Default The most awaited build in MSF history

Since everyone started cracking open champagne bottles and throwing parties when I bent a couple rods, I figured that I should start a official build thread. I guess people have been praying that ide finally blow and start bolting parts on, well sweet baby Jesus has heard your prayers and answered them.

First lets start with the good stuff, I am going to be running the most built motor on the planet. It will be built once and it will be done right.

I have a prepped block that I am going to install timeserts for oversize main and head studs. All bearing surfaces will be coated along with the pistons and sleeves. I may also install a main girdle plate made of 1" steel that will also tie into the balance shaft bolt holes, I am not positive on that though. I am going to run eagle rods and gen2 ms3 oem pistons that are ceramic coated and dry film coated. King bearings will replace the oem bearings. A Cosworth high flow oil pump will round out the block. EDIT: used regular arp head and mains, no time serts, CPe stg 2 88mm pistons, Pauter rods machine to accept a 22.5mm pin. No upgraded girdle for now, and I am using acl rod bearings.

The head is fully ported and flow benched, it flows 265cfm @1psi on the intake side and 200cfm @1psi on the exhaust side. It has 1mm oversize inconel exhaust valves and stock intake valves, new viton seals, new locks, oem retainers, and Cosworth springs.

I will also be running a DCR VVT and upgraded cams.

I have a set of flow benched, matched injectors along with the Toyota seals and a injector stud kit. EDIT: went with CPe seals

A gen2 valve cover and custom crankcase breather should keep the blowby in check, they will be vented to the exhaust.

The egr is completely deleted and welded closed.

I am going to chop up the oem IM and have it ported to match the head and I am going to weld a new plenum on and its going to look something like Erichs IM. It will use the Hemi tb which is a fair bit larger than stock. EDIT: hogged out the stock IM and port matched it to the head, it outflows the head stock anyway.

I will be slightly reworking my l/a system to make it purdy, cuz it looks like ass now lol.

I will also be converting to a blow through setup and a full vta bov.

My trans has been fucked for about a year so its also going to get a rebuild with upgraded shift forks and new syncros and hopefully upgraded ratios.

The tcase will be getting upgraded bearing caps and new bearings. I think I am also going to coat it inside and out to seal it so it doesnt leak anymore.

The ps pump will be swapped for the newer model 2007 p/s pump and the rack will have its bushings replaced. New hoses will also be used.

The clutch will also be replaced with a feramic full face disc, and upgraded pressure plate.

I think that is about all ill be doing, a new turbo will go on when I get the money for it. Dustin will be making a sidewinder manifold for it and it will be sitting above the trans. The turbo will be the Holset he551ve with a prototype Fleece controller. I actually picked up a gtx3071r turbo cuz im tired of the smokey stock one.

I do have a few questions if anyone knows, what is the part number for the Arp flywheel and crank bolts and who was it that had a torque plate made?

Damn Ant, you have a good memory! Yeah I was looking into it but the Darton sleeves only go to 91mm iirc which is only like 2.35l and requires a custom piston. So you have to stroke it to 100mm with the mzr 2.5l crank which makes it ~2.55l. Rumor had it that the 2.5l crank was forged, but now people are calling it a cast crank. The problem is that the 100mm crank requires an even shorter custom rod which makes the crank really too big for the rod length... long story short its too much work lol.

Yeah gen2 stock pistons, I really dont see any piston failures that arent detonation related and even those it was a long time coming.

In other news, the exhaust mani, turbo, dp, misc coolant and oil hoses, o2 sensors, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, and the bottom half of the timing cover are off.

Pulled the turbo, a/c compressor and hoses, shifter linkage, the remainder of the coolant and heater hoses, thermostat, front engine mount, so all I have left are the right and left engine mounts, axles, and driveshaft.

Anyone done a walkthrough on front axle removal? Gonna look around for one cuz I can figure it oit but I am all about short cuts.

When we did @silvapains we left the trans in and took some pulleys off the front and supprted the trans with a jack and moved the engine at all kinds of crazy angles. When I did mine I pulled the passenger axle the normal way, raised the engine a touch keeping the trans lower and slid out the driver side then popped it out. These however were both 3's, but the way I did mine should still work for you.

Not sure if that was what you were looking for.

Also I think I could have gotten mine out without removing the passenger side prior to, but it would have required a second set of hands I didn't have.

Hate to burst your bubble but you are wasting money on the Cosworth oil pump you'd be better off just doing a stock replacement. You already have a high flow oil pump. All Cosworth did was swap the internals out from the stock MS3 pump into the MZR oil pump because the MS3 naturally comes with a high flow oil pump. I can already tell you the oil pumps between the two engines are different. You'd have a hell of a time fabricating up a new oil feed tube just for the same thing you have.

whats to say when this is all said and done he will have enough flow though? i hear where youre coming from but when your going this balls deep might as well spend a little extra and get the pump, instead of finding out that you dont have enough oil and starving your fresh engine and boom.

Ive long wondered if the mzr and mzr disi oil pump internals were different. Generally when a oem engine has oil squirters the pumps flow is increased to make up the difference. If you look at the high volume oil pump pic on cosworths web page it has our part number stamped onto it so its a direct swap. I just wonder if its a high flow version of ours or are they selling ours as a high flow pump for them and it hasnt been modded in any way.

I need to email them.

Ive already used our pump with a remote filter and cooler setup so I know it has plenty of flow.

Yeah me too, however I dont think the turbo is going in with the engine anymore. They are still testing the controller so I think that I am going to wait on that to be finished.

No its still busted, I bought a new diff controller module but I havent installed it because I got it right before it went down lol. I still need to check the wiring connectors also like you said may have fixed yours.

Yeah but there are some can bus commands that we dont know and we would need a truck and some sort of logger to figure out what is going on.

well it turned out they had to replace the whole rear diff. The coupler was shoot.

So I drained the tcase today and like 1/8th of a cup of oil came out. Its almost like tar. I guess when you are getting up there in miles checking it every 30k doesnt cut it anymore. Its been about 20k since I changed fluids in it. Damn...

I was running the ford fluid in the trans and it looked newafter about 20k miles so the trans was great. Took off the SU rear motor mount for the first time after about 110k miles and it looks new, took off the TT fmm and... lmao that thing is garbage, the rubber is completely dried out and crumbling and the metal pipe in the center just fell out. Its really disappointing cuz I really liked it. Im gonna send a email to TT and see if they warranty them.

@phate It really will be out tomorrow, some local mazda guys are coming over with a engine lift. Sorry its taken so long.

The engine is out and damn for 145k miles it really looks good, the cam lobes are slightly worn but thats to be expected. The bearings looked a little worn but no contact and no particles are imbeded in them. Pulling the head off tomorrow evening so I can pull the pistons out to have a look at them.

Pulled the head off and it looks great other than the exhaust valves which are white colored and get progressively whiter as you get to cyl 1 which looks like ash. The intake valves look fine and it doesnt have much carbon buildup at all which surprised me. That cyl had to have been lean when it went.

The pistons looked good, no marks or cracks and the rings looked great and werent coked up, the tops of the pistons had some carbon but not very much. Cyl 3 had the most and it was alot less than I expected.

All the rods look straight except for cyl 1 which is all sorts of bent, so vibrating clutch pedal is definitely an indicator of a bent rod. I expected it to have worn that rod bearing but it looked fine too.

Hopefully Ill have all of the parts I need on order next week.

Edit: oh and I decided to go with carillo h beams and forged pistons. I want to crush @Erichs car

Hoping you get there... been waiting for some dyno queen competition. On a side note if the weather holds out I will be getting on the track on Friday. Wouldn't expect too much though, will be on the 460HP tune, street tires and will be my first time running an official 1/4 mile.
