Default Bought a speed6 with a tune

Hey all. I bought a ms6 a couple months ago, and I've been enjoying the hell out of it. I was told when I bought the car that it had a tune on it, but the guy I bought it from didn't know what kind as it was the previous owner before him who tuned the car. After doing a little more research I think my car may actually have a 50/50 e85 tune on it, but I'm not actually sure. Is there any way to find out without having an AP?

A secondary question I would have is would I have any issues just running 93 through it if it does indeed have this e85 tune?

If there is actually a 50/50 E85 tune on it, you will have major problems due to the fact that when using E85, the timing is increased to get more power. Not sure how you would actually tell if there's a tune on it unless you bought an AP and tried to marry it to your car. But I would not go WOT if I were you until you knew for sure.

I'm pretty sure you would be running insanely rich all the time if you had a 50/50 e85 tune. The stoichiometric rate of ethanol is like 9ish to 1 and gasoline is 14.7 to 1. So way more gasoline then is needed would be injected into the cylinder.

I am definitely running rich. That much I know.

The reason I suspected it was a 50/50 was because I think I found my car's previous owner on this site, and he listed it as one of the mods on the car. I haven't been able to get in contact with him yet though to find out if it really is my car's old owner.

I've been running 93 for 2 months now with no issues in timing(I don't think) so maybe it isn't tuned to e85, but I'd like to be sure.

Well I guess I should say that I'm assuming it is just by the smell, and gas mileage. I haven't checked plugs or anything yet.

Get an AP asap, the car is a ticking bomb without knowing exactly what you have. Post some car pictures, if the PO was a member here, someone will probably recognize the car.

I'll see if I can't pull them out and check this weekend. I was planning on getting an AP, but probably not soon. I was trying to cool down my spending after the car purchase...

Ah......that is my bad man. There are often posts about aftermarket "diffusers". Often brownies. That was my assumption. You should specify in there the part you are looking for with pictures. Someone will know the part #.

Thanks man. I may end up putting that off until later now. They don't look too bad, but just cracked at the bottom of both exhaust holes. Maybe I'll just end up doing my own body work to clean em up some once the weather starts warming back up.

I know the exact part you're talking about. It ends up cracked on almost every 6. @Micha; or @xfeejayx; may remember the part number. Check the brackets for the tailpipe too and make sure they're intact.

About the tune. You need a way to monitor things at least. Preferably, get an AP asap and get logs to see what is going on there. If the PO had an AP and tune, when you talk to him, try to buy it off of him.

Becoming a vip here was always the plan. I'll likely wait for a response from the guy I think is the previous owner though. I do want to buy an AP but if it is necessary yet then I'd like to save my money a bit longer yet. Again, thanks so much for helping the new guy out.

The AP should have come with the car, hopefully the seller overlooked this. A married AP is useless to the seller, unless the guy is a douche and sold it to some unsuspecting soul.

If you are indeed running a 50/50 tune on pump gas, it should be close to 20% rich, in which case it should be popping a check engine light as well as damn near smoking and bucking and whatnot when you try to give it the go pedal.

More than likely, it is running a stock tune, but in that case, it's running rich because of the aftermarket intake.

Also, these cars tend to reek of fuel anyways, especially on the stock tune; though you shouldn't discount the possibility of a fuel leak if the engine bay smells of gas.

Im sure your on a stock tune but the car should have been sold with the AP thou with CPE SRI I think its same as OEM diameter where the MAF is.
For OEM rear "bumper gaurds" I paid $220/side. Now $225 so $463.55 with $13 shipping at mazda-parts.com which is the cheapest place to buy them. I did insurance claim so they were free.

I have often wondered why our cars have this unique "scent" to the exhaust...especially pronounced at idle. One thing I have thought of is that maybe it's caused by the flow balance on the stock IM.

No way OP has a 50/50 tune on his car...it would be DTC after DTC followed by ZZB...

Probably not ZZB, because corn. You'd have to be way, way out of fueling range to pop on full corn. I ran a pass at 24 psi (~400 whp worth of air) and 14:1 AFR and it cost me a ringland on *one* cylinder.

If no AP with the car, it's probably not tuned.

Unless it's with one of the older tuners, in which case you better get this sorted out ASAP.

If its unflashed at least its a 93 map, and not an E85 map with 19* of timing. lol

If he cant afford a AP right now get a V-Link for $30 and a cell app for his phone so he can check on fuel pressure,temps & timing for now.
