(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score For those of you that have received the TSB Fix 01-002/11 for the smoking turbo, we have added in the option to select the CorkSport Turbo Inlet Pipe with a breather hose vent for the crankcase vent from the valve cover to the turbo inlet pipe. ![]() When purchasing, simply select Yes - Received Mazda Service Bulletin Fix 01-002/11 in the vent breather hose option to get the modified TIP. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I accidentally ordered your TIP with the breather fitting and don't need it after all. I plugged the end of the fitting with a rubber stopper, but now it makes a whistling noise (similar to what a pipe organ would) because air is quickly passing by the bottom of the fitting (which is mostly hollow) where the cylindrical breather hose shaft meets the main tube. I'm thinking of hack-sawing the fitting off, sanding it down, covering the resulting hole with something, then using multiple layers of aluminum tape to seal it. Without the hollow tube the whistling noise should stop. Thoughts? |

Does anyone else care to weigh in and share what they think is causing the whistling noise and how to eliminate it? I really don't think the intake would make this noise without the extra breather port, but I could be entirely wrong... | |

IMO if its new, message Corksport see if their is anything they can do. If not I'd post a WTT and see if someone with a genwon intake that what's the breather option wouldn't mind trading.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Yeah, I did consider that the sound may be part of typical turbo operation. For the reasons I mentioned above, though, particularly that the pitch is always the same, I don't think it's the case. It would stand to reason, for instance, that as the turbo spooled up the pitch would become higher and higher as it spun more rapidly, you know? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score It really doesn't. This little turbo only spins so fast and once it's going, it sounds the same...just a hissing noise. you can cut it off if you want but the sound will still be there.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I wonder if it's an important consideration at all for that breather hose to be... 1. As short as possible 2. Going downwards from one side to the other without any dips Would there be consequences if not?

2. given the routing of the stock system, it seems irrelevant. stock system is basically level, and pre-maf which is good under vac but bad under boost with the blow-by and possible oil misting

| Not Ranked : 0 score What made me curious is just why the stock hose is so stiff opposed to just using a thicker hose that also won't kink. Particularly on the revised valve cover where the valve cover nipple now angles downwards instead of going straight out. People of said what's important in this TSB fix is that the breather on the intake is reloacted to the tip from the sri. But after getting my revised valve cover and tip, I went back to my aftermarket tip, and my smoking issue was indeed still fixed.

| Not Ranked : 0 score there's probably something different internally on the VC too, but no way to be sure unless you compare yours to a non-updated one

| Not Ranked : 0 score I wonder about the dips also because in OCC instructions, it's often reccomended to pay attention that that the hose-ing is downward and straight as linearly as possible.

"Optional crank case breather hose available for turbo vehicles affected by Mazda Service Bulletin #01-002 /11 that received a factory fix for turbo smoking due to insufficient crank case ventilation. This only applies to 2007-2009 Mazdaspeed 3 and CX7 built before July 2008. Click Here to see the whole TSB from Mazda. Page 3 shows a diagram on what to look for to see if your vehicle has had the TSB." Here is the service bulletin: http://www.corksport.com/images/add_...001-002-11.pdf Easy answer: If you have 2007-2009 that has service records of being taken to Mazda for the Bulletin fix... then you need it... If you have any other year, or never took it for the bulletin, you don't need it. Best answer... If you buy our Stage II intake kit, it doesn't matter whether you have it or not!
