Default Firewall Heat Shield

This part is something which is really a new part!

We made a replacement firewall heat shield to get rid of the ugly foam and aluminum foil version Mazda made.

It is made from aluminum and ceramic coated to be able to withstand the heat generated from the turbo.

Link for the Mazdaspeed 3 Heat Shield

We kept the same profile as the OEM unit with a small difference for wastegate actuators in the OEM location. We made a little more clearance there.

Our shop car has the CS turbo and the heat shield. We made the extra wastegate heat shield clearance specifically for our turbo so you will be good.

Does this heat shield fit with the CP-E exhaust mani? My OEM heat shield is gone and I wanted to run some wires and my vacuum line to the EWG behind the CS heat shield if it will fit.

Yes it will work. Disclaimer on this picture. The person who installed the turbo smashed the lower heat shield and two upper heatshield brackets flat in a hack job putting the car together. There is more clearance with the manifold that what is shown. Without spending 30 minutes fixing everything this is the best picture I could get.

10 degrees cooler or warmer than stock?

wouldn’t etching the logo be a better way; I have a vivid imagination and see a FLIR image of your logo on my firewall

10 degrees higher. The OEM shield does a good job at insulating, it just looks terrible.

i agree it looks terrible, but if its functional.......... couldn't you guys incorporate some sort of fiberglass material on the underside to have better temperature control?

The heat shield would work far better if it had some sort of radiant barrier on it, ie the gold foil stuff. Flat black is really the worst choice for a heat shield exposed to the massive infrared coming off of the manifold and turbine.

The heat shield is a high temp ceramic coating which is used to keep heat in exhaust and limit heat transfer. It is designed to be applied directly to exhaust system. Black happens to be the color it comes it. I am pretty sure the company made the coating that way to limit color change over time.

Sure, you may need to trim it a little bit to hide it behind this one.

It adds more cost.

but even so, they said its still a 10 degree increase from stock.... if they incorporated a better heat resistant material on the underside they could bring the temps down. maybe slightly more cost but if its only like $20 more id buy it

Was about to ask this... might not increase the shielding (will compress the OEM down, which relies on trapped air) but will sure as hell make it look better and more durable.

or just titanium (which has very interesting thermal properties, hot spots that do not spread).

Just opened my package today and I was surprised to find some candy along with a Miata post card. I asked for gen 2 speed post card, they emailed me said they didn't have one but they did not disappoint. It's the little things haha. I am inclined to add some sort of heat reflective material like you guys were talking about but overall it feels like a quality product.

I'll post some pics when I get it installed
