Hmm that actually looks pretty cool. I like a medium-light shifter and something like this would be perfect. Most products seem to be either heavy or too light this lets you choose. Great job!

If I take my car to valet or service, I like them knowing that it's a 6-speed and where reverse is so they don't inevitably stall out and roll forward when they mean to go backward. I would have personally preferred the gear markings over your logo, but otherwise I like the concept.

The top cap screws on and off. If there was a way to ensure the shift pattern ended up level each time, that would make for an easy way to do it.

welcome to summer time hand blisters.

I love the concept but aluminum knobs are no bueno in the summer in southern states. I've had them in 2 cars now and never again if I can avoid it.

Good point. That could be really difficult. Maybe we could print it on the front, obviously not as simple to see, but might benefit the valet driver or friend driving the car.

Can't you make it so that the threads only engage at a single point, instead of at multiple places ? This could ensure that when the cap is totally screwed down, it always aligns to the same spot.

Or just do a few tests and figure out what way the shift pattern should face, then make 2 small alignment marks or dots or anything to mark. they could even be on the threads. If you start it the same way every time it will always line up

Edit: companies also make these:

Would it be easier to have the caps machined to receive a decal or paper circle that would be held in place by a domed acrylic piece which seats flush with the sphere? That may require a small hole in the bottom of the cap to push the paper and dome out; but you could offer any number of images to go in there, and people could design/use their own.

would be easier to ask for input and then design the knob.

a better option might be a delrin knob (multiple colors) with adjustable weights, with the gear pattern engraved in the top cap.

That's when you get your SO to make you a cover for it - this is my Maisonvi knob w/out and w/ cover

In my experience, that only works up to a point. More often than not the input devolves into something akin to, 'I know what's best and it's X' or to the less productive, 'I like X and anyone that disagrees is an idiot'.
There is something to be said for a company that stays true to its vision and creates products to reflect that vision. I recall a few messages in reference to the leather shift knob from Corksport where several people didn't want the shift pattern, I don't recall if I was a part of that conversation, but I am/was among those that would not want the shift pattern. That was before I had given any consideration to things like non-Mazda service techs or valet drivers, so now I can see the value in it. I'm still not sure if I would want it as a permanent fixture, but I can see why some would find it useful.

Good point. That could be really difficult. Maybe we could print it on the front, obviously not as simple to see, but might benefit the valet driver or friend driving the car.
Another option would be to make it a two piece knob, Where the, as someone put it "ribbed for her pleasure", part meets the main ball - make that the point where you put in the weights/spring(have those two piece connect via threads). This would get rid of that unsightly line from the cap, and allow you to screen/etch the gears on top and would allow for a person to align it while screwing the knob onto the shaft - wow that sounds dirty

Definitely a cool design but metal shift knobs just get too hot...I'd love to see a version II design made from delrin. The adjustable weight is very neat!

Good feedback from all! Lots of interesting ideas for if we choose to make some revisions. I doubt we would do the delrin, but I get the concern. Guess we don't think about it getting hot up here in the NW. Ha.

As for the pattern, it would be great if we had a way to do that without having to do a whole redesign, or something that is too confusing for people.

Thanks for the input!

I love this concept. Is there any chance you guys will release one with one less rib? If yes I will definitely buy it!

If it had just one less rib I would've ordered it in a heart beat. Unfortunately I went with a different knob instead

Spencer.... Sticker with shift pattern.... Let us decide to use or not. Plus additional value of +5 HP.

Would have to be a curved type sticker though so no wrinkles...
