Default Mica low budget Build

I am starting this thread 2 months after buying the car. I will slowly update with everything I've done to the car so far and try to stay on top of updates. This is just for fun, but I hope some people can benefit. I plan on keeping this car till I cannot drive it anymore. I love this car, how much space it has and the power from the factory.

Performance/Maintenance done by a shop:
1. Coolant flush using Mazda's high quality coolant
2. Serpentine belt replace

Performance/Maintenance done by me:
1. NGK (3787) ILTR6A-8G Laser Iridium Spark Plugs. I gapped them at 0.028in.
2. Pennzoil Platinum 5W-40 oil change using the Ford Motorcraft FL-400 oil filter (6qts)
3. Muffler Delete (actually sounds suprisingly good for a turbo engine)

Appearance Modifications done by me:
1. 22" Hoonigan sticker on the rear windshield
2. Red LED Interior map lights
3. Wired LED strips to the front driver and passenger footwells. I wired them to turn on when the car is started.
4. Red LED fog lights
5. Red stitched "Mazdaspeed" floor mats
6. Rubber weather cargo mat

Convenience:
1. Wired aux and USB charging cable through the dashboard to a magnetic phone mount on the window. Makes music a lot easier and quicker to use, especially since bluetooth doesn't have great sound quality.

Enjoy the photos! What do you think? I took all the photos and am willing to do car shoots for people who are interested in the Albuquerque, NM area.

Red fog lights...illegal in pretty much every state. And not that I usually care but when it comes to safety of other drivers I do.

Lists hoonigan sticker as a mod. Oh boy

I'm not seeing anything "built" about this whatsoever (more like "rice, rice, baby"). Moreover, you're absolutely in violation of the law. Only emergency vehicles are allowed to have forward-facing red lights, and that's for obvious reasons. You're putting other road users at risk.

I personally like the contrasting red/black colors. Also, the understaffed law enforcement of Albuquerque, NM has more important things to worry about than red fog lights. I keep them turned off most of the time anyway.

"Appearance Modification" Oh boy!

whether you get a ticket or not is irrelevant to the law.

And like I said I don't normally care. But red is specifically designated as tail lights/brake lights and for emergency use on the front of vehicles. Drivers are trained (formally and through experience) to recognize this. Red coming at them is not good and signals stopping which can be a major hazard in the right scenario.

That, I believe, should be precedent over your opinion of contrasting colors. I think your interior LEDs are stupid...but I don't think they're a safety hazard

Well, after owning the car for 7 months now, a lot has changed and happened. I am now at 65,555 miles, up from 54k when buying it.

2. Resonator delete
3. New black tips

Performance/Maintenance done by me:

3. Corksport SRI+TIP
4. Ebay Testpipe
5. JBR 80a RMM
6. Rotella T6 5w-40 oil change using Ford Motorcraft FL-400 oil filter (6qts)

Appearance Modifications done by me:
1. Rally Armor mud flaps (RED)
2. 26" Hoonigan sticker on the rear windshield
3. LED rear reflectors soldered to the parking lights and brake lights
4. Painted taillights and fog lights with red VHT Niteshade

Interior lights got me excited when I was 17 years old in high school, that shit is rice as fuck. The car has potential but that fucking sticker and red fogs...fuck...

Definitely earns you a bowl of rice.

Nice that you are getting some power mods. Get an e85 tune if you got corn by you.

Makes sense, I'm 18 after all. Gimme that rice...YUM!!!

I'd get an e85 tune if I didn't have to drive 30min to get the fuel for it.

There still remains a distinction between rice and the endangering of others.

His Hoonigan sticker grew from 22" to 26" on the REAR windshield. Cuz #fwddriftinreverse

Stuff your rice in your red fog lights. We're a performance focused group. Try mazdas 247 or one of those other mazda forums. You'll be a God with your clay bars and led's. #parkhard

Here we are another 8 or so months later and I figured I should update this with all of the mods/upgrades I've done to the car since my last post. The car has about 74k on it.

Performance/Maintenance done by a shop:
1. Corksport brake pads and rotor turn
2. New battery
3. Headlight restoration
4. Alignment
5. Purple Drank retune and e85 tune in progress

Performance/Maintenance done by me:
1. Corksport long (catted) downpipe
2. New upstream and downstream o2 sensors
3. Damond Motorsports short shifter plate
4. H&R lowering springs
5. OZ Ultraleggera HLT wheels (color matched to the front grille)
6. Escort Passport 8500 X50 radar detector with fuse tap
7. Turbosmart Dual Port BOV (Running 50/50)
8. Hella Horns

Appearance Modifications done by me:
1. Red Halo rings in foglight housings
2. 5% ceramic tint all around with a 50% windshield tint
3. Corksport LED dome lighting kit

Here are some photos that I've taken of my car in the past few months and a picture or everything disassembled for the downpipe installation.

You should sell the speed and get a VW. Based on only this "build" thread you would fit in perfectly with that crowd.

Source: sold my speed3 for an R and see this kind of build thread daily.

Those red fogs will get someone killed. Seriously. They suggest the need to run off the road or slam on the brakes to avoid a head on collision with a car going the wrong way in the wrong lane and an impending head on collision. Getting a ticket is one thing. Getting someone killed is quite another. Ditch the red in front right now.

And when did Hella horns become a performance mod? Most 18 wheelers have smaller mud flaps. And red mud flaps almost dragging the ground? What's with that? Ricer aero effect or something more personal? Do you wear red panties, too?

What, no mention of them also being uneven in the rear? Why is the passenger side flap higher than driver?

Don't let these guys get you down OP, keep going, build looks great. I will say however the Hoonigan sticker is not my taste but you fs could have done worse lol. Who am I (and these other guys) to tell you what to do with your car

The key to happiness is owning a car ridiculously slower than your 'fast' car.

2005 Mazda 3 SP23: mods include rusty quarter panels and grinding 3rd gear. It does have a fusion motor, so I guess that's a mod too.

He can do whatever he wants. But if he posts up a build post with nothing but exterior enhancements hell yes we're going to flame his ass.

This forum is about performance. If you want attention for how cool your whip looks, or some gay ass picture of you and your buddy palming your cars asses like OP, then migrate on over to social media. They will love you.

Op if you spend money for things that aren't making your car faster, keep it for yourself.
We don't want to read about the tires scratching your fenders.
We don't care about the stickers you put on your windows.

To be clear:
oil changes and normal parts replacement also made by peoples driving corolla aren't ''mods'' or part of a build....
A lot of peoples wash and wax their cars or get it done and even peoples driving hybrids don't bother other peoples when they do it...

Here is a suggestion of your build list for this forum to be space efficient:

Performance/Maintenance done by a shop:
1. Purple Drank retune and e85 tune in progress

done by me:
1. Corksport long (catted) downpipe
2. Damond Motorsports short shifter plate
3. Corksport HPFP internals
4. Corksport SRI+TIP
5. Ebay Testpipe
6. JBR 80a RMM

Preciate the support. Haven't gotten much of it from this page as you can probably see I've thought long and hard about removing the Hoonigan sticker but keep it up as a remembrance of a friend with a 2.5 Mazda 3 who had the same sticker.
