(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score They have not returned my phone calls yet. I wasn't calling about squirter clearance problems though. It's a non issue in my eyes. I was calling for the exhaust valve relief problem.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Just an fyi, Dustin and I are going to measure the actual clearance before I do send mine in. We are curious about a couple things. We are going to use the Play-doh/clay method for total imprint all over the piston.

| Not Ranked : 0 score They weren't sheared off (I don't think that is what happened in Ant's car either), they stayed in place but all 4 of them became loose enough to rotate where the tube connects. I was able to pull the tubes straight out of the connecting portion without effort. I am sure they would have eventually just fallen out.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Anyone got a used head gasket laying around in good shape they can donate to an experiment. Dustin and I don't have an extra with disassembling another engine that we aren't ready to deal with yet. I'll pay for the shipping on it. Hit me up. Trying to source one locally if possible, but not sure anyone has one currently.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Did the medeling clay clearance check today. Looks like good news to me. Intake side barely made a compression in one spot of the clay. Plenty of clearance on that side. I could have used more clay, but I was scared. Measuring the compression: And the Exhaust side shows this: Again, I thought I had a big mound of clay on there, but it got the point I needed to measure for clearance. Discuss. I've read that, in general, you need to be greater on than .09 on the Exhaust side which I am and greater than .1 on the Intake which I am as well. Where I get confused is that I've also read you should have 2-2.5 the exhaust clearance that you have on the intake. I'm not sure what is ideal on our engines, but I have plenty of clearance right now and there is probably more room on the intake because the VTC is at zero as well.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Lol. The protrusion from the cylinder head edge on the exhaust side digs deeper into the clay than the exhaust valve edges. Looks about right as per my mongo raicer calcs. + Those ratios you are posting regarding exhaust valve clearance in relation to intake, where did you get them from? is that for an engine with intake VVT? I am not sure there is such a thing as an "ideal" ratio. You either have interference or you don't. Sure, when things get hot everything comes closes together but I don't think the ratio between intake valve and exhaust valve clearance needs to be 2.0 to 2.5. That would mean the valve tappet clearance on the exhaust side should be 2 to 2 1/2 times higher than the intake which it's not. The exhaust valve gets hotter than the intake valve. That's why you have a higher valve tappet clearance number on the EX side. But it's not 2 to 2 and 1/2 times as much. If you were to translate the stock tolerances into ratios it would be something like 0.2 to 0.4 times higher.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score It's old school racer math. It comes up a few times on the web when you search valve to piston clearance. Definitely not including a VVT motor. As far as what I saw, it all looked good to me and kind of reaffirmed what I thought happened with Ant's motor. I'm going to build mine as is with a few changes going forward. I've already bent the squirters the tiny bit needed to clear. I'll finish the bottom end and wait on the L19/H11 studs for the head. Hopefully that goes through soon and I can finish this project up.
