Default JgamB's build it before you blow it thread

I've tried to be proactive with my mods and careful with my mod path, and so far so good.

Selling the K04 while it was still healthy was a nice refund on my BNR S3. Now I hope to continue the trend with my still strong OEM engine, taking advantage of seasonal prices, and also aware that the 25.5psi and 7.2K RPM I run the car at isn't exactly lending itself to tremendous longevity.

And I just want more power.

Ebtec in Marietta, GA will be performing the build - Manley Platinums, Manley H-beams, L19s, and possibly head work. I have also specified I want the balance shaft retained - at least that way when you call me a vagina, I'll be able to hear you. I've heard great things about Ebtec / Chris Murphy, and being ~3.5hrs away means I can eliminate shipping costs.

I've also opted for an ACT 6-puck / street lite combo. I waffled over SB and ACT, and found the jury to still be out on both, but with the more recently installed ACTs (as of ~2 years) to be faring much better than the old friction disks with 5-10K mile horror stories.

The turbo and manifold(s) are still up in the air, but those will get sorted soon. Regardless of potential, I plan to aim for ~500whp/420wtq and meth alt fueling only. Bowl work might seem like overkill for the modest goal, but I'd rather free up some peak power and perhaps use a more responsive turbo to get there.

Other stuff includes Freektune 3.5" intake with multiple couplings - one for the S3 for now and one for what is likely to come later, CS / Tokay injector seals, some tweaks to my meth setup, and other stuff I might show you later.

The journey starts in the morning.

This is a bent rod long block I picked up from @ms6mil; several months back. My car is still running like a top. I'm hoping down time is limited to a weekend swap.

Stock valve train - I don't intend to rev out past 7.5K and don't anticipate any float issues. The intent is medium sized / 500whp turbo and overkill on the intake mani / head for some smooth torque application and easy breathing peak flow, very linear for the sake of traction.

It's fine with stock valvetrain. We see 7000+ at nearly every autocross, and 7500 isn't uncommon (that's where my limiter is set). We've ridden the limiter at 7500 rpm for seconds at a time, no problems whatsoever.

When I do a refresh, I'll check spring rates of all the valve springs and replace any that are low or collapsed. It's been over 2 years, though, and haven't had a single issue.

I don't see much difference, it's still 7500 rpm, you'll just be at a higher speed. Like I said, we've ridden the limiter at 7500 for seconds at a time without issue.

What tire height? I run 235/40/18s and my current map is set for 7.2K RPM and good for 118 in the 1/4, maybe 119 before it actually cuts.

I have great faith in their skills, and they've gotten the stamp of approval from quite a few people I respect.

Edit: also pro tip..bought one of these in hopes of it working. Worked out great. Use it to lock the flywheel while you torque the bolts. After using an impact and just saying Fuck it on my car.....I wanted to do the next guys right.

Needed some new buckets for proper valve lash, but she's just about done. Yes, that's my balance shaft staring at you. I'm really trying to keep this a DD friendly racecar.



I also picked up a Boost Junkyz EWG mani, ordered the HTP meth tank, and some more various stuff to make the go faster project a bit tidier.

Dude. I paid 1790 shipped for mine. With a tial hotside. They are still doing the name your price thing. They literally knocked 600 off of my turblowwww. Thing will make damn close to what the 35R made (63 lb/min vs 61 lb/min) they are just beast turbos man.

I'm on the Atwater Cherry Stout ATM. Ganna have to have a natty @ ENM if you're coming out there

Yes. I will be making a thread about the whole ordeal as well as what I get out of it. I should have no problem maxing the thing out with the type of fueling I have, so we should be able to see what this little big bastard can really do.
