(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score So I was thinking this morning while driving to work, kmac is making 500whp on stock internals. There are several of us making 400+whp on stock internals. Why is it so much riskier than honda guys who seem to make the same on stock internals or more with apparently fewer issues than us? So I was thinking of what a turbo k-block dyno looks like. pte5557 Note: Peak torque comes in after 5500rpm, but maintains flat. Laggy, but a LOT of rpm to play with. Clearly this differs from our plots where torqe hits HARD and earlier in the powerband. Obviously these are diffferent motors, I'm not disputing that. Drew's torque hits hard early on, levels out nicely. My point is, what about moving the powerband to the right a little bit, allowing the turbo to spool a little more naturally, or using a slightly larger turbo than you'd normally get, let it spool, so that peak torque doesn't come in at 4000rpm on stock block. Move the powerband to the right, potentially increase horsepower on stock internals, and still make decent torque without the potential of bending rods at lower rpm? Anyone get where I'm going with this or am I on the wrong track? My thoughts: Cams to move the powerband over. Adjustments to VVT, less timing way down low in early boost, etc.

| Not Ranked : 0 score I thought we already knew that the stock internals hated low rpm torque? |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Some of those thoughts are shared, but if talking about the early damage the k04 did to some of the gen1's, it is hard to argue that 300 wtq @ 3000 rpm's is what did it (bent rods). Eventually, the high HP guys are hitting 400, 500 and now 600 hp, but they are running @ least the same torque the k04 does @ 3000 rpm. |
