Behind the scenes, good progress has been made, although I have run into one snag. Bilstein North Carolina reached out to me and let me know that my rear struts would not physically fit on their dyno, therefore the rears are on their way to California right now and the fronts are on their way to me. One of my front dampers is starting to go bad (no oil explosion yet, but believe me, I've killed enough dampers to know when something's wrong), so I'm going to install the front springs/dampers, and rear springs, when the fronts arrive. Write-up to follow.

I received my speed daddy exhaust. I have to say it is obvious that this is a cheap exhaust.

Why, you ask? Doesn't the piping look decent? Actually yes, it does. It certainly looks like real stainless and most of the welds look pretty good, but there's one interesting thing...let me show you a pic down the bore of the front of the mid-pipe....

All of the resonators in this exhaust are fake. That's right, this is a straight piped exhaust with cans welded around it designed to look like resonators. That explains why they're so damn loud. The vibrant ultra quiet resonator by itself probably weighs more than the entire axleback section.

Shots of the dynomax VT with its valve:

Yesterday I tapped my cold pipes. Unfortunately the Gen1 one (the one I'm going to sell) was a lot easier to tap and came out better than the one I'm planning on using. Oh well.

The wheels are in town, I just have to go pick them up at UPS and then drive them up to Dizzy Turbo's dealership to get them mounted.

Finally, I received this e-mail today from Mint.com and LOL'd

Once the HTP meth tank gets here, I will literally be done buying everything I need. It's just a matter of getting the exhaust welded (I contacted two shops who are willing to help me out and will contact a 3rd tomorrow), and waiting for Bilstein to finish my dampers. So, things are finally taking shape.

Unfortunately, I really don't have a good way of recording the exhaust to get a before and after. Gopros just don't handle wind noise well and any time I open my window, the audio is a disaster.

Honestly, I am very happy with the way the car sounds right now, other than, it is a touch loud for my taste. The Pu CBE with the CP-E downpipe and the BNR is definitely a really solid combo. In terms of sound quality I think it is probably one of the best exhausts I've heard with not a touch of "raspiness" to it at all. When I'm next to a concrete barrier or another car with the window down and step on it, I can't help but smile. One of my locals has a stock upper DP, test pipe, resonator delete, and K04, and his car is not only way quieter than mine but overall just doesn't sound as good.

We can try to use my camera and see what quality it produces..no promises it'll be any better or worse than your GoPro but I'm always down to clown around with my camera in someone else's car

I had thought there was just one kit from GC for our car and it's for either stock or Koni struts, i.e. not monotubes like the Bilsteins. And yeah grinding off the spring perch is a requirement, that was the one nice thing about the group buy I got in on, they did that for us.

With my GC kit I had a similar situation just with the rear adjusters rather than front and it actually was because they goofed up the machining, but the hole only needed to get reamed out a little bit to fit the bolt that mounts it to the sub-frame. In your case I wouldn't recommend even attempting a DIY job on it, that needs to be a pretty precise and snug fit.

Yeah, I remember in the group buy thread, it was buried in there about them not working with Bilsteins.

GB: GROUND CONTROL + KONI SPORT Coilovers for Mazdaspeed 3!

Did you take measurements of the clearance between the shock body and ID of the sleeve? Sure you can't machine out the top? Looks like you might be able to and it will slide down the shock body.

Concerning the spring perch, looks just like the konis in terms of how its cut off For the other version of the coilover sleeve.

Can't believe it's taken me this long to check out your thread. Good stuff John. Don't have much helpful to add but if you want better audio out of the GOPRO, you just need to rubber band something fuzzy over the microphone hole. They make off the shelf products for just that purpose (see link below).

I've had some decent success MacGyvering something like that for my Countour Roam camera when I had it on my motorcycle. Let's throw something together with my suction cup mount and get some clips

KingMa Artificial Fur Microphone Windscreen for GoPro Hero 3 Hero 3+ Hero 4 3257431 2016 ? $3.99
