Default Anti-lock Brakes CAN U2023 Fault received from external node

Every day on my way home from work for the last week, in more or less the same area on the highway the loss of traction light comes on on the dash. It doesn't happen going to work. WEIRD.

I checked the error with Autoenginuity software and it shows Anti-lock Brakes CAN U2023 Fault received from external node .

If I restart the car the dash light is gone.

I checked all 4 wheel speed sensors and they all have clean connections and a clear view to the axle (front) or tone ring (back).

Any tips? 2007 with 107k miles. Only engine mod is CAI.

A U2023 points towards a Keyless control module.

I have no records for a DSC/ABS module

Alpine,

Why would a keyless control module trigger the loss of traction symbol on the dash?

CAN BUS (Computer Area Network) is the digital network that car companies use to interconnect systems with less wiring. The ECU receives info from various modules (AWD, ABS, TSC, Keyless/SmartKey etc) to help it make calculations based on conditions.

I am just getting into learning about CAN myself, so I am not much help, but I believe there is no real problem with the TCS system, but you may have a bad or failing connection between CAN connected units. TCS might be getting confused or going into limp mode because of misinformation (possibly from keyless).

Clear as mud?

"U2023 Fault Received From External Node RCM U2023 is set when a module receives invalid network data from another module with a faulted input."

Suggestion: Reset codes, then hit your TCS button (cancel system) and see if code reappears on your drive.

S-A,

Thanks for your thoughts and info.

I am able to reset the codes with Autoenginuity, in fact the loss of traction light doesn't come on when I restart. But after a 5 - 10 miles its not coming back on. Faster than previously.

Why doesnt the system tell me which module is giving the bad input/signal?

Would the dealer just switch out the PCM or how is this issue addressed?

I believe because all of the info is piggy backed across the network at the same time, the PCM dosent have the ability to self diagnos

Yo my car is buggin out. Its throwing the CEL light now and I could feel a slight hesitation at highway speed for a maybe 20 seconds.

I pulled the codes and its throwing a bunch codes. Some are old some are new.

I mean what the hell am I supposed to do with this info? Am I supposed to assume the computer itself is malfunctioning?

Do you have a remote start or alarm installed?

The interface modules tap into the medium speed and high speed can networks and can fuck shit up if its bad/miswired.

Check your wires going into the ecu by the intake. Unplug and re-seat the connectors for the ecu. Disconnect the battery then wait a while for the system to drain power out and reconnect.

Start by checking ground connections and battery connections.

I would also chase that sun load sensor short...that could be throwing things off...short circuit bad!

Nope, no alarm or remote start. My radar detector (worthless noisemaker) is wired in to overhead light 12v and a Parrot Bluetooth connected to stereo but not spliced in. Those have been there forever.

I have had problems with wires going into the plug at the primary computer (PCM, or ECU) and have had to swap out a few. Protect your PCM the Wiring Harness from Corrosion

That sun load sensor short sounds like bullshit because the CEL was coming on before and I wasn't getting that code.

I'm gonna disconnect battery, check primary ground (which is right on top of body where the hood meets the body yes?). I do keep an eye on that connector and Deoxit intermittently as a result of my past issues.

I do believe I figured out the cause of these random error codes. I of course suspected the harness near the computer because I've had issues with corrosion of terminals and plugs.

This time I found the band clamp for the cold air intake had rubbed against 4 of the harness wires enough to expose the wires and was shorting them causing random error codes.

I know I'm not the first person this has happened to.

You can see the worn insulation and exposed wires here:

In case you dont know where Im referring to, here is a different view:

Check your harnesses guys.
