For example me 3076r at 22psi felt pretty good. At 24psi it felt amazing and when I was running 27psi it really shined. If you plan on sticking with no more than 25psi the 3071 will suit you just fine but its when you get a little greedy with the boost the GTX wheels really shine up top
That is exactly what I was thinking but I wanted to hear it from someone else. Thanks for the info.

So now to my next question - IWG vs. EXWG on the ATP Turbos. With the proper porting, how many folks are successfully (400hp +) running an IWG setup on the ATP turbos? Should it even be considered?

get with someone who has a spool on a mig welder that can do aluminum or someone who has tig, and make your own piping. it's cheap.

I dont think people are having issue running 400whp with iwg anymore. If you plan on shooting for 4xxwhp+ I would look into ewg just so running more psi and boost creep dont become a headache.

Dont get me wrong it can be done on iwg I just prefer ewg all the time

Why don't you go with the GTX now? Isn't the spool quicker?

How much of a PITA is installing the ATP EWG Mod after the fact on an IWG 3071?

To be honest, I don't want to read through 8 pages once again to see if this has been covered already, but... GTX3076R vs GTX3071R ... How much more hp would someone be getting with the 76R than the 71R?

Honestly there are way too many factors to put numbers on this question.

I'd assume the 76 but you're the expert. I know that these cars are pretty damn quick already trust me hahaha. The reason I ask is that during summer's I go to a car gathering every Saturday with my dad and his vette, and they line up lambo's, ferrari's, bmw's, vette's and such... And I more or less dream of competing with some of the slower cars there, or even beating them... Thus soiling their pants.

On stock block - none, because there are going to be other limiting factors such as the stock block strength and the fueling system - unless you add other fueling to your car (WM).
But on a stock block a 3071 will give you a wider boost band than the 3076. Or maybe a 2870 can be even getter on stock block and pump gas.

So a 76R w/ EWG, my mods (+FMIC, BPV, and EBCS) would be too much for the stock block? Cause I've been all for the 71R until a few days ago I thought I might need a bit more go compete with those cars and such ^^^

He's saying you are going to need other supporting mods to make full use of the 3076. Will it still work? Absolutely, but not as efficiently as a 3071 would on pump gas.

^ what he says!
The 3071 turbo's even with IWG can do a lot more than what a stock block can take safely. Yes, the 3076 is capable of even more power in absolute figures, but now it depends what you want to do with your car.
On the other hand with a 3076 you can aim for the same peak power as if you had a 3071 but with less effort for the turbo (read "lower WGDC", meaning the turbo will run cooler as well). But of course you will push the max boost RPM from 3400-3700 on a 3071 to around 4000 with the 3076 which may make your car a bit less nimble in daily traffic.

My personal opinion is that on a MS3 a 3071 is perfect both for a stock block and with a forged one. In a MS6 you have slightly more traction so with a forged block you can use more power in more gears. therefore a 3076 makes more sense.

But if you keep the stock fueling system (meaning you only upgrade the HPFP internals) and run on pump gas, no WMI or high concentrations of ethanol (say, more than 25-30%), going forged is just for the peace of mind when you approach the 360-380bhp limit and also kiss the injector duty cycle limits occasionally. So in this case a 3071/2867/BNR S3 may be exactly what you're looking for.

Regardless of what turbo you choose you will be very hard pressed to keep up with anything in that range on just pump gas.

With my 3076r with 2.5 gallons of e-85 @27psi I would have no problem beating most of those cars listed. Now from a dead stop I would have no chance, but I would embarrass most of them on some good highway pulls.

I believe it would be the same as doing it on any Gen 2, there are lots of good big turbo build threads for the gen 2. I personally bought a gtx3071r that I'm waiting to install and I don't plan on any additional fueling beyond my HPFP, at least not yet.

Also I'm looking at the GTX3076R and I'm not sure which wastegate actuator to get 8, 14, 21psi. Which one would be best for drag and a DD?

Probably 14psi, but dude. It sounds like you need to do a lot more reading before you are ready to go forward with this. Lurk the BT threads and see what others have done and the issues they have run into. After you have read extensively and you know everything that goes into a BT install, contact Edge Autosport and make sure you have everything you need and you're not screwing yourself.

You typically want to run a wg tension of about 1/2 of your max boost level.

On the website there is only one hotside set up for EWG for the GT30R, does that same one work for a GT28R or is there a different one?

@EdgeAutosport.com;
There is no EWG bolt-on setup for the GT28 style turbos unfortunately. However, ATP did recently come out with the GT35 housing. I think we still need to put that up as an option.

14psi is the most popular. 22psi as a base pressure is really too high unless you are always going to run 30psi or more which no one really does. 14 is the one to get for any regular use turbo upgrade.

Hey JP I’m looking at getting a GT3071R from you guys and any supporting mods that I should possibly get like a 3" Inlet to do a safe upgrade to a BT and whatever else you usually recommend. If you could give me an idea of any other items I may have over looked that would be awesome.

I'm currently running a Cobb FMIC, DP, SRI, Cobb AP, Auto X HPFP upgrade and a turbosmart bov/bpv

Thanks for taking the time to help me out.

Boost control (ie. an mbc or an ebc)

I'm making the move from mbc to ebc.

Main reasons for this is that I want to have more control over my torque curve (because stock engine), and have per gear boost control.

Obvoously the upside to an mbc is that it is super easy to tune. You just turn a knob.

Eric,

Can you recommend a turbo for us facing CA smog checks? I just went through one and had to take off my downpipe. So, without having to change a bunch of stuff every two years, what would you recommend?

I have an MS-CAI, which is Carb legal. But I also have a TIP, HPFP and TMIC, all of which is hidden. I can change to a testpipe and catback, but would like to keep the OEM downpipe, just bacause its a pain to take on and off every two years.

I'm thinking of an GTX2861R IWG. What do you think?
