(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Turbo fitment issue, but this is on a Mazda5, not a speed. I'm looking for input/brainstorming ideas from the MSF braintrust. Note: If you want to ask why I am putting a turbo on a mazda5 (or just call me a dumbass), please PM me or search my post history. I feel I've answered that question enough times, and would prefer to not clutter this thread with that conversation again. So here is the issue (also see pictures): This distribution block for the brake lines is going to interfere with the IWG actuator on my turbo by about 0.75 inches. Is this distribution block in the way for BT installs on ms3’s, or is this a mazda5 unique feature? I measure 10" from exhaust flange to the farthest back portion of the IWG actuator on the turbo (picture perspective makes it look longer, but it is 10"). I could maybe gain 0.25" by cutting and rewelding the actuator bracket, or slotting the actuator mounting holes. It is about 9.0 or 9.25" from the exhaust flange on the engine to the distribution block on the firewall. Obviously I can unbolt that bracket, but I don't know how much I'm going to be able to reposition that block with 6 brake lines running into it. Thoughts? With time I could work around this, but I am intent on installing the turbo this weekend – so I’m reaching out to the group to ask what you think. Top view, you can see the exhaust manifold stud near the bottom of the pic, and the distribution block is partially hidden in this view, up against the firewall, hidden behind a fuel line bracket. Here is an off-axis view from the top where you can see the distribution block better. Here is on off-axis view further to the side. Here is a view as far to the side as possible. And here is the side view of the turbo and the IWG actuator which is the point of interference. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score That block doesn't exist in the 3s so we haven't had to deal with it. Can the block be undone and relocated? I'm guessing it won't move much being attached to hard lines but maybe you can get just enough to clear the turbo. This is a situation where an EWG turbo really would have come in handy

You are correct that EWG would have been a good choice in retrospect. My research on turbo'ing NA mz3's did not reveal any issues related to this dist block - or IWG actuator clearance in any form - so I'm thinking this may be a mz5 specific issue. I had just too much to do last night and was unable to unbolt the bracket and see how much play in those lines. I'm afraid that it will be not much. Last edited by sac02; 07-09-2014 at 08:34 AM. | |

| Not Ranked : 0 score I read through this yesterday and was going to suggest and EWG turbo until I got to the part where you already had the turbo. So that was out. I think you need to move it down, not sideways. There will be a decent amount of movement in that block vertically since all of the lines run laterally, if you need just a bit of clearance then you may very well be able to get it just by bending the lines a bit. Brake line is quite flexible and since it's never run in dead straight shots anywhere you can often flex it to get some clearance
