CorkSport 2010-2013 Mazdaspeed 3 ECU Relocation Battery Box The Mazdaspeed 3 has a Battery Box that takes up more space than a watermelon in your refrigerator. Even worse, the stock ECU location can often interfere with intake upgrades. With these facts in mind, CorkSport decided to design a new Battery Box with a new location [...]

We tried to keep the price as low as we could. I would say in it's defense, there is a lot more to it than some of the simple folded sheet metal ones I've seen on the market. Also, the ability to use a full size battery and move the ECU out of the way is something that nobody else can offer.

Cheers,
Joel

Is it wider then the stock one? Useing the picture we can see how much longer it is (matches up with the corner of the fuse box) but can't tell how much closer to the engine it is.

It's not wider, and you can't really tell but it's actually longer than stock because we were able to use more room behind where the stock box ends.

Thank you, I wanted to see where the two sides closes to the intake/engine would be compared to stock that way I can see how much room I will have with my 3.5" intake. I would hate to spend $160 on the box and it not fit.

Default Installed with Airbox

As you can see it works together

If you look in between there is a large cable.

Here I am pointing to it.

Anyway it should work fine, but that one cable I'm pointing at is somewhat in the way. If you re-route that black cable through the ECU, or underneath it then they both will fit seamlessly.

Be sure to let people know not to track with it, in the disclaimer.
Or at least not with the lid on.

although unlikely, I am questioning whether having a crucial component such as the ecu not protected from things such as leaking battery acid... perhaps making a removal divider may be a solution

There's a critical reason the oem box is vented.
Putting the ecu INSIDE, now that's something.
Did you guys test this till a battery exploded, and they do when they get hot enough in a confined space full of hydrogen, to see how acid resistant the ecu is? Or that up to the end user to determine as well?

Lex asked a simialr question a while ago in another folder during the prototype about venting and C/S advised it was just as well vented as the OEM box, have you beta tested this box and had a fail?

The oem box has a hole in the TOP, because hydrogen is lighter than air.
In that regard, there is no way that box is as well vented as the oem box.

The pu's box doesnt have a hole at the top like the juans. In fact now that i think of it, when the lid is on only thing that lets it breath are the openings for the wireing.

I would like a "Battery box" with the ECU on the outside, just for good measure.

Not an "ECU + Battery box"...

Keep everything in the same locations (as this modified box) but make the box smaller and mount the ECU on outside of the box.
There is a reason they mount it away from the battery and that's because if there is a battery issue there is no threat of the ECU being damaged if there is a malfunction.

ex. battery fires, accidental short circuits, over heating, battery explosions, battery leaks, etc.

If the lid of the box sits at the same height as the stock box it wouldn't be hard at all to just cut out the same hole the stock box has, that way you still utilise the under hood ducting that's there
Just not sure if it's same height or not..

Now I know that's not buying a "plug and play" item in needing to cut that hole, but i'd be willing to do it and use that ducting that's already there..

Gen2s do not have top venting on the battery box, nor does it have ducting like the gen1.

Is there any reason that you can't mount the ECU on the outside of this box? Looks to just be some bolt holes the thread into the ecu plate.

Considering this box is for a gen2, it's not really pertinent. Perhaps if one is built for the gen1 they'll utilize the ducting?

I wonder why Mazda removed it from the Gen2 though...

I thought the purpose was to save space? Mounting outside this box would take up more space

The design of the box is ECU infront of battery instead of beside it as is stock configuration. If you were wanting it externally mounted, but also free up the same space the box does, wouldn't the logical thing be have a shorter box with the ECU mounted on the outside of the front of it?

I think the rationale with putting the ecu inside the box is to protect it better perhaps?

I'm assuming they deemed it wasn't necessary given the hood scoop perhaps?

Hood scoop just supplies air to the TMIC though and it has the shroud and all, not like there's a ton of random air swirling around in there because of the scoop.

Either way, I don't know (and not too fussed as I own gen1 hehe) but hope for sure they use the ducting for gen1 box.

I thought the purpose was to fit a larger intake, which this will allow for. If the ECU doesn't interfere with the filter then why the fuck not put it on the front?
