Default Sho's 2007 MS3 project

Picked up a 2007 Sunlight Silver MS3 GT August 3rd, 2012 after putting 217k miles on my '98 Saturn SL.
I got the MS3 with 25,314 miles on it after spending months searching for the right deal.



I'll be updating this thread as I do things with the car, and hopefully it'll be on the road for a long time!

Also a big shout out to NATOR OH, the guys here have helped me a ton with this car, and I couldn't be more grateful for their help!

Everything connected and TMIC ducting removed from hood


Jakey and V trimming my bumper as the piping was hitting some portions and not allowing the bumper to go back on the car

Crazy routing for the piping


Hot and cold pipes so close, we took a silicone coupler and cut it and taped it to the hot pipe to keep it from rubbing on the cold pip/bpv flange

Some small updates:

Sourced a new crank from my buddy @robry; so I don't have to mess with getting the one I have with a spun bearing machined.

Need to get a head as well, then the short block will be off to the machine shop for honing and getting the top of the block and bottom of the head resurfaced. Once that's done, I'll be ordering Manley H-Beams, cp-e stage 2 pistons, and all the new gaskets and bolts and whatnot.

Picked up some cp-e safeseals as well


Also picked up a wrinkle black timing cover and valve cover from my good friend @Lewis7789; which will be going on the built motor. He did a fantastic job on these!


Now to decide...what turbo and manifold I want/can afford....

How are your gauges holding up?

My Prosport oil pressure gauge just took a dump this week, and there are many stories of issues with the sender units.

None of them are working right now. I had to disconnect the oil temp and pressure senders and remove the sammich plate, as my sammich plate needs replaced. And the sender for the boost gauge took a shit. I've had the senders go out on all 3 gauges multiple time though.

Updates:

Was going to send the block off to the machine shop and order rods and gaskets and all that shit next week....buuuutt, I hit a Fucking deer today on my way over to @Realgib3; place to pick up some race car parts.
So that $ will be going to pay my deductible. Here's some pics (I got really lucky. Big ass buck, jumped out from my left, and landed its feet on my hood and headlight and not through my windshield)

Update time:
- Got the lower DP and oil lines from @Realgib3;
-Got an EBCS from @HawkeyeGeoff;
-5858 journal bearing came in today.
-need to pick up 3bar map and pnp harness from @pmartz16;
-waiting on a 2.5"-2.5" coupler for the turbo to hot pipe on the FMIC, and then it's ready to install on the stock block til I get the built motor done. Just need to find a free weekend to install everything.

Power will be kept down while still on the stock block, but I'm sure it'll be enough to have some fun with til the built motor is together!

Likewise, man. I've been itching for a bit more power lately and a conservative tune in a 3/9 mix of corn should hold me over til the built motor is done.

In other news, grabbed an OCC today as well from Patrick. So the only other thing left to acquire are the oil fittings for the turbo so I can connect the lines and I'm ready to go. Just need to find a free weekend between school and work.

With the hotchkis sway bars, the ride can be a bit harsh...otherwise good. I wish i wouldve got coilovers with adjustable damping though.

Absolutely LOVE the way the engine bay turned out! Thanks again to Evan #1 for hooking me up with the wrinkle black valve cover, and to Patrick for doing the previously ugly white intake manifold in wrinkle black as well.

Don't mind the dirty battery/tray, intake, and random walnut media all over. It shall be cleaned and detailed after winter ends.

Update time:

This setup flows incredibly well. So well in fact; that on a 9psi wastegate spring, and 0% Wastegate Duty Cycle, I am hitting 24psi. So standard hybrid tuning is out the window, and @Realgib3; is going to have to control boost with the throttle plate and load tuning. I feel bad that it's gonna be a pain in the ass the tune, so I'll be supplying Mark with substantial quantities of craft beer to keep him sane!

90% sure the issue is the wastegate at this point. Should be able confirm soon, as I'm picking up my friends pw46 from him tomorrow to test on my car; which should do the trick now that I have a working EBCS.

In anticipation of the WG being the culprit, I've ordered a new diaphragm/piston assembly from PTE for my Pw46 tonight.


I'll be rebuilding that sucker as soon as it comes in and the issue is confirmed. Then it's time to make a lil powa!

Moar Update:

Borrowed Jake's EWG and that solved the crazy overboost issue. Got my replacement Diaphragm and Valve assembly from PTE yesterday, and will be rebuilding it tonight after class.

Also now that the EWG thats on the car is working, got a new map from @Realgib3; yesterday and took a log on the way to class today. the car is doing what he's telling to do for once, so that's a relief.
Here's a vdyno to show what the car is making on very conservative timing and low boost until higher RPM. Can't wait til she's dialed in!

New Coilovers and Endlinks went in on Friday, thanks to @pmartz16; for the help. Car rides awesome, just need to lower the front a little bit more.

Next up is the 1950RV and a little touching up of the tune with @Realgib3;

Soooo, the car was supposed to be on the dyno at 8am this morning. Last night while finishing up the tune with @Realgib3; on the street, I got this (had to let off early because of traffic)

Then as I came back to take a log in the same spot, the 6 puck decided that the 48k rough miles I put on it was enough and this happened

Now it just slips any time I go WOT.

So tomorrow, I'll be putting another clutch in with some help from Mark. overnighted a new throw out bearing and picked up some MT90 from summit racing.



All I can say, is thank goodness it didn't happen on the way down to or at ENM

Pulled the 6 puck on Sunday. The clutch itself still had life on it after 50k or so miles, which surprised me. The throw out bearing and the pressure plate were toast however. Back to a stock clutch setup as this motor will never see enough tq to warrant another 6 puck (or similar), and I have no plans to run slicks or anything.

Sweet ride man! This is an inspirational thread to say the least.

I do have a question: did you ever get your gauges working again? I know that in the earlier post you stated that you removed the sammich plate. Only reason why I ask is because I am looking to get a plate and I don't know if I should buy glowshift or prosport?
