Ok, here's ETS vs. Street Unit. I'm kind of bummed. I had the ETS pegged as a performance gainer with my setup. Everybody wants to see gains whenever they mod. However, I do it for the community so we all learn. I compared BATs/IATs and MAF g/s/volts. There were some minor gains noted, but I would consider them in the noise and within the margin of error.

What this tells me is basically is that an aftermarket top mount is an aftermarket top mount, so you might as well go as cheap as possible. Keep in mind this is with a BNR S3, so a k04 is even less likely to see any benefit. No reason to buy a $600 TMIC when a $300 TMIC gives equivalent performance for our cars. I am certain the CP-E would be the same.

At this point I think I've exhausted TMIC testing for our cars. This is what I learned regarding TMICs:

1) Go cheap on the TMIC
2) Go meth injection

Wow, very close in comparison. Glad I didn't spend the extra dough on the ETS. Not saying the ETS isn't worth it, but that margin of benefit isn't quantifiable for me to spend that much more money for.

Nice Job!

The ETS isn't worth it.

It's a beautiful piece, it looks amazing and very well constructed, but when it doesn't show any gains over an intercooler $200+ cheaper, it isn't worth it.

From my understanding (and I could be way off) the ETS is a double stack design so it creates a little bit more restriction but cools a little bit better. actually just swapped from the MS3 Gen1 ETS to a MS3 Gen2 CP-E and was surpise to find that the CP-E one was slightly longer/wider and the same thickness as the ETS. I got a new log this morning and wont get to compare them until I get home but just going by the AP, the CP-E flows 5g/s faster on the same stretch of road, same direction and 3 degrees warmer.

I also ported the CP-E slightly and opened the MS3 Gen2 colde pipe up as much as I could so all and all I would say it doesn't really make a difference which TMIC you get as long as it isn't stock and there is no reason to waste money on the $400 cold pipe that has been popping up on here lately.

If you were running a Gen 1, you weren't running a shroud right? Were you running a shroud on the CP-E? 5g/s is pretty close to the noise floor to quantify any gains.

My experiences may not match those of a Gen 2 since your hoodscoop is far superior to my hood ducting.

Modified the shroud of the Gen1 to work on my Gen2, so shroud on both. I forgot to mention that the CP-E was also heavier then the ETS.

The amount mine will potentially cool versus yours is different but I was adding to your comment about how an aftermarket TMIC is an aftermarket TMIC. Comparing two different brands on my car just helps support what you saw comparing multiple brands on your car.

I planned on comparing the MS6 noodle cold pipe to the MS3 Gen2 cold pipe but 100 degrees out side and remembering how much of a pain the stupid clamp on the throttle body is, I decided against it. the different cold pipes also position the BPV differently and didn't feel like messing with that either.

This thread has me wondering if spending $300+ on an aftermarket TMIC is even worth it at this point. I know any aftermarket unit is better than stock, but none seem to be a hige amount better to justify the expense. I don't track my car & I'm still on the K04.

I think it all depends where you live and drive. If you are in a hot environment and stop and go driving you will not defeat heat soak. If you drive longer but spirited then the upgraded TMIC will help with the heat. What I have noticed living in LA is that by the time I get to the good roads my engine is well heated and I cannot get the temp down. I have been thinking about adding hood louvers to try and draw more heat out.
