Didn't even get that far. They do the same thing we do to verify, listen and if needed pull the valve cover.

I wasn't going to pay them to confirm what I knew if it wasn't covered under warranty. I'm going to call around reputable shops and get quotes.

BMW-MINI just settled with a class of Mini Cooper owners in NJ that sued for the exact same issue. BMW will repair for FREE, pay for past repairs, or pay XX dollars for cars that were sold with destroyed motors AND extend the warranty 7 years or 100k miles from time of tensioner replacement.

Hey guys I'm currently trying to get this repair covered. It seems like some of you had it covered even out of waranty. Any tips for me? Mazda wont budge and my dealership said call mazda. Got nowhere after being on hold for 40 minutes

If the dealer says no out of warranty you are probably SOL. My local dealer told me they would have been flexible if I was out of warranty but I brought mine in around 69900 miles so I had no problem getting them to cover it.

I'm hearing a rattle for about half a second before it smooths out. Kinda sounds like when you change the oil in a car and start it up for the first time.
