Guess they want to play with the Focus RS. Hope the numbers are at least close to the Focus.

Ya seems legit they are selling the shit outta these new 6's and new CX's they are every fuckin where down here. Milk that while building up anticipation for new speeds. AWD would be sick tho... why did they make the MS6 awd and not the 3's? Wtf

MS6 was aimed at being a much higher end car, classier, fancier, costlier.

The MS3 was aimed at being a cheap Subaru WRX competitor. AWD wasn't done because of cost, but the MS6 they didn't care about cost.

You would be better off asking a two year old what new cars are coming out than trusting motortrend. They printed that the c7 corvette was going to be mid engine.

Corksport needs to start part development now so they have 3rd gen cams and manifolds in stock by 2019.

Naw just keep the 3 hatch and make a 6 as well. But honestly another speed 6 would have to comparable to something like an Audi to be relevant.

So what a 2016 model or in 2016? Two different things, if it is the 2016 model that would be in like ten months...

I can see the price point being much different.

It makes sense that they wouldnt bother with a 6 if awd is on the new 3 but it would be nice to have a choice of sedan & hatchback like subaru did for a while, but subaru also sold half a million cars last year so they can do that kind of stuff.
I highly doubt that a DC paddle shift will be available either. I just read that the damn hyundai veloster has it so it can't be a cost thing.

if they offered a sedan and hatch, I could see only doing one new speed, especially in the interest of cost. if DC paddles arent costly, then why would you doubt mazda to consider it at least?

Hyundai is 6x the size of mazda in car sales #s . They can afford more development and costs needed to design/buy and produce new IP. A dual clutch setup would be nice, but i doubt they would have it. Especially for the price range we are hoping for.

Why so much excitement for awd? Just buy a 6 if that's the case. Unless I'm missing something here

always kinda had a thing for AWD hatches lol. That and traction. Plus 6s are becoming harder and harder to find. As you can see from my sig, the last thing I want is to buy another speed and immediately rebuild the damn thing lol.
Bottom line, I just want to see the speed come back. whether it be hatch, sedan, coupe, wagon, awd or fwd.

First and foremast I want another Speed. After that the priority list for me personally is this:
1: Hatchback
2: 300hp+
3: Sub $28,000 cost
4: RWD (but since we know that won't happen...AWD... if you must)
5: Flappy Paddles

Let's see it Mazda.

Flappy paddles? What happened to driving your car? It saddens me to know that people really want to get away from the manual shifting.

Flappy Paddles number 5... because lowest priority. I much prefer a manual gearbox... though its more fun to say flappy paddles.

The only reason I would want flappy paddles is so the sheep can buy these cars and keep production numbers high so the platform doesn't die after two years. I still maintain that that's part of the GTI's success, the fact that they can sell it to both John Doe, and John's girlfriend (or boyfriend).

Yeah, if true, it sounds like they are targeting the STI, and unless they're going to offer it for WRX prices, it runs the risk of failing to compete with the STI when it comes out, because you know Subaru has got to be working on a new engine (to replace the aging EJ257) that would be competitive with Mazda's offering.

Additionally, they run the risk of losing business from people like me that can't afford even a WRX, never mind an STI with all of its powertrain bells and whistles. Part of the reason I even own an MS3 is because it's a cheap car for what it offers. I got my used 2012 a few months ago for at least $7,000 less than a similar year/mileage used WRX, and realistically, even the "premium" WRX's don't even offer dual zone climate control, pushbutton ignition, Xenon headlights, or half the nice shit my car has. For God's sake you can almost buy a premium Mustang Ecoboost with the performance pack for less than a used STI.

The whole concept of the FWD hot hatch is high horsepower in a cheap package. I don't believe Mazda "needs" to put AWD on these potential new Mazdaspeed vehicles. Value is part of the whole package, it's part of what differentiated the MS3 from the Evo and WRX/STI at the time it came out.

People are always talking about the mod potential of a platform. The EJ257 might have more power potential than our cars stock for stock, but I could throw a built block in my MS3 and still come out ahead compared to owning an STI.

I'd rather have a MS3 that's 250 lbs lighter than have an extra 30 HP.

What if you can have both? What if 50 more HP over the factory power will be available only with a tune, on pump gas?

Around here the hothatches war is getting sharper. Seat Leon Cupra comes with adaptive dampers, 280HP, even a wagon body in addition to the hatchback. That with 200lbs less than a gen1 3MPS/speed3. And most importantly the Cupra obliterates by performance and driving experience the dull golfR.
The new Honda TypeR promises a lot of performance as well as cabin space. The focus ST and the incoming 2.3T RS are already known. The new WRX is already better than the 2008 STI, so the new WRX is also very good.

And there's the other breed of super hatches: audi RS3, bmw 1m, a45amg.

So yes, Mazda needs to play hard to survive this game. I hope they listened when I asked for the 2.5SkyActivG-T and 3000cc/min injectors. We can cake care of the pistons and rods, the crank and gearboxes are already reasonable, but the fueling is giving us head aches when going for more power.

Or does what more and more companies are doing and gives us di + pi in the one motor controlled by OEM ECU

The new golf r/s3 motor is like that...

I doubt Mazda would only lower weight without adding power. We are so fixated on HP as consumers that it would be difficult to get people to buy one that has the same HP as before. I love all the thoughts you have though @mituc; there is some good competition out there currently, sadly we don't get some of those over here. The new Honda TypeR and GolfR though are both pretty good ones to tackle and beat.
