Default Just completed MS3 rebuild

Mazdaspeed rebuild was a success. Started right up. Been running about 150 miles so far. Waiting for break-in period and a tune to start really having fun.

Car was at 175k miles. Still ran ok. Kinda rough startup and idle. Smoking. Leaking oil and other things. Just wanted to clean it up like new. Not after a big build, but we did end up going with forged internals since they needed replaced anyways.

So I tried to keep a list of the cost for those interested. It cost more than I expected due to a few big ticket items we weren't expecting (Like pistons were beat and DM flywheel was too loose).

Total cost was $3,000 with forged rods, pistons and new clutch and flywheel.

If this was a straight up refresh of seals, gaskets and bearings, turbo rebuild without having to buy new internals and clutch, it would have been $1,400. And thats with $500 worth of having a shop do the head and block work.

We didn't do timing chain and VVT kit as it was already done. So that adds another $400 plus if you need that as well.

Our price list was something like this:
Crankshaft seal and complete rebuild gasket set (Rockauto Enginetech MA23K2): $200
Luk clutch and Fidanza flywheel: $650
Wiseco pistons: $550
Eagle rods: $391
Head and valve cleaning, resurfacing, guides and testing: $250
Block cleaning, honing, piston and ring filing and rod assembly: $274.13
Flange sealant for turbo: $20
Turbo CHRA cartridge Rotomaster 3yr warranty: $275
New trans. motor mount (oem style): $50
3 crankshaft friction washers: $40
Crankshaft pulley bolt: $14
King Main and rod bearings: $143
Injector seal kit: $36
Injector cleaning: $88
Spark Plugs: $30

I wouldn't say it was difficult. Tedious maybe. We took LOTS of pics during disassembly. Numbered every electrical connector with tape. Followed the service manual for reassembly.

Hardest part I would say was dealing with removal of the pulley, and then the stress of tightening it all up again correctly with those $40 washers!

I got lots of help from this forum and some kind folks on the FB group answering all my questions.

I tried to attached photos. Sorry, not sure if I did that right. Also posted in the Mazdaspeed Facebook group.
