A question that I as a (very small scale mind you) tuner have also asked on a few occasions and has not yet been answered...
Yes, you should scale for the MAF and our maps will come scaled for our intake. I would also say that on an individual basis, you would be best served having Lex make a custom tune for you, especially if you have other/different parts listed than in our upcoming tunes. Also, just to reiterate, we found NO detrimental effects using the pump with off the shelf maps or no tuning at all and it did a very good job of being stable in pressure with a much narrower range of pressure.

I appreciate the political endorsement, although if you knew that I was just a gruff Navy guy in person you might not lol

I think I understand this, please correct me if I'm wrong and thanks for the clarification.

The pump does not need any special tuning changes when installed. That means no changes to pressure tables or anything else in the maps just like the other pumps on the market.

The MAF cal changes in the CS OTS maps are there to suit the CS intakes and have nothing to do with the pump itself.

Well, as I'm sure you've noticed, most popular off the shelf maps don't perform as well as a custom tuned and many times can be quite... how do you say nicely... "safe"??? That being said, you are correct in that the pressure tables are not seemingly an issue and like I said, we noticed a more consistent range in our testing. Other items we tested seemed to have larger peaks and valleys. Personally, I would think that is a result of efficiency but I don't have any data to support that theory so your guess could easily be as good as mine. I plan on talking to you soon Lex and maybe working something out for you to have one to play around with. Give me an email some time and we can figure it out as you can probably see a few other cars with scenarios that are a little more uncommon than we have. The more data the better!

Cheers,
Joel

I'm sure I'm not the only one that remembers this, but when this was first announced, the marketing material stated that these internals flow so much that they needed a custom tune to dial it back. I can't seem to find that anywhere but I'm sure this is what the previous guys were requesting clarification about. Now it seems that they're saying that no custom tune is required(but it's beneficial obviously). I don't have any reason not to believe that a tune is not required other than the original statement about needing a custom tune to dial back the fuel.

I don't want to beat on a dead horse, but I'm curious about why originally it was stated that the fuel flow or pressure needed to be reduced with a tune. I'm sure time will tell once people get these and gain experience using them.

I remember that as well. It mentioned something about the car running too rich without a tune.

Any idea when the CS hpfp specific maps will be avail? I'm assuming it'll be a free download with common setups (stock,stage1,stage2)

The readme files won't download, they just display below the name. All the Stage II are for an upgraded downpipe.

I don't think so. You shouldn't need to, I ran my CS internals on a Stage I OTS map, and the stratified OTS map and the Stock map for almost 3000 miles without any issue. Mostly on the Stage 1 OTS, but have probably 800 on the Strat and another 500 on the stock.

It's my understanding that the OTS stage1 maps won't take advantage of the increased fueling ability of the FP upgrade. I don't have a downpipe so I feel i have no option but an e-tune if I want to get the most out of the internals unless I'm mistaken here... I thought the CDFP was the bottleneck before the downpipe.

You won't gain any extra power with an e-tune simply because of the internals. The stock internals can handle a stock system, or even a mildly upgraded system fine. Typically it's only once you hit stage II, or have 3-4 mods that the internals are necessary.

They aren't a direct power mod. They are a power supporting mod.

Now an e-tune on a stock Mazdaspeed would still gain power, and with the internals it would too, but the two would be equal in power gains.

Generally above 17–18 psi in the lower RPMs is where a pump needs to be upgraded.

Hmm Cobb's website says: ALL Stage2 OTS Calibrations and the Stage1+Intake+TIH Calibrations REQUIRE a quality aftermarket CDFP to run properly.

So I guess I'll just stick with the cobb OTS stage1+intake+TIH and hope it runs awesomely... still have yet to install the CS stg2 intake, gonna do it all next weekend and go from stock to rock.

Correct, all Stage II OTS calibrations require a CDFP, but not all CDFP upgrades require a Stage II.

it says stage 1 ...

ALL Stage2 OTS Calibrations and the Stage1+Intake+TIH Calibrations REQUIRE a quality aftermarket CDFP to run properly.

thats why i assumed that this map pushed the fuel a little harder than stock... :-)

It says that on your Accesport when plugged in or on their site? If it's on the site I'd love to see the link.

Two things on this:

1. Cobb is notorious for having typos in their descriptions. I've taken screen shots and sent them in to get them fixed before.

2. On the Gen2 its not entirely uncommon for an Intake+TIP to overwhelm the stock pump. IIRC the Gen1/MS6 used different fueling logic, so they're more resilient. This may be what Cobb is going for in a better-safe-than-vented kind of way.

I bet you're right, because the map selection below that shows stage 1 with SRI/TIH **AND** IC, only need the CDFP upgrade.
So i'm guessing that they typoed and left out the *IC* on that line.

but i guess that means i can get an upgraded TMIC before i need a $$ DP... wooo

It's not a Gen 2 though, it's a MS6.

Anyway I read it this way though

"ALL Stage1 OTS Calibrations (excluding Stage1+Intake+TIH) have been designed to run within the limits of the factory CDFP to remain safe. Even at this power level, some vehicles may exceed the capacity of the factory CDFP. "

So they are saying it should be fine, but MIGHT need an upgrade. Which is true. And that is also why they are probably recommending it with the Intercooler upgrade for a stage I.

Lex is referring to when you would want to get a fuel pump based on when the stock pump is going to exceed its limits. You are referring to once a stock pump is beginning to shit itself.

Don't know what weirdness caused this to be a new post instead of editing into my last post like I wanted it to, but, the safe answer is you always need internals.

We had that feedback so far from one other customer. Curious. The install instructions worked though? Good to see them arriving!

P.S. I see what you are talking about now @ihasmazda;

The install instructions did work, that's where I found the youtube video. I was happy to see they arrived today, the tracking number said they were coming tomorrow.

I got my internals today! I was pretty stoked when I found them in my mailbox, tracking said they would come tomorrow.

The drawings on the box are awesome. I literally lol'd when I saw them, pretty much made my day. Thanks Megan! Now I need to order more Corksport parts to get more drawings. I got a pretty good idea for next time.

I really like the aluminum case that they come in, and the t-shirt is nice too. I was surprised when I saw my name stamped on the installation pipe, it's a nice touch. I'll probably leave it on my desk after I use it. You can never have too much anodized aluminum to look at. I don't know why but small things like that mean a lot to me.

All in all, I'm really glad I waited and got these Corksport internals. I haven't gotten to install them yet (I probably will do them Sunday), but I'm sure they'll perform great. Corksport has spent a lot of time developing these and it is clear that they care a lot about them.

Thanks Corksport!

I was also unable to access the installation video on the flashdrive, but it's on youtube so it's not a big deal.

I too am unable to open the video file from the usb drive. Looks like it's corrupted...
Can someone post a link to where it is, or maybe Corksport can you put the video up somewhere for download? since its almost 2gb i assume its a nice high def version.. It would be nice to have the original instead of some compressed YT version if possible...
Other than that pretty cool. Now I need to find an E8 socket...

We don't have the full version hosted anywhere other than Youtube right now. You should be able to watch the YouTube in 1080p if you swap the options, or download it via keepvid.com or something. I'll have to see if we can host it somewhere for download.

There was another thread talking about this... cant seem to find it.

I'm not sure why we stated that originally. I do remember seeing something about it and asking the same question. "Why would we say that, when I've been running this pump in my otherwise stock car for many miles." now I have an upgraded TMIC and SRI, but still running an OTS map that is NOT from us. (since we only provide stage II)

Tl;DR I don't know why, but it should run stock/stage 1 fine. Stage II we have maps for.

My only thought is that it will be "All Good" until your spill valve malfuctions from 2000+ fp pressure over working it. @Spencer@CorkSport; Have you logged pressures over 1800+ during your time with this?

I would think CS said this because it is claiming to add 5% flow over what everyone is currently using. Thus fp targets would be 5% off maps built around currently available pump upgrades.... however I am just a desk jocky with too much time on my hands, perhaps I am over thinking this...

I just got this installed this weekend. Am I the only one who didn't need the tools whatsoever? After tapping it in via screwdriver handle as instructed, the tappet didn't stay inside of the spring retainer and would keep falling out, and it would just press right back in by hand...
It made me a little nervous but it seems to be running OK and i saw a brief pressure reading of 1850 so far, so I'm assuming that it's working fine... it seems to be a lot quieter than the stocker which is nice.
