Post A new MS6?

CorkSport Family,

Mazda recently revealed their new Mazda 6 coming in 2018. According to Mazda, it will be factory equipped with the 2.5 turbo as seen in the CX-9.

Very exciting news for Mazda and us over here at CorkSport.

Could this be the test for a new MS6? Follow the link below to our Facebook page. Scroll down just a little bit so you can find the article after clicking on the link.

I would like to hear some thoughts on this!

I feel like it is going to be FWD like all the current mazda 6. I also feel that it won't be a mazdaspeed. Mazda's current trend is making plush family cars and i don't see them leaving that market. Even if it is turboed, I'm guessing it will be underwhelming. I hate to be the Debbie Downer here but Mazda has been teasing us with a mazdaspeed for quite some time and year after year there is nothing but an updated miata and a boring slow family sedan.

Oh trust me i hear you man. It will likely never be equivalent to the MS6.

We are just hoping that they sell the ever living crap out of those cars and maybe justify a performance line using the 2.5 turbo and AWD technology.

Not holding my breath on that one though ha.

That Mazda sort of burned their fan base and fueled both Honda and Ford's development and marketing arcs with various turbo configured performance oriented models, while holding the turbo Skyactive engine back from reasonably common sense applications, says a lot. They could have the Marketing Dept write a book on how to offend a fan base and turn their enthusiasts over to other marques. I am sure Marketing will blame it on Accounting. Glad I sort of saw this coming, and traded my 2010 MS3 for a new 2013 MS3. Sucks to have an aftermarket performance themed company and brand, when Mazda exhibits this sort of treatment to it's customers. Corksport and Cobb both did some great development work. Maybe it will be the new WRX for me. Or the Honda Civic type R. You could always de wing it and change the front end w aftermarket assys. Sure like my MS 3. Hard to replace it, as I learned recently while shopping around for it's successor.

the big question will be the drivetrain aspect. FWD will be a dud, awd would be a winner. that engine is fairly robust and from what I've been told they will be using a standardized injector design this go round, which will open a ton of doors for performance. Doesn't have to be a speed, I'll take a plush awd turbo anyday. Few engine mods, and some suspension upgrades and now I have a new grocery getter from hell.

Already told the wife if its awd the old ms6 goes up for sale next summer and i'll be buying a new one when it comes out.

That car better be AWD or Mazda is taking six steps backwards.

At least it's a step in the right direction, and makes the Mazda 6 more competitive with Accords, Camrys, etc.

However, it's not a Speed by any stretch. No Manual Transmision option is strike 1. Small turbo with no top end HP is strike 2. FWD only is strike 3. While the MS3 was FWD only, I can imagine the new 6 with all the luxury and turbo additives is going to weight quite a bit more than the MS3 did.

Mazda has been heading more towards the eco-luxury side of the spectrum. While they're doing a good job, they're alienating their zoom-zoom following. Please Mazda, put a larger turbo on the 2.5T to get some top end power, then put it in the 3 & the 6 with a MT and sport package. In my heart I know Mazda is still too small to risk doing both, but I can dream. I'd prefer an AWD Mazda 3 2.5T. With a larger turbo, I'd think 300HP and 310TQ would be very achievable and still give mileage comparable to a CX-9, as it weight so much less.

Just reading the words, "competitive with the accord and camry" makes me sad. They have the possibility to compete with mid range HP family sedans and they won't. Just sad.

No top end power is probably a function of engine design as much as it is the turbo being small-ish or maybe even a tad of tuning. Recall 5500rpm throttle closure...

Like the DISI, it's built like a truck engine for low end TQ at the cost of flow at the top end.
