What happens if your OCC completely fills up?

I notice that in the winter months my oil catch can fills up so much faster than the Spring and the Summer. I don't particularly enjoy crawling underneath my car in -20c temperatures to drain it every month.

Does anyone know what the affects would be if I was late draining it and it filled up completely?

For what it is worth I have a JBR catch can with the check valve.

What may also be bad is the whole can freezing at those temps with a large water concentration... completely blocked pcv I would expect higher crankcase pressure and oil out of the valve cover port into the intake.

I had a slug of ice build up in the PVC hose to the can, causing my worn turbo seals to fail. All the car was doing was idling when it happened. I also had oil coming out around the VVT actuator connector. The car drank enough oil to no longer register on the dipstick before I walked out the garage to a cloud of white smoke and little black dots all over the car.

I also had my car after a lot of rain start to sputter and stumble, I drained the can and problem was solved. However the engine was basically sipping on Combustion engine vomit...Mmmm, it does go well with chicken!

I would hazard that unless you live in the interior, the temps dont drop far enough below freezing and for long enough to create a "dry air" condition and you will constantly be creating condensation for your can to collect.

Thanks everyone, looks like I need to check this every month during the winter and then back to every oil change for the rest of the year.
