more. These threads are getting more and more common, and even more rediculous (Note the last thread where the asshat installed his camber arms upside down, and bitched up a storm in JBR's section). In my opinion, these threads are simply an attempt to get free shit from the aftermarket companies that support our platform.

Okay, we don't need the butthurt vendor fan boy's coming in and clogging up an already congested thread..(I like CS too, we all know they are a good brand for MSpeeds, they don't need any defense right now)

The point has been made that Paul could have gone about this differently, BUT he is an annoyed customer who has the right to call out a vendor publicly (he gained this right by spending his money there)

Also, Paul is not the guy asking which headlight kit to install, he's a contributing member.

This thread, at this point needs to be about the resolution and whether there is installation error or a defect in the product.

That is all.

How much camber are you running on the front? Any end link with a larger-than-stock profile is going to limit your camber options.

Snuck away for a while to make a post.

I don't want free stuff, I want to drive my car at the track. That's it.

Keep in mind I bought TWO sets of coilovers to alternate through when these need revalving. This way I would have no down time and could track all season. That spare set is now on another car because he wanted to try them out before buying them.

I fully expected to abuse these coilovers and planned ahead. I initially wanted to change the spring rates which is why I asked about revalving from the beginning. To get these revolved locally I was looking at $1200+taxes on top of new springs I'm looking at $1700. So now one set of coilovers cost me around $1500. That's $3200 for a set of proper coilovers for the track. Keep in mind the second set would just need revalving so that's $2900. A grand total of $6100, which was still cheaper then running the AST 5300 plus I have a spare set.

I wanted to know Corksport's revalving options because if it was cheaper sending it them then I would do that, also I need to know what cartridge they are using so the shock shop can get the proper specific parts.

Now on top of there valving stuff because the springs block up under compression all that load is transfered straight to the wheel bearing and bushings. My AIM logger has me pulling 1.32G around some corners. The track I was last at has heavy loads on the driver side, that could be why I only had end link issues on one side. Also the wheel bearings were not designed for this type of loading and are now groaning on the highway. Those will another $500 to replace. On top of that I need a new end link and to fix the sheet metal and paint where the end link rubbed through.

I hope some of you now understand why this pisses me off. I accept your criticism that I should have called before making the post. The last time I called it was weeks before I heard back from Corksport. So being a Saturday night I was not waiting until Monday to let this be known.

During some measurements and calculations these springs have about 30mm of travel. I drive on the highway go over a dip in the road something not even it bad and the bang is so loud and harsh my rearview mirror moves so much I can. See my shifter in it. I emailed about this and heard nothing. Derrick posted in another thread the correct spring length was 6" that's still not enough travel. These were supposed to be track tested and made to hold up to the abuse I was going to put them through. At this point I would have been better off with Raceland coilovers.

For those that are upset at me for complaining about Corksport because they do proper engineering I have this to say. If that were true then my car would not be damaged and in this state of affairs. If Derrick tells me to "Go eat a bag of dicks" (he didn't say that) I won't be mad I will just move on to something else. What else can I really do? Being 3 time zone away in another country.

I am running max negative camber and maximum height to maintain the camber curve.

I am also using the Corksport end links. If there wasn't enough room the end link mounting tab should have been moved or there should have been something to tell me not to run at those ssettings after all. These were supposed to be tested.

Paul, I don't think they were designed to run at the ride height you have there just looks like too much pre-load. I understand what you are trying to do though, perhaps a longer stack height on the struts will allow you to run the ride height that you desire while allowing the strut to travel through its useful stroke. But as you mentioned what the Imoto guys are probably doing is running a different LCA geometry to attain the camber through the corners.

Steve there is no preloaded on the front springs. Those helper springs get fully blocked when the car is on the ground. A tender spring is what you are thinking of and that is something different. Helper springs are made to keep the main spring located if the wheel comes off of the ground, nothing more. Corksports says this spring was designed to absorb road bumps for ride quality this is simply not true. If you go look at yours they should look exactly the same with the car on the ground.

If the coilovers were not designed to be used as I have them setup why can I set them up like that. Its says right on the site ride height from -.8" through -2.5" if I can't run them that high why is the shock body threaded that high and why do they advertise it.

EDIT: I also informed Corksport upon purchase these these would be raced and heavily tracked. So they were fully aware of what I was planning to do with them. If there was something that I needed to know about their setting they had over 5 months to tell me.

Got ya Paul, I guess we'll have to wait till the west coast wakes up to get some answers. Got to snap a shot of mine as I don't believe the helper springs are fully compressed at static.

Also, Paul is not the guy asking which headlight kit to install, he's a contributing member.

This thread, at this point needs to be about the resolution and whether there is installation error or a defect in the product.

That is all.
I'm not being a butthurt vendor fanboy. I'm just saying it's getting ridiculous. No offense to Paul...but as has been said...instead of making a whole thread he could've just called Derrick first...it's making the vendor look bad when realistically the customer could've done more to reach out.

Your right, I could have done more.

They could have also done more for me as well.

Only right now one of us is out a few thousand dollars. If I was knowingly going to through away a few thousand dollars, I would rather have bought 2 random people BT kits from Edge.

For those interested, I just got off the phone with Derrick and we are going to do some investigative testing to see what exactly happened/is happening, to my car and the other 2.

I wanted to support Mazdaspeed vendors to be honest. I called RacoCo where Grant got his and was fully ready to order.

EDIT: I have ordered just about everything for my car from forum sponsors. Isn't that how we keep good parts coming in by supporting those that support us. Call JP and ask how much I have spent with him to date, you might be surprised.

Photos taken today,

Please constructive comments only. If I hear anything about spring preload, please read a book on suspension design. The spring is held in place by the swaybar pressing against the control arm. I tried short end-links they didn't help. When the car is resting on the road with all 4 tires on the helper spring looks exactly the same. I contacted Brydon about the end-links not fitting at first and he said I did it wrong so I went back and made them fit as well as removed all the preload on the swaybar with the chassis at static height. I also have full swaybar travel. You can see on the passenger side which is the side that makes the most of the noise that the spring gets fully compressed you can see the marks on the spring from this happening. The driver-side end-link rubs the chassis while the passenger side end link rubs the brake line.

but srsly, what the fuck is with that endlink. are the two front struts a mirror of eachother? I wonder if the one that is rubbing has the endlink ear welded in the wrong spot?

Well for those that thought I was being over dramatic, help me figure this out.

I think both mounting tabs for the end-links are in bad positions.

Then again, after taking EVERYTHING apart today. I'm not surprised, seeing as how they are made by BC. Know wonder they didn't want to tell me what cartridge was inside. Since I can't get parts for BC's I guess I can give up on re-valving them for higher spring rates.

It's been the end of the first day, I called Derrick and sent him the photos that I posted here. So now we wait . . . . . . . I'm expecting to hear back from them in July as per their track record.

EDIT: I checked my email history, I email Brydon May 8th regarding issues with the coilovers. We are now in June, and I have heard nothing back regarding it.

not sure if you want this resolved or just want to bitch.

Both, regardless of the outcome my car is still damaged and a safety concern at this point.

I honestly don't really want to run a replacement. Would you want to given the track record of these on my car? I've had four issues with these coilovers already. I don't want to bother making it 5.

The guys said call, I called, I doubt it will get the ball rolling any faster.

I emailed before and let it go. Hey if a girl leads you on and gives you blue balls do you keep calling her back, or do you just move on and call her a bitch to your friends?

I would never sell the coilovers liike this. I would fix the driving issues with them and sell it to someone knowing they are safe, and perform properly. I don't want anyone to go through what we have.

Well, not that I think Paul wanted it to get to this point..It hopefully has lit a fire under their asses. Because regardless of whatever the issue is..there is a major failure to communication hete. Not even a 'sorry' we're tied up email' Just nothing from a vendor who's customer service is supposed to shine.

I'm not bashing Corksport but people put them in the limelight and act like they can't do wrong. Well, something here is wrong.

Again, I like corksport but I think some major time needs to be spent on Paul's case- immediately.
