So the story goes, once upon a time, a sailor and his buddy had too much time on their hands to discuss life, car parts, and a desire to go fast. What started as a joke between them quickly spiraled out of control and became very real. Suspension and brake work on the sailors car became porting manifolds, then tearing down blown blocks, and ended with building a motor.

Two weeks ago I picked up freshly machined and cleaned bare block and head from my machinist. I spent hours that weekend assembling the head and block by hand myself. From empty block and head it grew into a full long block. Then last week the sailor returned and over the weekend, the freshly built motor was swapped in.

Nothing is special about the build itself. No revolutionary ideas or work done at this point, that's later down the road. Build diaries here and discussions with knowledgeable friends here lead me to the basic forged build that has been done many times.

Giant thanks to the vendors who helped me acquire what was needed for this project along the way. Alan at @EdgeAutosport.com; was awesome along the way with this and other projects I had going on. @Matt@DamondMotorsports; and @Farhan@DM; hooked me up with all kinds of goodies to test along the way and in the coming season. @Matt@HTP; also hooked me up with some much needed HTP sexiness for the project.

More importantly, a huge thank you to those who helped with the swap itself. Assembling alone was relaxing and therapeutic, but swapping this shit in on my own would have taken forever and been very daunting. @xfeejayx;, my brother was there for every minute of the swap pushing me along. @Big Mike; for his wrench time and kitty litter bitch duties. @Faez0rbeamz; cleaned up the awesome RTV work on my exhaust and kept food and beer flowing. @silvapain; stopped by on the last night to look things over. @ms3blackmica; for tuning this thing towards my goals in the coming month or so as well as advice along the way.

Most importantly, words can not express my appreciation for the sailor himself, @Micha;. Without him, none of this would have happened. He kept me sane along the way, well, at least as sane as building a forged motor to replace a perfectly good running one can be. Offered tons of help and guidance along the way as well. His experience swapping motors gave us the confidence and guidance to get the project done incredibly smoothly.

I'll update this thread with progress and any issues that may arise going forward. Feel free to ask any questions.

Expect big things from Sluntworks Speedshop to come.

No word on that yet. At the moment, it's not a real thing, yet. Plus we do not pay vendor fees to MSF, yet. So probably best not to discuss here. You have my phone number.

Those lessons suck to learn but they will certainly stick with you.

Got valve lash sorted out.

Cold comp test is 180 across the board.

Now the fun begins.

I might have gone at least half chub when #1 went 180. It might have rubbed your bumper. You might need a carwash.

Nope.

Ran into a bit of a hiccup.

The thing-a-majig that controls spraying liquid stuff into things decided not to work correctly. After extensive redneck engineered testing, it's been sent back to a redneck in GA. to test further and hopefully replace and send back this week.

Then maybe I can be fast.

Lol, welcome to the party guy!

A tad bit north of 500hp. It's been around that number since it got fully tuned, a bit higher north lately with new developments. The ATP hotside is limiting me at this point.

Still running strong, 15k miles on the motor now.
