hey man, first thanks for documenting this effort. I was thinking doing the same thing to save some weight but not going far as you did :) Primarily taking of the passenger seat, rear seat bottom and rear seat back plus empty out the trunk (spare tire, jack, etc, etc...) completely. Here my questions to you: 1) How does the car behaves after taking out first the passenger seat and then the rear seats with respect to weight distribution. I mean with this following: Are left turns now, with the passenger seat off, more difficult than right turns? 2) How does getting ride of the stuffs in the rear (rear seats, trunk, etc, etc ) affects the weight transfer during racing? I'm really really dying to know how this affects the the cars behaviour.... 3) How does this weight reduction affects the traction on wet pavement? Assuming you have some good performance tires close to the R-S3 from Hankook. Will appreciate your response and others feedback as well. Quote:

2. weight transfer is a topic that can be beaten to death with weight reduction, with my current Coil over setup I can keep most weight transfer on the front end with coils on max in the rear and 50% in the front... I also have a Whiteline anti lift kit to keep the front down. 3. I have Michelin super sports.. had the Hankooks and these run circles around them in the wet and dry. I have yet to have the light rear end lose traction no matter how hard I enter a corner in the wet or dry. - Limited miles doing this @ the current weight. |
Subbed for more awesomeness. |

hmm, I guess I'll have to try that. |
hood weight dturboman - did you ever discover the weight of the stock hood? I have read conflicting reports from various aftermarket manufacturers about the stock hood weight. Great post, appreciate the effort. |
Super interested in how much the ac equipment weighs! I wanna do the alternator relocate and ac delete Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk |
Wow... speechless... you sir, don't fuck around. I will remember this for when I finally transition my ms3 to track use only. Thanks for the in depth thread. |
Since this thread got resurrected, Awesome. You are my hero. Done a lot of the same things to mine (because race car obviously). Rear seats, carper, plastic, metal, spare, balance shaft, even cut a coil off my springs for weight (lol), wiper, .... Makes my Vdyno look great since I don't know the weight reduction and just kept it the same |
^^said cut coil for weight^^ rotfl haha that's funny right there. What does your car weight in at? I want to weight reduce so bad. Currently the family mobile but hopefully nothing but track car soon. |
Never weighed it. I should take all the things out of my garage and put them on the scale to see. I'm guessing somewhere around 300 lbs I cheated and added back about 1 lbs of sound deadening.... |
Just roll through a truck stop haha |
