330g/s is some serious air for a k04, does it translate into extra top end?

Yes, the damn ko4 pulls hard to 7k not the normal drop off you would see. I need to get back on the dyno and add some fuel I was kinda getting close to maxing out the injectors.

I was going over the instructions and there is no mention of removing the timing chain cover. Doesn't that have to come off to replace the washers on the crank bolt? Can't you time the motor properly without removing the crank bolt?

HAHA. I can say that the cams from the batch of cams that are in Teddy's car and Steve's car are definitely allowing both of the those cars to breath better.

Teddy's car had a significantly different torque curve with very conservative timing on the dyno.

That was definitely a contribution from the cams. @ that time, he had no other mods that would have allowed that type of breathing in the higher revs.

People have since gone faster, but he made the 11.61 pass with those cams, and does not drive gingerly ANYWHERE, so that should lend some confidence to the cams in terms of design spec.

Kritz's car has always been fast right from the lot, but I detuned his car HEAVILY from the map he was running before the cam install. Unfortunately, before the Epic meet, I had Teddy's car and another car to tune @ the wire, and was only able to briefly street tune Steve's car.

I will say that it looks as if Steve's car will probably (if we decide it best) hold 20 psi until redline, which was not the case before the cam install.

Steve and I need to work on his tune. Both of our schedules have been crazy, his a lot more than mine.

@Easter Bunny; these cams idle very well, without any tuning. Sorry. LOL

Hope you guys can get a "Cam Tuning Tips" sticky going to help is refine our tunes when we switch to the new cams. Sounds like step one is to scale back timing and load after the cam install, and then slowly inch back up.

I think that is the best way to go about it. Cams are tricky in that every car reacts to cams differently, and in our case there isn't much data to use as a reference.

As you probably know, only the intake valve timing is variable on the ms3 and ms6, so there are likely some really nice VVT tweaks that can be made as well.

In terms of ignition advance, always better safe than sorry, imo.

One thing of note, probably best not to go any lower than around 10-11* @ redline in terms of timing due to increasing exhaust gas temps.

I was concerned about that @ one time and Nishan was nice enough to share some testing data he did and it seems as if 10* is a good rough threshold not to fall below @ redline.

I think it is safe to say that around 10* @ 7k is about as low as you want to go on any speed.

Nishan has some egt data and iirc, @ 10*, EGT's start to move up drastically.

Very seriously considering this. Is anyone able to lend me a hand with the special timing tools in Brisbane Australia.

Remember a K04-882 is also an upgrade for my CX7.

Also I have heard the CX 7 might already be running different cams or timing from the 3 and 6. If this is true it's another reason to do the cams, K04, HPFP and tune to bring performance up above stock MPS.

Tips for beginners who are just following their instructions:

• Do not loosen the crankshaft bolt without replacing the 3 friction washers inside the valve cover.
  
• The valve cover needs to be taken off on a gen1, you won't be able to properly torque the exhaust cam sprocket bolt unless you mod a 21mm socket.
  
• It's extremely difficult to push that chain tensioner back and rotate the cam for the extra "slack". My arm didn't fit inbetween for the lower blind plug.

There's probably more but those were the major things I noticed today when swapping head studs.

I popped a coupler off on the last dyno pull, but the only data I have to support the cams is Teddy's silly torque curve, and tbh, his car was pretty conservatively tuned.

His head is not ported.

His build consists of rods, pistons and head studs.

Teddy's curve..excuse the coupler blowing off.. but if I had to guess, I would say we were well into 500 hp territory, but the interesting note is the tq curve.
