Default My Speed3

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to the MSF community and let everyone hear my current build process. My name is Luke McCarvel, and I just moved here from Idaho to start my adventure with CorkSport. I'm part of the sales department with Brandon, so if you call it will either be Brandon or Myself. I bought my 2009 Speed3 Gt going on three years ago. When I bought the car all that was installed was a cat back exhaust. Before I even had the keys in my hand, I knew that I would be spending good amounts of money to modify the car to a level that I wanted. Well, I quickly learned that there is not stopping the boost bug. There is never enough power when it comes to being a man correct? I started with just a cat back and went from there. In the time that I have had the car I have installed many parts including:

AccessPort V3 ( Custom tune by Ryan Marting with Purple Drank Tuning, 91 pump, E85)
Fuel Pump Internals
HTP 3.5" intake ( Figured BT was in the future so why not get an intake that supports one)
Forge V1 BPV ( Sword Clash)
CX Racing Intercooler Piping paired with the CorkSport small core
CP-E Stage 2 RMM
Bosche 3 bar map sensor with PNP harness
CorkSport EBCS
Cobb Down Pipe
Borla Catback
CorkSport Short Shifter with CorkSport Aluminum weighted knob
Set of 245/40r18 Toyo T1 Sports
I feel like I'm missing something I just can't remember at the moment.

Right now the suspension on the car is completely stock. When I was researching doing modifications I wanted to make the heart of the car strong before I cared about the appearance of it.

Since I have gotten my Speed3 fully bolted and tuned, I have been able to go out and put down a 12.8 @ 110mph in the 1/4 on my stock turbo. I have been quite impressed with how much Ryan Martin has been able to get out such a small snail. I ran the 12.8 at Portland International Raceway a few weeks ago, and having seen twelves makes me put the car away from the track until I can get a bigger turbo swapped underneath the hood.

As of right now I would like to get a CorkSport turbo, upgrade the FMIC piping (CX fitment is crap), entertain the idea of meth injection, and slap a CorkSport intake manifold on. Once I have installed those parts I want Ryan to tune it again and see what she can do on the drag strip. Until then all I can do is try and improve driver mod in order to lower 1/4 mile times. If anyone has any questions about me or my speed let me know!

Cheers,
Luke

I'm currently in my build process as well. You are motivating me to start my own thread as well. Good luck with your build. Red MS3's the best looking in my opinion.

Thanks man! I feel like it's been a ton of time and energy getting it to this point. However, I want to swap turbo's, so the fun has only just begun!

It's so funny because when i first bought the car i was like man this car is fast. Now if I do a pull with a stock Gen 1, i run away. It's just neat to see how far modifications and tuning has brought the car. Of course i have to thanks Ryan Marting for the sick tunes!

Good time at the quarter. I knew I was able to pull a 12 with what I was running when I had E. Ran 13.8 @ 109. Could not launch it for the life of me (wheel hop bad).

Is the cpe mount your only mount? I had a jbr88 and CS trans insert

Yea I had to switch to hoosier qtp's just to get traction off the line. Otherwise, I was in the same boat. The CP-E mount is my only mount currently. Possibly looking at putting in a PMM.

I know right. I want a aquamist as well.

Maybe look into a Snow Performance or Cooling Mist?

What wheels are those QTP's on? What size tire is it?

If you're looking for cheaper meth kit options, I have been happy with the quality of my coolingmist parts. However, after I've built up and reworked my kit, I've spent nearly enough for an Aquamist kit. It all depends on how you plan to spray and tune for it. If a simple boost switch works for you and it's a small amount of meth, the lower end coolingmist kit would be a good starting spot.

Also, for a quick and cheap suspension aid for the drag strip, look into air bags for the rear. There are a few threads on here about them. Air up at the track, get rid of squat on launch entirely, air back down to nothing, and drive home.

The wheels i use are some old school Mazda 323 rims i believe. 16" rims that barely clear the caliper. Those are wrapped in my qtp's that are a 26x9.5. I really want to do some suspension work because i know that this car is capable of faster than a 12.8 in the 1/4.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to install the CS rear trunk brace this Sunday to stiffen up my rear as well. I use my hatch a lot or I would have gone for a #becauseracecar brace like CS's old one, or some of the other offering out there. I'm sure a decent set of adjustable COs would be more than enough for the 1/4, you shouldn't really need any bracing, just less squat.
