Default Fuel Pump Comparison Part 2

In part 1 we discussed fuel pumps, their uses and what’s inside them. Now we can talk a little about what goes into making them and what the differences are.     Does size matter? When looking at the stock piston on the factory fuel pump you can sure say that it does matter. If [...]

I wonder if that extra seal in the APR pump could help with black death issues?

waiting for whatever part where you announce your version is up for sale. I'm waiting for them, my friends say to get the autotechs, but I like the idea of all the comparisons. It just means yours will be better engineered..... hopefully....

Can't wait!!!

We've seen that it doesn't do much of anything to help the black death. CPE pumps still suffer from it.

Also, When did KMD again update their internals?

NEW KMD: Audi - A3 - 2.0T FSI - Engine - KMD Tuning - 2.0T FSI High Pressure Fuel Pump Kit - KMD Tuning & Engineering
OLD KMD: KMD High Pressure Fuel Pump Internals for MS3 & MS6

I wonder if it sohuld be any improvement over their previous iteration. Looks like the modified the coating, retainer clip and lengthened the larger piston size.

The new KMDs were released only a few months ago from what i can gather. The new Aviva KMDs use the stock retaining clip, where as the older KMD version came with an additional retaining clip. Some good reading on the Aviva website

For a long time the CP-E pump was rumored to be made by APR. The CP-E pump we ordered actually came with an APR sticker on the side of it. Oops.
why would you guys lie about this? every CPE pump i have ever seen has a CPE sticker on it and im sure 100% of the community who owns cpe pumps would say the same. Kind of strange you guys would get the only one in history with an APR sticker on it huh? care to take a pict of that sticker and post it?

For some it may be funny, but John ships a large quantity of pumps with no issues and has some projects in work to extend that to some high end cars. In the two years since he moved his operation from his garage to shop space he has doubled his square footage, made major upgrades to the building and is now looking at adding a dyno... so he must be doing something right.

First things first, I'm not sure how you were raised, but for me, calling someone a liar is just about the worst thing you can do to another person. That being said, I would also like to remind you that in both of these articles, not a single disparaging remark has been made about ANY brand and NO lies have been told either. Here's your picture from the CP-E pump we purchased to use on our own test car. Also... There is nothing wrong at all with the CP-E pump, and we have never said that. All that was said was that we got one with an APR sticker on it, do with that information what you will. If you want to talk any further to me about that, I'll be at OCC next weekend. In the future, I would give people a chance to respond to any wild accusation you have before going off half-cocked and calling them a liar.

PTP claims to heat treat the part which is interesting. This will add a surface hardness similar to the factory pump without the need for a coating. I don't have PTP internals to run the same test as the rest of the pumps on. If someone would donate a set to me I could test them.

There will be no winner pump at the end. They all have unique parts and ways of doing things. None of the pumps we tested had any failures or operated outside of what they advertised. From what I can tell, all of the manufacturers claims about there pumps are accurate.

In the future, I would give people a chance to respond to any wild accusation you have before going off half-cocked and calling them a liar.

in 200% sure u diddent buy that pump directly from cpe or one of its authorized vendors because they dont put that sticker on it, ever, period, end of story.

LOL, I could see taking the stock piston and turning it down a little and then maybe heat treating it. I wonder if someone has tried that yet.

Our Gen2 car has a pump with that sticker. But that's because it came from APR.

APR pumps = CPE pumps

APR builds and tests the pumps for CPE. If you look on their websites, the same test rig is used. Same internals, same retainers, same seals, same everything.

Who cares what sticker is on it.

It's because if a manufacturer of parts puts their name on a part, it means they have added value to it. If all that it is is a rebranding exercise with nothing added then it makes that manufacturer look a little silly.

Why does it even matter? We all know that the CP-E pump is manufactured by APR, so what does the sticker have to do with this comparison? Want proof? APR 2.0T FSI High Pressure Fuel Pump Look at the spring. Same as the CP-E unit.

EDIT: @XLT_66; beat me to it. Lol.

I hate to say this @superskaterxes; but you're verging on what your supposed to dispromote vendor on vendor bashing. We all know youre the guinea pig and liason for alot of CP-E stuff but everytime their name comes into play you're the first to attack and defend. Nobody is bashing anybody they're offering a study of pumps..

@www.cp-e.com;
You should feel really stupid for saying this... APR has been building CPE's pump from day one. With some of the issues CPE has been having, how do you know someone didn't forget to put a fucking sticker on it?

This whole argument is completely stupid.

You are out of line in this and have violated SEVERAL rules that we need to address.

First off, learn the English language before you come in here with ~200 posts to lecture a senior member for what he is saying.

Second off, Joel, you may want to check your attitude. We all appreciate what you guys are doing with the testing, but Anthony is just stating what he believes to be true. He never said that the testing was done badly, he was just stating that while yes, the CPE and APR pumps are the same thing, the one you have does not say CPE and DOES say APR. I have no idea where it came from, nor do I care. It is very possible that you got it from CPE and they did not put their name on it just in case it tested badly. That way, all they need to say was that it was a APR pump and not a CPE pump and blah blah blah. To be honest Joel, you are coming off as kind of a dick and that is not a good way to represent your company ESPECIALLY when your company has put out a few parts recently that have been less than ideal (i.e. catch can held together with glue).

I think what you guys are doing with the testing is awesome and is great technical information for the community, but please don't think for a second that just because your company is doing a great comparison of fuel pumps it gives you the right to be an asshole to a senior member who has made more of an impact with his contributions to this platform than your entire company has.

Yeah, because superskater went about it in a very respectful manner... This isn't even an argument worth having... It's a sticker. They came from the same place regardless of the sticker.

It's a fair response to serious allegations of shenanigans. And since apr makes their pumps, it's a CPe product. Someone in decals messed up at CPe or it's an apr pump.

Bottom line, easily solved. Was it bought through CPe?

THIS

I'm a pretty chill guy, I can take it as well as I give it. That being said, if you call me a liar, that's when I set my beer down. The pump was purchased by CPE, we used it, it had a slight issue, we got it fixed by CPE, it came back (from CPE) with that sticker on it.

Just like everyone else said, that means nothing to us, the pump still works fine and we used it for many miles in testing and never had an issue. Back to the facts eh???

Part 3 will be coming soon.
