Yes that will work. Although if you want a FMIC one day, the piping might not fit with the cold air intake. But if I remember right, the MS CAI is two piece so I think you might be able to turn it into a short ram, maybe not, I'm not 100% sure. @eric@edgeautosport, can you confirm this by chance?

Either way, yes, you just need to replace the TIP with the correctly fitted one for that intake.

Im really having a hard time deciding on the turbo. I was originally looking at the gt3071r, but would like to evdntually make just under 500whp(around 450-475) yet still make around 4 while on stock internals, without having to buy another turbo down the road. Would you suggest gt3076r? Id like to stick with the proven gt series. The gtx just seems hit or miss.

You wanna make just under 500hp? How is the gtx3076 overkill? Sounds like the perfect turbo for what you're trying to achieve.

JP you are correct on turning it into an sri and he might be able to run the cai with a fmic just depends on the fmic he gets.

The MSCAI does have 2 pieces and you can turn it into a SRI. Now i have some questions. Whats the advantage or going with an ewg? Im looking at the steedspeed mani but i dont know which one i want. And can i get a turbo without the iwg?

Yes, T3 with vband or any other design, you name it we can get it. Not sure if you know about the EWG turbine housing with the stock Mazda style discharge flange (where the turbo meets the downipe) but we can get that too.

Here's a picture of that.

Externally Wastgated Turbine Housing for Mazdspeed 3 - GT3071R/GT3076R : atpturbo.com

Obviously, this is for a stock style exhaust manifold as well.

This is a stupid question, but I haven't been running synthetic on my car. I got about 19K miles on the car (going in for an oil change in a week or two). If I'm going to possibly run a GT3071R by next summer, would it be safe to switch to synthetic now to prepare for it?

You are running 5w30 at least right?

reason I ask is because if you are taking your car to a quick oil change place, they may not know or care and will put in 5w20 like they do for all the regular mazda3's that come through there.

Ya, I have the right oil going in. I make sure of it haha. I just really never thought of running synthetic since I didn't expect to really modify this car much.

Hey, it's my first turbo car. Give me a break. Still learning as I go along. Synthetic is going in when I change the oil in a week.

Well it's good to run synthetic regardless. The synthetic handles heat better and heat is what you get with a turbo.

Working within my estimated budget, I can't afford to get a BT and FMIC at the same time. Well, maybe the CS FMIC. But I'm looking for opinions on running say a CS TMIC with a GTX BT. I know it will be prone to heat soak but would it be sufficient otherwise? I would prefer to get the BT in the car ASAP and then add a FMIC down the road, even if I have to run it at lower boost levels.

I would avoid the CS FMIC at this time if you want to go BT. Their "small core" version is too small for a BT, and their "large core" version removes the crash bar - you don't want that. Save up for either cp-e or UR w/crashbar option.

If you run with a TMIC you should be fine, although your BAT's are going to be pretty high. As you said, keep a conservative tune.

I'm running GTX3071 with CS TMIC. BAT's can get a little high when its hot out but it works just fine for now. Plus you get a little faster spool...

You could always go pg pipes with godspeed core like I did...$450 and my bats are nice and low

I'm considering selling my pte 5557 and buying a gtx3071...could you run the gtx as ewg?

Tapawho?

Ya I may go that route. How did you secure your core to the car? I'm in the works of getting a crash bar fabbed so I can run more than a 6.5" core.

At the moment, no. I'm putting it off to buy some camera/video equipment and get a side job shooting/editing videos at my buddies production company to gather funds faster for my build. I am most likely going to upgrade to a slightly bigger core though. I am pretty sure that sized core can handle that much power. Don't quote me on that though because that is all speculation.

Can someone pm me the price for the gtx3071 with and without the atp ewg hotside?

I would just need the lines and turbo. I have a mani and dump tube already. I still have to see if I can get a buy for my current turbo.

Nope, picking up a tial wastegate from a buddy sometime soon. Would a 38mm be good for the gtx? Or 44mm? Because on the pte 5557 you need to run a 44mm.

Tapawho?

why do you say you need to run a 44mm on the 5557? imo 38mm is plenty even for the 5557

I didn't read up on what your setup is going to be but if you are using the EWG turbine housing, the only wastegate you can use is the 38mm. It's flanged for that already. If you're using it on the mani, either one will obviously work but the 38mm is really all you need for a 3071/76 even for a GTX.

Looks like you need a boost controller, new TIP for Big Turbo, and with the UR FMIC, you'll probably need a new coupler for the turbo to hot pipe.

Hmm. So with the 3071 turbo and those that should be about what 3000 for the parts at the most then depending on if I install myself or not maybe more for the labor from wherever.

You could always have a willing MSF member come to your location and get them to help you install it at the cost of a couple of pizzas and a plane ticket (round trip)... lol!!
