Default MAZDA'S NEW HCCI skyavtiv-X engine!!!

This opens up so many doors for Mazda...

It has me wondering, with this new more efficient engine, will Mazda bring back the speed models?

May I also add, some of the new engines will be supercharged.

Why are you so excited about superchargers? Turbos are honestly the way to go.

I'm just glad it isn't a naturally aspirated engine.

That's because turbos have proven to be much more efficient and effective.

I'm sure the Mazda Engineers originally went with a turbo setup in design. Superchargers must have been better for this specific type of engine and what they were trying to achieve or else they wouldn't have used one. I'm excited to see how this engine performs. I bet it's comp ratio is crazy high

I would put money on they went with superchargers for cost savings. They're a small company and don't have the money to play around like other brands. I just feel if they put a supercharger in a new mazdaspeed that would really suck. Especially since it would be a 4 cylinder.

I doubt with our previous speeds being turbo they would do a supercharged speed car...

not sure why they'd go through all this trouble to make a more efficient engine and then bog it down with a parasitic supercharger.

From what I read about these engines cylinder temps are critical to have them run right. I would imagine with a supercharger it is easier to control/ predict intake air temps. But I could be totally wrong.

Did some reading. Cylinder temps AND cylinder pressure are both critical to keep under control. A positive dispacement supercharger works decently well for maintaining a consistent pressure.

They aren't looking for power with this car I don't think, efficiency is key. Like aforementioned a supercharger is easier to monitor intake air temps then a turbo car is, I'm sure they have somehow figured out how to make it extremely efficient or else they wouldn't be producing it... tbh I'm excited cause it will be unique I'm certainly interested... although my wife's next car (we always have one new daily driver) will be a grand Cherokee with a hemi lol, that's what she wants :p

With intake temps and pressures being so critical to control, is this potentially an engine with no aftermarket...ever?

If it that vital probably not, or it will be very limited.

Alls I gotta say is they better hit it out of the park with the new speed3 lol.

Due to there current ratings in other car classes they should be able too...

You are totally right. Mazda wants to achieve hybrid like mpg with a gasoline engine. The new engine is pretty exciting for Mazda and I think performance is pretty low on their priority list. Supposedly these engines are supposed to be 30% more efficient. That is a huge jump.

Plus even toyota used the skyactiv engine, and now they are building the factory together in US.

2005 Mazda 3 SP23: mods include rusty quarter panels and grinding 3rd gear. It does have a fusion motor, so I guess that's a mod too.
