Default Cluth Petal Sticks

Hi Everyone,

I have a 07 Mazdaspeed3 and it has been driving completely fine till I ripped it home yesterday and attempted to start her later in the day. My clutch petal will stay in whatever position I put it in, till I flip it back with my hand manually. Yesterday I ended up having to roll my car back in my driveway a little and saw that it's clearly leaking something, therefore I would be surprised if they aren't related.

I'm planning on lifting her up today and try to figure this out.

Anyone have any previous experience with a situation like this? If so, any information would be greatly appreciated, like where I should be looking or really anything!

Thanks,
Kyle

UPDATE:

I found the leak, but I'm not sure what this is so please help me identify this part!

This video is when the clutch is in the normal depressed position
https://youtu.be/Y4ymB9EtMb0

This video is when the clutch is in the stuck to the floor position
https://youtu.be/yBnDKOZ4Css

I assume all I need is a new one of these things and some more fluid, but if I'm wrong please let me know!

You need a new clutch slave cylinder. Cheap and fairly easy to fix.

Thank you for the quick reply, I just received my new one in the mail, I'm going to attempt to replace it soon. This may be a stupid question, but what fluid do I need to fill? I lost a good amount to driveway and assume I will loose even more when I try to replace the part.

Thanks

I'm going to replace it now but am having a difficult time finding instructions on how to replace it. Can I simply let the fluid leak out into a bucket when i take the part off, put the new one on and replace the missing brake fluid?

Dot 3 brake fluid.

Remove a clip located on the pipe seal where it goes into the old slave cyl.

Pull the hydraulic line out of the old slave. Unbolt the old one. Fill the new one up with fluid.

Bolt the new one in and simply insert the hydraulic line into the new slave. It should snap in.

Fill the brake reservoir to the top and start bleeding the system. The bleed valve is on the slave it self. You tube how to bleed brakes. Dont get any on the paint.

Its fun... brake fluid is lots of fun.

After you have brake fluid all over your hands use powdered clorine pool tabs to clean it off.....

The brakes and clutch share the same reservoir. The clutch fluid is contained in the rear of the reservoir. Just bleed and check often.

You don't "need" a SS clutch line. Its nice to have if you're running a heavier pressure plate vs. stock. An oem line is fine. If yours looks ok I wouldn't sweat it.

i strongly advise getting a 20$ endoscope from amazon for cell/tablet/pc and using it to see the slave cyl movement when this occurs, also if u got for new slave, plz do urself a favor and make sure u get a ss clutch line, their 25$ and u will save urself the intermitted sticking from hot days letting the line ballon up, besides tht i would check to see if u can stick the endoscope past the rubber clutch fork boot and make sure nothing funky is happening in there that stops the pedal being properly pushed back up... i have had this issue come and go forever, i actually have a line i want to install, i just got good at pulling the pedal up from under it with my foot when it occurs cuz it isnt too these days heh... i wish you luck, if i change the line and this still happens, i am going to be completely mindblown heh

Make sure you get the little rubber nipple out of the old slave. The nipple comes with the line not the slave.

If your slave pops again and you haven't fucked up the plunger gasket you can reassemble it but it'll mean you're probably due for a clutch release/throw-out bearing (and a new clutch while you're in there).
