Default Failure

So I was taking my side molding off today and it was going great, heated each one up and did it carefully and got 3 of the 4 off without leaving any residue. Then I got to the last one and did the same thing I had done for all the others... Turns out the adhesive had started to somehow eat through the clear coat or something and took the clear coat with it...

Yea, picture was taken from my phone, but there are big chips of clear coat on the moldings and you can feel the rough raw paint were it came off.

Bummer if it took the paint. One side of mine came of clean as can be (wife's hair drier and fishing line), the other left a ton of sticky crap that looked like that, took like an hour with the goo-gone and polish to get it clean.

Is a bunch of that still tape at least, like it looks? Might barely be noticeable cleaned the rest of the way, but bummer all the same.

(Off-topic - I stuck the moldings together after I took them off and they made great play-swords for my kids, lol)

Yes lots of it is tape, there's a lot of clear missing so I figured no point in trying to clean it off when I'm going to get it fixed anyways.

I have always used thicker fishing line and just do a sawing motion up and down. Being careful to pull towards me and the direction i want to go.

Def clean it first and take pics of the after. Sucks though, they'll prolly what, just paint that door? It'll cost more than you want to spend, but shouldn't be too bad. Sorry man, you're the first I've seen this happen to out of 100s of guys.
