(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score My corksport turbo has arrived and it is going to be fitted next week at my tuner. My tuner has no experience with this turbo so I would like a starting point from those in the know. I don't do self tune or eTune, but rather a traditional dyno approach (please don't suggest tuners ). Here are my mods: COBB Accessport V3 COBB 3" downpipe COBB RMM COBB TIP CPE TMIC CPE Manifold Autotech HPFP internals COBB SF AIRBOX COBB SRI BOSCH 3 BAR MAP COBB 3 PORT EBCS 3" mandrel bend from dump to custom magnaflow muffler Resonator delete FORGE V1 BPV +corksport turbo* My question is: I want to achieve a DD friendly 300-320hp with a mild tune (like a k04 replacement with a bit more mid). What kind of boost levels should he be aiming for with my listed mods? We have nice octane fuel here in Australia, so fuel is no issue (can even run e85 as it is plentiful down the road, but would rather stick to the 98 octane here as cheaper and easier). I was also aiming for torque and boost to come in stronger at high rpms say 3.5k above, this recommended? Current k04 set up like most is quite a quick violent spool and I know thats not nice on the rods with a bigger turbo. I love the nature of the quick spool, but want this set up to last as no plans to build at the moment. Any feedback would be appreciated and helpful on the day from those who have a corky installed and are tuning for not crazy levels. Thank you |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I got that range of hp on my K04 with similar mods and Meth. All I can get out of the K04 at redline is ~17psi. I'll bet somewhere in that range would get you what you want. It seems a waste of a good turbo to do that though. I would just ask the tuner to keep the torque below 300 or so until 3500 - 4000 rpms, then taper it up til you run out of fueling. That way you would be safe on the stock rods, but still enjoy the benefits of the turbo if you wound it out |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Reverse taper to get the more linear power and OEM rod safety, not to mention better traction without sacrificing high RPM HP. I'll just speculate that spooling to 20psi and walking up to 22-23psi will yield just a bit more than you're looking for and be plenty safe, and you can dial in precise power with your spark advance and great pump octane.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks for the quick replies! My tuner is experienced with all manner of big turbo builds (is Australia's highest output wrx tuner) so they will be fine. Just asked for my own wonderings so I can tell them what to tune for (I don't want to just drop car and turbo off and say "go nuts", drive it for a period of time and have problems like I have read here many times with big turbo / stock block setups). I want to be able to go "ok, I would like it safely tuned at xx amount to keep my motor running happy for a long time" if you get me. More for my own piece of mind I suppose when I am chatting with the tuner as I have very little experience my self. So from the replies, I am gathering keep the torque below 300ftp (400nm here in aus) in the lower power curve (3.5k) and then open up past 20 up top? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I haven't vdyno'ed my 93 map in a long time, but it's probably in the neighborhood of 335/350 with a flat 22psi on the BNR, which I believe to be a very comparable turbo with the limited data available. Targeting 300ft-lb would be conservative and may impact inertia to carry higher power into upper RPMs, but that is something you can figure out while on the dyno.

| Not Ranked : 0 score A small turbo upgrade like this is very flexible - they can make insane torque and toss rods or make well into/above the 400ft-lb territory on a built motor. You need to decide where you're comfortable. If you duplicate the 330ft-lb you had on the K04 but allow the CS turbo to ramp up instead of crap out like a K04, you'll probably get the most enjoyment from it with minimal risk of engine damage. Do work above 3.8K, enjoy the car IMO.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Last question guys. I have access to e85 just down the road. Do you think I should change over to an 85 blend (I am current on 98 (94 aka I think)..not sure what that is in US terms though). If so, what blend are people using for a safe tune on a bigger turbo? |

Where in bris you from? I was in north-west (Ferny Grove) for 28 years of my life, but moved down here for a job. I am getting dyno tuned by HPF down here who have done all of my mods, so I figured perhaps go an e85 mix. Where do you get e85 in bris, on the united site I can't see a lot of suppliers! I don't really have the roads etc for runs on a road with a baby, easier to take it to a dyno and do it in a day and pick it up again. I just sent an email to my tuner, but hasn't replied so I thought I would ask around what people are generally doing. So 15 litre mix then with 98? How safe to run this mix without a tune before I get it custom tuned with bigger turbo? (I would fill it up on the day from empty and take it for the tune). | |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Well I'm technically from Ipswich, but saying Brisbane is easier haha. I have a united servo about 5 minutes from my house. One of the perks of living near Queensland raceway haha. Yeah, I mix anywhere between 15-20L then the rest on BP 98. I fill up to the 3/4 mark on 98 first then add the E85. I've been told up to 33% mix is safe without issue. But of course it's like anything. Tuning for it is the best to take advantage of the extra power it can produce. Ahh okay, understood. I'm sure they will be able to work out tuning with it, they are fairly reputable down there I hear. There's a great thread about E85 that's worth a read floating around.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Cheers for the info, I might give it a crack if the tuner feels its the best path on my set up. I have a united and a BP next to each other on my way to work! You think you have the e85....in victoria e85 pumps are about 10:1 than other states! Not sure why.....QLD definitely has more hoons! Good ol Ippy! Hey , least your not from Logan mate. Last Q : 85 mix ok to run before the tune so I can drive it to my tuner? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Haha, yeah it sure seems that way around here, so many Commodores haha. Yeah, at least it's not Logan! In regards to the E85. You can go up to a 33% mix without any dramas with tuning. I run a 25% mix on track days just for added knock protection and an octane boost without being tuned for it. So there's no dramas with that at all

| @nas711; first things first. If you're going to run E85, you should consider whether and how often you're willing to pull the HPFP to check/clean it. There are several threads on MSF discussing how "black death" coats and gums up the pump when you use E85. @Littloogy; has been doing some good work and research on options for HPFPs that will avoid this problem entirely. It sounds like IE is producing a HPFP that is flex-fuel compatible. Ours is not, nor are Autotech, KMD, nor Corksport (as far as I'm aware). IE HPFP Internals For E85

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score It's all rich pimps here in Melbourne. Never see the shit I used to see in Bris or goldy cruises like silvia, s14's, 300's etc. Or rust bucket dryliners. It's all fairly new wrx's, gti's or exotics here. I see a few MPS's, but very very rarely. Commo's...yeah a bit, but pretty new ones so they are well behaved! Nothing like an ippy mainstreet VL turbo skid show! haha

If you do a little searching, you can find that out for yourself. I don't run E, so I don't worry about it.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I've been running a 25% Eth mix for 30k miles, never cleaned anything. It's beneficial for wall wash / combustion cooling even if you're not using it for optimal spark advance - I'm of the opinion it's medicinal. You sacrifice some injector overhead for it due to the increase in specific gravity (you need 30% more eth to reach stoich), but since you're aiming for modest power, you'll have plenty of fuel.

You should throw full corn in there and see how the CS internals do with it, you know, for science and shit.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Thought about it. I have a little too much to deal with right now to be spending time cleaning the pump out. Also I really do not feel like losing my sending unit lol. Hell though we have write ups now on how to fix it so I guess I have no excuses. Would you be willing to throw me a 100% e tune base map if I offered up my car for a test run?
