No it's not required, there's plenty of guys running the stock seals but it's a good idea. I advise most people to do the Seals, TIGS, and catch can/block off all at the same time and anything else in the intake mani area when it's off. Maybe even port and polish the mani

Hey guys, I know there is some discrepancy on this in the past but I have talked to ATP turbo and they tell me they are all a .72 A/R hotside. So I just called and spoke with a lady at ATP and she said the hotsides for mazda were all .72ar also.

Speaking of intake manifolds, if Im taking mine off I might as well upgrade too like you said.

Have you used any of the Grimmspeed IMs you have on your site?

Im running 20psi on a PERM tune with the K04 and at times it gets to be a handful. Cant imagine with a GTX3071R

The only thing that really bugged me about the k04 is how it lost steam up top. That was the biggest thing for me was pulling 24psi to 7k. feels amazing

I agree.

Im pulling the intake manifold out next week and will be installing JBRs TIGs and EGR delete. I guess I need to call you guys and get the SAFE-seals coming too.

My only concern is reliability with BT. I only have 11,075 miles on the car and pretty much unless I stock out completely my engine warranty is fucked. Being my DD I dont need it blowing up. I know alot of that reliability comes from a proper tune and from what I can tell Lex did a good job on the PERM tune

Not that I know of but I was advised while I had everything off it would be a good idea to upgrade.

But to answer your specific question, there's no doubt the 2871 is better than stock. It's dual ball bearing, spools about as fast, and flows more. You don't have to sell your ETS TMIC in any scenario. There are plenty of guys with stock and big turbo running TMIC.

1) will a bolt on gt35/gtx35 fit without issue with atp flange?
Maybe a custom intercooler pipe?

2) is there such thing as a stock location t3 flanged turbo without requiring significant moddifications? Aside from vband downpoop?

3) what would be required to run one of those crazy hta turbos?

1) Ive never installed one of the drop in 35r atp turbos but I dont see why you would run in to any problems beside the compressor housing contacting the block with the .70ar compressor housing. Since I dont know an exact answer I will call atp tomorrow morning first thing and find out. As far as any gt series turbos go, depending if you have a tmic or fmic all you need to fit one of those turbos is a different coupler from compressor to hot pipe.

2) As far as stock location t3 yes all you need is a new v band dp. My current setup is a t3 with a titled ss mani and the fitment is not easy by any means but it can be done.

3) running those hta turbos is no different from the 30r turbos just depending on your turbo size you choose if you need a tilted manifold or not.

You won't regret going big turbo. The first time you get to do a pull and your still being forced into the back of your seat after 5500rpms, you will understand why.

I suggest while you have the intake mani off to go ahead and install a 3bar map sensor. You will need to get the sensor and the pigtail connector to make it work but it will be so much easier to do with the intake mani off (I regret not doing mine when I switched out manis).

Oh and I've been running the corksport TMIC with my GTX3071 with good results. A fmic would be better, but the corksport tmic is working just fine for now while its cold out.

I tried doing research but haven't come up with much on why you need an upgraded map sensor...I've just seen all the bt guys do it, some with 3.5 bar sensors. I know it has something to do with boosted air temps or something. That's all what I've read, anyone want to shed some knowledge on it for me?

Its pretty much just so you can read what your actual boost is in a datalog. For instance, I know right now that because of my 3.5" intake I'm creeping to 25psi at redline. In all my logs, the boost caps off at 22.6psi. Once I install my 3bar map sensor, I will be able to see the exact boost I'm getting in the log and it will no longer just be a guess based off a quick glimpse at the boost gauge.

Stock map sensor is a 2.5bar. It will only read to about 22.5psi. 3 and 3.5 bar bosch sensors are a direct replacement provided you do the scaling for the AP to read.

But that lends me to a question. If you change the scaling will this only be read in datalogs or on the AP? I assume yes, and digital signals coming from the ecu will still read the stock scaling (ie dashhawk)

Well that's a good thing to know seeing as I am going to be running 26psi after my build is dialed in. Thanks for the info! I couldn't find shit searching lol. I have found the threads about the bosch sensors.

Since I am running the stock map sensor I just have a really good boost gauge. The stock map sensor is good for about 32psi but it is horribly inaccurate. like 86 said you need the 3 bar to have the correct scalars to read accurately on the AP or DH

Well I have a boost gauge waiting to be installed, other than that I probably won't be using the ap to monitor boost. But I guess it would help for tuning with accurate data logs.

I dont use the ap to monitor boost wither but yes you want the correct psi to show on your logs for the best possible tune.

The only reason I say this is the way the steedspeed tilted manifold relocates the turbo further to the drivers side wheel well and back towards the fire wall it just makes it a pita to work on. After doing a twin scroll swap and my t3 they are getting easier but its one of those thing the more you do the easier it becomes with just simple tips you pick up along the way.

The other problem that you run into when the manifold does that is it makes it really difficult to put the tip on as there are two coolant hard lines that get in the way. You will either have to bend them/modify them with soft lines (whichever you choose) or just get the cpe big tip and thank silicon for being very soft and flexible and it may even become your best friend after that install.
