Default Fuel Cap Stuck/Broken

Searched and was surprised I didn't see any threads on this?

I searched google as well and found a few on regular Mazda3 forums.

My fuel cap got stuck today, and I broke the cap off trying to open it. The little white part that seals the filler neck is now stuck in there at a slight angle. I have no idea how this happened, the last time I got gas I don't recall putting it on like that.

Anyways, I need to take it to Mazda tomorrow. Is there any chance that they'll cover the repair? I read about it being a TSB for the Mazda3? I don't know if that could apply to the Speed as well.

Also worth noting is the rubber cord that the fuel cap hangs on was cut, leading me to assume that this happened before.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago. I have an 08 ms3. I'm very careful with the way I place the cap back in and only go 1 click past right. I basically spun the black lid off and the white "plug" was left at an angle. I haven't replaced it yet because the white piece still screws down tight with the o ring. Let me know what happens if you try to go the tsb route.

I ended up getting pliers and forcing it off. I just went to the dealership and bought a new one, it was about $50.

Same thing happened, it somehow got angled in there. Guy at the dealership said he used to sell 3-4 of them a day.

Anyways if you decide to that just be careful not to get any plastic pieces in the fuel tank.

I tried that, it was really jammed in there and I needed gas. It was that or nothing.

I had to use a screwdriver to get this out. Ordered one online for like $10 to replace it.

lol at hulk smash. trust me, my cap wasn't going in either direction easily. it was a struggle, and my hand could barely fit around the plug that was left. my hand was all sorts of cut up from trying to twist broken plastic.

Same thing just happened to me. I could still use the black part of the cap to unscrew the plug enough to get my fingers under it. Dealer wanted $40 for a new one. O'Rileys had it for $15.

Default Fuel Cap Stuck/Broken

You guys ever see those gas caps that you screw in once and then it has like a stiff spring loaded door on the filler cap? What's the verdict on those things, crap?

I figure if I gotta buy a new one, maybe I'll buy one that I only have to screw in one time.

It's cool and I actually prefer it that way, I see cars come with that as something to boast or something nowadays, but I wouldn't bother on a car like ours that didnt come with it
