| Not Ranked : 0 score Yeah, at the stop light, you floor it to 35, cause that's the speed limit, and you'll either hit traffic or Mr plod will write you a speeding ticket cause as far as every law enforcement agency in Australia is concerned, every km over is a killer and therefore akin to murdering someone and you should be punished accordingly... /rant Edit: for context Australia doesn't have those big open freeways like I see in many videos posted here... So stop light drag races are the main form of "street race" I've seen happen, and 9 times out of 10, they get shut down at the speed limit... So when you're only going to 35 or 50 mph, an auto diesel AWD cx5 is actually pretty damn good!

35mph and below is what we reserve for small local roads. Bigger roads are usually 40-50mph. Highways almost always 60-80mph.

Lastly, advertise the fuck out of the speed line and people will come flocking. 30-32k for a awd 320hp monster? Thats a no brainer.

| Not Ranked : 0 score If a bicyclist can't ride behind a passenger car then the car can burn in flames. If it's diesel and it doesn't tow or carry serious weight then fuck it. And if it tows and/or carries a lot of weight then it will not go through the city centers. And there is absolutely no diesel passenger on the planet that a bicyclist can ride behind. Not even the newer ones with very strict emission control such as Euro6 or whatever the equivalent is in different areas of the planet. A bicyclist can ride behind a 5 litre V8 from the mid 2000's, but cannot ride behind a 2015 1.6 diesel car. So fuck diesel passenger cars! Fitting a truck engine in a passenger car is a shitty trend which appeared after an idiotic and moronic audience concluded that the sensation of power is more fun than real power, and spinning wheels in bumper to bumper traffic around idle RPMs is definitely fun and worth exploring also because of the lower fuel consumption. After a while the cretins from the above mentioned audience decided that they should issue laws to convert or force even more people to their idiotic belief by establishing taxes based on the CO2 emissions. And the diesel cars emit less CO2 both because they burn less fuel (which is fine) and because instead of CO2 they spit out more soot. Now cities like Paris and others suffer from the diesel mirage every summer when they don't have enough wind or it doesn't rain for more than like 5-7 days. And when it rains their clothes and houses are painted with diesel shit coming down from the skies. The CO2 is consumed by trees and grass (which the idiotic people like to get rid of to make more space for business buildings with large concrete parking lots to park their luxurious shitty diesel cars that need a fill up only once a month). The soot the diesel cars spit out is pure poison and nothing consumes it. There is absolutely no clean diesel. Not after using that passenger car like 2 weeks in cities in stop&go traffic at low RPMs and lots of idling. So the next mazdaspeeds CAN NOT be diesels. Because I like to believe Mazda is not participating to this idiotic planet poisoning diesel fiasco just like they refused to play the ball in the other stupid game of downsizing.

When I stop at a light I have to look from a distance if the car in front is diesel or not, and if it is or I can't figure out if it is I have to activate the recirculation. You just started getting diesels in the states as well, you'll see how it is quite soon.

Apparently the big shakeup is oil pricing over the next 6-18 months. Hiroshima has forecasted a bump significant enough to redirect all short term resources towards improving fuel consumption. It "might" explain why they're so focused on their core engineering before branching further into niche areas. Also, their diesel may be clean but it's not that clean. Apparently they never got the target emissions they wanted when testing a candidate for the MS/MSP variant. | |

I don't like saying this here, but I work for Mazda. I have in's with DSM's, field engineers, and highly respected instructors through Mazda's facility in Schaumburg, IL. I beat them weekly with questions about new product technology. Speeds get brought up everytime because they know how much I love my own car. I explain to them also how this forum right here has taken their product line and improved it over and over. They even take time out of their days to call me with either good or bad news about the speed. Honestly, the reason they are so iffy about the speed line is purely sales. The speed 6 failed hard in sales, really hard. Nobody knew what they were. The speed 3 was ok, but if you're not a true enthusiast about this car then you know nothing about it. The first time I heard about the speed is when one came in at the dealer when we first opened... Another reason too is the lack of maintenance customers do on the performance aspect. One customer I had didn't even know the car had a turbo.. Going 10-15k between oil changes. All the turbo failures, cheap timing system, ect. Mazda had the balls to stick up for their customers and replace this stuff for free, even out of warranty. Just because they didn't want to loose the customer. Less parts = less to worry about = less failure = Skyactiv. Fuck, a shortblock costs 2300 bucks. Head intact. All of that plays a role in how low cost this vehicle is. This forum has alot of members, but there are even more people that know nothing about us.. The skyactiv system yields great results with power and torque for a econ car. I'm hoping for a turbo version. The electronic VVT is instant, the power band is smooth, and fuel mileage is unbeatable, variable compression, awesome technology. Compared to a DISI I can see a sky motor spanking it up and down. Repeatedly. /soapbox

| Not Ranked : 0 score @mituc; it's intersting because a lot of companies are definitely trying to push the "diesel is cleaner, diesel is better" platform. Most of the people saying that though are car enthusiast magazines, sites, and people. Hearing the talk about how terrible they are in the real world is definitely interesting. Definitely makes me rethink them. As for the Speed. I think everyone brings up valid points. I think Mazda is still just trying to make sure their bread and butter Mazda3, CX5, Mazda6 and now MX5 will continue to do well and sell excellent. Mazdaspeed versions are probably in their dreams but they don't pay the bills. If you look at all the speed versions they did none of them have been near the success they would like. The original Mazdaspeed Miata had the factory burn to the ground in year 2. Fail. The Mazdaspeed Protege was... well... less than excellent in many ways. The Mazdaspeed 6 basically NOBODY knew about, and even their MS3 is rarely known by anyone that doesn't read car magazines/forums/sites on a regular basis. Most people I tell about the MS3 are like, right, I've always liked the Mazda 3 but they are just too slow. Then I'm like... uuh it has a turbo and 265 hp, and they are like... what? Then I'm like... I just told you that the Mazdaspeed version is their turbo version. Lol even at dealerships for other cars they don't know what it is. "Ya this Acura will be way faster than your Mazda3." "Um I doubt it" salesman laughs "this thing has a 210hp V6" me: "right and my MazdaSPEED3 had 265hp, TURBO" salesman looks at me blankly thinking 'I don't know what car he is talking about, this dude is an idiot there was no 265hp Mazda3.' Lol. Until Mazda can change their Marketing to get people aware of the SPEED =TURBO = POWER ... most people will continue to not understand. My money is still on the next Mazdaspeed being the Miata.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Mazda has done a pretty shit job of advertising the mazdaspeed line. The reason the Evo and STi don't really need advertisement is because they had a reputation going into American sales and a much longer production run than the speed line. Very few people knew about speed6's until they were already out of production. Speed3's have done well for themselves, but I imagine Mazda's costs for warranty repairs for smoking turbos, VVT failures and tossed rods made them rethink their profit margin. A 4K motor replacement + dealership labor under warranty on a 20-22K car doesn't make a whole lot of sense to a car company's bottom line.

| Not Ranked : 0 score The MZR DISI was definitely a learning platform for both Ford and Mazda. Much as the motor Subaru/Toyota are using in the BRZ/FRS is. Both companies will learn something from it. I have a feeling that Subaru will slap a turbo on there for a STi version soon which will be a pretty fucking badass car IMO.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Yep. In fact I have friends who know next to nothing about cars but think every Subaru Impreza is blazing fast and can't name a single Mitsubishi other than the Evo. It's sort of reverse of the Mazda.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Maybe I was just a little out of the loop because I was stationed overseas from late 2006 until early 2011, but a co-worker bought a MS3 in Germany and that was the first time I saw one. Never saw an ad for one. Even after I got back and bought my pu, never really saw anything until a tv ad for 3s had a ms3 in it. It want even really mentioned, just driving around in the background. Using bad grammar from my cell phone.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I discovered the Speed line when my dad was looking at Mazda6s back in 2006. I was 12 at the time and was practically begging him to get a Speed6, but it was out of my parents budget. Fast forward 8 years and I never lost sight of the Speed line and got my own Speed3. For the power we can make with such few light mods and a low base price this car is hard to beat, but it's a double edged blade. It's cool to own a car no one knows about, but that part sucks when it comes to Mazda making a profit. I wish Mazda would make Speeds still fairly cheap, but it was a special order vehicle that way they don't make excess, but it keeps us happy. Wishful thinking, I suppose. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Well. In spite of Mazda getting hurt because no one bought a speed 6 or knows what a speed 3 is that's actually the main reason I like this platform so much. Can't beat the stealth factor. It never gets old when you blow away all kinds of well known high powered, or supposedly sporty cars, during road racing. That feeling of win and total gheyness is priceless.

1. less fuel consumption means less CO2. But remember CO2 is not a harmful gas and it's eaten up by plants; 2. the diesel engines have a lean burn, while the petrol engines have either a stoech or rich burn. But in reality, because the diesel has less refined and larger radicals only the "less CO2" target is hit. That's why over the time the diesel engine manufacturers tried all kind of solutions with diesel particle filters, AdBlue (always using engine oils with low SAPS to prevent the ashes accumulation inside the particle filters, these oils also lubricating less than the mid/full SAPS oils) and so on to reduce the ashes production. They failed, they continue to fail, and they do it on the expense of the nature and our lungs behind the shelter of the trend, marketing and the only true argument which they use as a base argument for all others: less fuel consumption. However, Mazda FTW came with these skyactiv-G engines which at cruising speeds slightly higher fuel consumption than a diesel with similar power. Mazda FTW also spanked the asses of those manufacturers who aggressively promote the downsizing, mainly VAG and (sadly) Ford. Downsizing makes sense up to a point, past that point with the current technology it's just some stupid contest. This is why Mazda should continue their initial project of turbo-ing the 2.5SkyactivG (2.5SkyActiv-GT FTW, please, with 2000+cc/min DI injectors, please, one extra 1000cc/min port injector would be nice to have from the factory to keep those intake valves clean and to allow us to tune the fuck out of these engines).

Now my friends from southwest VA, completely different story. I never saw a single one of these when I was at Virginia Tech, and when I bought it, all of my friends (who are from DC, Yorktown, Roanoke, etc) asked, "What does it even look like?". So that suggests to me that this car is somewhat region-centric. I see plenty of them in the NJ/PA/NY tri-state area, that's all I know, and I know I was looking at quite a few in MD on Cars.com when I was shopping as well. I'm also not sure that Mazda truly under-advertised this car, because I've never seen a GTI or WRX ad, either. Those cars sell themselves.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I found out about the MPS line when I saw an episode of Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson hooning around with a red 6MPS (Mazdaspeed6 in the US as you all know). One year later I got my own MPS. I stopped watching TV about 6 years ago so I don't really know, but I can bet that if I turn it on now on a random television post I will see the same car commercials from mercedes, volkswagen, opel, renault, maybe citroen, audi, kia, hyundai. And they all advertise their small diesels or super small 1 litre turbo engines because that's what the market asks for, that's the trend. You will never ever see here a commercial for promoting a performance model. No way! And when, and if the new Mazdaspeed will come out with a 2.5 turbo engine a lot of the competitors will have the smaller displacement advantage here in Europe because that means smaller taxes and supposedly better fuel economy. At least around here a 2.5 turbo AWD mazdaspeed3 or 6 will be possibly even tougher to sell than the incoming focus RS (which now with 5 doors I have to admit that got my full attention in case a new mazdaspeed3 will not come).

| Not Ranked : 0 score It really must be region-centric. I am surprised when 1 out of every 20 people I talk to know what a speed actually is. Everyone else just thinks its a regular slow Mazda3. You are correct that I don't really see WRX ads, the GTI though I have seen plenty of ads for. You can't say you don't remember this:
