2013 MSF Calendar photo submission time!!!

It's time to start taking those pictures for the 2013 MSF Calendar people! I'm going to print these in a different way this year using a commercial printer and binding them myself (comb binding vs saddle stitched last year) so that we can save some money, get you a cheaper/better product, and hopefully get more sales. Photo submissions will be closed the last day of August!!!

Take a look at the winners from last year. How the shots were taken, backgrounds used, etc and try to emulate them with your own touch. That's probably going to be your best shot for winning a spot this year. Here's last year's winners 2012 Calendar Winners

Since the "meat" of the photo submission ideas will be the same, I've copied/pasted from last year's photo submission post. READ IT!!!

A few basic things: Make your picture submissions as high DPI/res as your camera will take. It's much easier for us to make a picture smaller and crop what's unneeded than it is to make a small picture larger. If it's too large to post here without side scrolling, then post a thumb and link it to the bigger picture. Small fuzzy pics and driveway shots, you're totally wasting your time. I'll be collecting these pictures and hoarding them until we reach as many finalists as I can deem fit to choose from, then posting for your help in final voting. I'm having a friend (professional photographer) help me narrow it down to the best shots worthy of having in a calendar, so it's not necessarily the most modified car that gets in. If you have a stock MS3/MS6 and an SLR and MOST IMPORTANTLY you know how to use it, you just may get yourself a month.

When you take your pics, take several from slightly different angles and maybe even several from one spot. You never know when your flash will hot spot on something and totally ruin a shot. Submit them all if you like.

Watch your backgrounds for distractions. No trees or poles "growing" out of the roof of the car, no litter in the shot, tire tracks, grease stains, etc.

Use a tripod. The most expensive SLR can take crappy shots if hand held, while I've seen great shots from a $100 point and shoot that were ready for magazine covers.

Play with the ISO and macro settings. Even the cheap point and shoot cameras these days offer these settings to make better pictures. Lower ISO for stationary objects will produce a photo with less noise and much better color quality. Macro settings can be a cool effect to shorten the depth of field and bring focus to a close up item, such as a wheel or brake package, or piece of trim, etc.

Shoot with the sun at your back, but not necessarily in direct sunlight. A bright but somewhat cloudy day can be a much better opportunity to get "the shot" because most colors tend to wash out in direct sunlight.

You must own the picture you are posting! Pictures of other peoples' cars, or someone else's picture of your car will not be accepted. I will not accept water marked images.

Give me HIGH RES pics!!! You will NOT be considered for the calendar until you do so! I will not chase down high res shots "if I'm chosen". Either provide your best shots, or don't bother posting. I had nearly 500 submissions last year and 180 or so were of worthy resolution or subject matter. Let's make it even better this year!

We're lucky in NJ in regards to vanity plates. $50 one time fee and $46.50 annual registration, which applies to all types of plates for cars.

It's a Greddy Ti-C CBE. Too loud for it's own good, but I love it.
