I know im late on this but 4k is too much for a stock block and for that much money you can build yourself. there is no reason to spend 4k on a motor when 6k gets you a motor that wont fail. People have bent rods on completely stock engines no tunes or parts before and others have blown up just daily driving. Built engines don't do this ....

one more thing, my wife understands why I have to build quality setups and do the job right. you can spend 4k now and blow it up and have to do it again later. So she would understand that the cheaper option wont last.

I would also break it down like this, according to your goals. do you absolutely want to striclty Daily drive this and never really get on the gas? (not likely)

If you want to mod at all and run the car going built should be your only target, if you don't want to spend 6k, build it yourself...

Most are going with the S4 over the 3071 due to the costs difference. I believe the power levels are about the same but I'm betting the GT's last longer. I was lucky and found a used 3 month old GT3071 for $1,000. Kid didn't port the hotside, a must on this turbo to avoid boost creep, tuner stopped tuning him and told him to remove and port but the guy was loving 26lbs but his stock rods took offense. The rods had the last say and he needed to sell fast to get money for a new motor. Turbo has been on the car now for 2.5 years most of which was on the stock block but went on my built motor back in November.

I'm going to piggyback off this post. Looking for pricing on a built motor. I also have a rod that left me with a gaping hole in my block. Message me or reply with the needed info to contact the company's. Thanks in advance.

Wow this thread was over a year ago when you guys convinced me to go with wetz for an engine build. And now, over 8 months after sending a full $6200 to Christopher Wetzel, I am being forced to file small claims suit in the state of Illinois. Quite sad. Should of gone with a reputable engine builder.

He dissolved his LLC and ran with my money. You havent seen him post since I gave him notice of suit being filed. Currently awaiting court date and gathering all my receipts and communication records. He's obviously not a stand up guy.

Plenty of contact. He likely got into bad situation in life and needed the money. Just bad timing. Sluntworks LLC was dissolved in December of last year, my payment was completed by money order in late October I believe almost 2 months before. Conversation continued all the way up until March when he just kept apologizing for not being able to ship. In May I flew to chicago to resolve in person, gave him 48 hours to do so and he decided he was too busy. I gathered paperwork for suit and flew home. No contact since.

Wasn't there another somewhat recent thread about parts he had sold not being shipped for months and months? I think he popped back out of the woodwork to settle that one.

I paid him ~5k to build my motor, it fell through as well. Although in my case I did get my money back without having to file a claim.

Just got done talking to Micha, a friend of Wetz, and I think it's pretty clear he just really needed $6200 at this point in his life more than he needed a MSF account or his LLC. It's unfortunate, because I whole heartedly believed he was a solid guy and so many of you MSF members vouched for that.

I should have gone public a lot sooner with this. But just as I told Chris all along, I'm not the type of person to threaten and poke at people until I get what I want. I gave him enough chances, now suit is filed, and NOW I can go public with it letting everyone know the damage that has already been done. If any administrator cares enough, I am happy to email full communication records and proof of payment, proof of him admitting to not delivering an engine, and whatever else you need. But at this point I honestly don't care much if he's banned, I'll just collect on a judgment over the next 5 years or however long it takes.

This experience may have altered my thoughts on MSF and car forums alike, but that doesn't mean I am leaving or that I won't be here seeking and contributing knowledge for however much longer I have my beloved Speed. Much love to you all.

Honestly I want to personally apologize. I will admit that I vowed for Chris, because I consider him a good friend and when it comes down to it he does know what he's doing. This is not the Chris I know and I don't know anything of his situation or what's going on with him. I still think he's a good guy, just made a mistake and I completely understand you feeling polar opposite on that opinion, I would too in this situation with someone I didn't know.

If you don't plan to push for much power, a remanufactured block from Edge is your cheapest and most reliable option. Those guys are great to work with too. If you want to be able to beat on the k04 early in the powerband or go with a larger turbo down the road, building something with forged internals is the way to go.

If I can answer any further questions to help you determine an end goal or what route you want to take, feel free to reach out via email or here.

Hopefully you're back up and running quickly no matter which path you take.
Hey do you have the address for these guys at Edge
if so shoot it to me
thanks

damn, you promised him you'd file suit on 5/3/2017, and claimed on 7/11/2017 that suit was filed, and now nearing a year later you haven't filed suit.

two dishonest guys who can't keep promises.

what a trainwreck.
